EBANKS AND PROBY COME UP BIG IN WVU'S VICTORY OVER ELON

AP- West Virginia Mountaineer Fans expected big things from star freshman Devin Ebanks, just not this soon. In his first collegian game, Ebanks had 13 points and grabbed 10 boards, posting his first double double of the year.

"It Feels Great" Ebanks told a reporter after the game. "It Feels like I am still in High School when I come onto this court and play."

Ebanks wasn't the only to come up big in the season openor. Reserve Forward Dee Proby, who came into the game after Freshman Kevin Jones injured his foot mid-way through the 1st Half, was tied for the leading scorer, scoring fifteen points and grabbing eight rebounds. Jones is still expected to start against Longwood on the 20th.

"I just went out there and played ball" Proby told a reporter. "I Finally got a chance to show what I am capable of and it feels great."

The offense is not the only thing that was outstanding for the Mountaineers. The defense was also spectacular, causing 23 turnovers. During the Post-Game Press Conferance, Coach Bob Huggins praised the defense his team played throughout, and hopes they can keep it up the entire season.

The 11th Ranked Mountaineers play the Longwood Lancers in five days on November Twentieth.

PROBY SCORES 31 IN DISMANTLING OF LONGWOOD

AP- The game was out of hand before the first half even ended. Within the first four minutes, West Virginia jumped out to a 20-1 lead and never looked back. West Virginia didn't even play their starters the entire second half, and still put up 73 points. By the end of the first half, West Virginia had a comfortable lead of 33, and ended up winning by a record setting margin of 80 points. Dee Proby once again came off the bench and provided a career night, scoring 31 points and grabbing thirteen rebounds, both career highs.

"This is something straight out of a video game" Proby told a reporter during the post-game press conference. "This is something you don't see everyday."

Devin Ebanks once again gave out a great game, scoring 15 points and grabbing five rebounds, all in the first half. The Reserves took over in the second half, and almost all of them had career nights aswell. Jonnie West, the son of legendary Jerry West scored 13 points and dished out four assists. Reserve guard Will Thomas scored 11 points and Reserve Forward John Flowers scored 10.

The Sixth Ranked Mountaineers take on the Deleware State Hornets on the Twenty Fifth.

PROBY INJURED AS MOUNTAINEERS PULL AWAY IN SECOND HALF

AP-The Mountaineers won their third straight game last night, but it was not without a loss. Junior Dee Proby, who has shown huge improvements in his game this year, pulled his hamstring and is expected to be out for up to two weeks.

"It is going to be a tough two weeks" said Head Coach Bob Huggins in his post game news conference. Dee is a tough guy, so I know he will come back better than ever."

The Hornets of Deleware State looked to be up to an upset over the fifth ranked Mountaineers, as they were only down six at the break. However, the Mountaineers opened up the second half on a 15-0 run, which dashed the Hornets hopes of an upset.

The West Virginia Mountaineers play there first big test of the season on the Twenty Eighth, when they take on the Iowa Hawkeyes of the Big 10.
