Coverage Shells ?

Has anyone seen if this will affect User vs CPU or if it’s really just for a user v user.

Will the CPU QB Awareness effect if they get fooled or not. Also will the CPU use these shells as well.

How do you know when to use them or is it just when you feel like trying to bait an opponent? What is the disadvantage?

Re: Coverage Shells ?

All good questions. I thought they said in the gameplay blog that all options the user has will be utilized by the CPU as well. Could have been referring to something else though.

I hope they're available in more formations than what is available in M25. At least in the beta they're pretty limited. Also no way to select them in the play call menu if you're using coach suggestions which is a huge L.

Re: Coverage Shells ?

CPU will use them as well per the gameplay blog.

I think Mills is one of a few that has said the CPU QB's are impacted by the shells and can be fooled by them, but no official word on that from EA. I will say that some of the interceptions I've forced using them in the Madden beta seem to indicate they fooled the CPU QB given where they went with the ball made perfect sense given the coverage I showed vs what we actually rotated into to. Could have been coincidences, though.

Disadvantages are guys can be a bit out of position depending on what you're showing vs what you're actually running. For example, showing Cover 0 but actually being in a zone coverage and the offense lines up in an unbalanced look can lead to your guys being on the complete wrong side of the field. Also, the gameplay blog said that if a player has low composure they have a chance to line up wrong in the coverage shell which I assume either has them out of position and/or has them tipping the coverage if not running the wrong coverage. It wasn't 100% clear on what all they'd mess up.

Re: Coverage Shells ?

Yo, wassup guys!

So bout them coverage shells in EA Sports College Football and NCAA Football. I ain't seen nothing bout if it's gonna mess with User vs CPU or just user v user. Like, will the CPU QB get fooled or nah? And will the AI use these shells too? That'd be dope.Yo, wassup guys!

As for when to use em, I guess it's just when you wanna trick your opponent, ya feel me? But there's gotta be some downside, right? Maybe leaves you open somewhere else? Idk man, just spitballin here. Anyone got more info on this?

Regards, David :-)

Re: Coverage Shells ?

On a related note (to whether or not they’d work against the CPU), do next gen CPU defenses know your play call? The last football game I played was NCAA14 and in that game the defense very obviously knew your play call. i.e. you come put with 4 wide and a run play and the defense has a stacked box. You audible to a pass and they empty the box. You audible to another pass play and the box stays empty. You audible to a run play and they stack the box. That never bothered me as I’m all for whatever it takes to make the CPU competitive.

I’m just curious if next gen Madden games still do this, or have they figured out how to make the defense challenging without them knowing your play call. The relevance being that if they still know your play call, then I don’t see using coverage shells against their offense being effective since they’ll know you’re playing cover 3 and not the cover 2 you’re showing.

In recent Maddens on All Madden, no. The opposite problem exists now to where you'll come out in an obvious run look on 3rd and 2 and the defense is sitting here in a nickle or dime look with a light box and and an alignment daring you to run it up the middle.

Been an issue for awhile now in Madden where the CPU seemingly calls plays at random and it leads to them conceding a lot of conversions on downs like that.

That's interesting. I use coach mode and my QB is run by CPU - I just call the plays. If the CPU QB can be fooled by shells I'm guessing a good CPU QB can also recognize the shells.

This game is so much deeper than 14 that it's not even close. I just wonder it has coach mode so I can play it.

Re: Coverage Shells ?

This is one of the gameplay features that I am most excited about and really hoping works the way it should. Hopefully CPU offenses/QBs are either fooled by these shells or can see through them, depending on their mental abilities, etc.

I want to run a defense similar to what Dantonio did when at Michigan State. With at least these different looks/coverages that can all be run out of a cover-4 shell.

Cover-4 Quarters

Cover-4 Palms

Cover-6

Cover-3 Buzz

Cover-1 Robber

and a variety of 3-deep zone blitzes
