Gameplay Constantly Changing

I am so tired of having to relearn how to play this game anytime they do a server update. The gameplay changes so drastically every single time.

What do you think changed a lot? I haven't found I needed to re-learn the game on the whole. Maybe something becomes a little less effective but wholesale re-learning hasn't been a thing for me.

I'm not sure it's in his head. From what I've experienced, there are huge shifts in the gameplay, but I think it's just part of the game, not necessarily due to any particular update. It's one of the things I love about this game. I can play one game that's a defensive struggle, the next is a barn burner, the next game I can't connect on a single deep pass and have to work underneath or on the ground. I just see a lot of variation from game to game, and I love it. The original poster might see something completely different, and maybe I just have rose colored glasses, but I enjoy not winning every game playing the same style.

I suspect the game play difficulty setting is somewhat dynamic. The Varsity setting seems to range between Freshman and All American rather than being a fixed point between the two. My current Dynasty is set to Varsity. I have had a few games that were very easy and I went to the options and thought, when did I set this to Freshman (it is readonly when playing)? After cleaning the CPU's clock in the game, I went to my Dynasty settings to reset it and it was already Varsity... but I just completed a game where it told me I was playing a Freshman level game. While the in game Option has never said I was playing All American when I have checked, I was either having a very bad day or it was Varsity at nearly the All American level.

This is just how matchups work. With how many ratings are at play and with how they all interact with one another, games are going to play out in varying ways. You can have a really well rated OL, but they may all be slightly lacking in their power blocking ratings. Most weeks this won't be an issue and they'll play well. Then, one week, you can play a team that's rated overall worse than you, but their DL is full of guys with high rated power moves and they're able to slow your OL down a bit and the game is a grind.

If you don't dig into the ratings, you may think the game is playing differently, EA is out to get you, it's scripted, etc, but the reality is that they simply matchup well against you.

On top of that, composure plays a pretty big role in this game and that mechanic seems to often be forgotten about by the community. If you have a QB with low composure they can start missing easy throws, fumbling more often when getting hit and all that can snowball to composure dropping more or staying low leading to them playing poorly all game.

If a DB has low composure he may start blowing coverage and thus his composure will stay low and that can snowball into a pretty bad game for them and the secondary as a whole. One CB has low composure, misplays his assignment, that leads to an explosive TD, the entire defense loses composure from that play, they come out, play worse due to it, allow more big plays/scores, composure drops further, bam, your good defense is suddenly allowing 30+ that game.

I don't think any mechanics in the game have changed majorly over the last couple updates. EA has fixed some areas of the game like pass blocking and pass coverage with some updates earlier in the cycle, but there's not been any significant gameplay changes outside of those tuning changes.

I would recommend people start paying more attention to their team's composure levels, especially in game where it feels like things are stacked against you. You might be surprised at how big a role composure can play in many games and how you will need to manage it to get things back on track.

QB has low composure and can't hit a 10 yard dig route that is wide open? Call a WR screen or two to get him back into rhythm. Call a PA roll out and hit the easy flat route if it is there. If it isn't pick up 5 with your feet and get out of bounds.

Put together a handful of easy plays together for your QB and you can get his composure to bounce back and he can get back to playing more like you expect.

Re: Gameplay Constantly Changing

Don’t we want the game to be drastically different? When I play different teams, I expect them to play differently. The biggest issue for years with Madden was that every team plays the same. Why would teams playing differently be a bad thing?

It would certainly be a bummer if every college team played the same.
