How do you recover an onside kick as the receiving team?

There are multiple onside kick glitches. I know EA is gonna EA, but surely there is a simple way to just pick up the dang ball.

Does coming out in a normal KR work so the players are further back? Or is prayer the only hope?

I don't know if this is the correct answer, but I seem to have luck holding the L2 trigger when there's a loose ball (like a fumble on a bad option pitch), otherwise my players run right past it without even picking it up.

L2 seems like the magical button that EA hasn't told anyone about for a lot of things.

Part of the issue is also that the balls stops in a spot where it's a 50-50 battle even getting to it first.
