Look Who the Winds Blew In: An Iowa State Cyclones Dynasty
 CYCLONES MIRACULOUSLY GET THEIR MAN Ames, IA- With little notice given to the general public and media outlets alike, Coach Mitchell leaves Lexington and embarks on arguably his toughest task yet. Coach Mitchell started his coaching career on the high plains of Laramie Wyoming where he coached for 7 seasons. In that time he won 70 games, 3 conference titles, and 1 national championship. After reaching the mountain top with the Cowboys he took over at Florida State University after the retirement of Hall of Fame coach Bobby Bowden, where he won 10 games but didn’t coach long enough to realize a conference title or bowl win. After a short 1-year stint with the Seminoles coach Mitchell took over at Tulane University where he coached for 3 ½ seasons, added 29 more wins and 2 more conference titles to his coaching resume. When NCAA ’09 dropped coach Mitchell went back and fourth on the possibility of coaching four teams, Kentucky, Washington State, Iowa State, and Northwestern. He settled on Kentucky, his main goal for Wildcats was to get them over the hump and build them into not just an SEC power but a national power…after 3-straight 11+ win seasons and 2-straight conference titles I think he has accomplished that goal. After 6 years of service given to the University of Kentucky athletic program, Coach Mitchell has asked for a leave of absence and will embark on his toughest task yet…rebuilding the Iowa State Cyclones. Iowa State is a program in shambles to say the least. Iowa State is an abysmal 18-55 over the past 6 seasons and 5-43 in Big 12 play. The Cyclones have suffered through 3-straight 10-loss seasons and four in the past 5 years. The Cyclones lone winning season came in 2008 when they won 7 games which included a victory in the PapaJohns.com Bowl where they defeated Miami University 35-19. Iowa State’s longest winning streak over the past 6 seasons is 3-games; they are 1-18 versus the Top 25 and 0-12 versus their rivals (Iowa, Missouri). Quotes from Coach Mitchell’s first press conference in Ames Iowa on December, 18th: “I first want to express my gratitude towards the fans, coaches, administration, and media personal over at the University of Kentucky; they were nothing short of courteous, warm and inviting towards me and family. “I want to thank those who followed and kept up with my Kentucky dynasty and I promise I will incorporate every bit of knowledge I picked along the way and apply it to Iowa State. I may revisit Kentucky at a later date but for now I’m excited to take on the new challenges that await me in the future at Iowa State. I feel this will be a lot more interesting to follow as Iowa State is currently in ruins. “I also want to thank Athletic Director Jamie Pollard for me giving me this opportunity to turn around this beleaguered program and bring them to the forefront of the college football universe. “With that out of the way, I can now delve into what this program is going to be all about. Were going to run the ball, I love smash mouth style of offense and running the ball right down the opponents throat. Were also going to implement a solid passing game to rely on when the run gets stopped but our bread and butter so to speak will be our relentless running attack. I know what to look for in a player and what it takes to be a solid rushing team, just look at my track record. “My staff and I are going to have to build this program from the ground up, there’s no denying that, we’re going to have to work long and hard to accomplish that but our goal is quite simple…build a title contender, both in the Big 12 and nationally. Once we do that we then need to maintain that level of success, where it can sustain long term growth, we don’t want to have to rebuild year after year, we want to reload…year after year. “I hope to keep all my devoted followers on board as I partake in this new endeavor as well as potentially pick up some new followers as this task might be more appealing to general public. Gameplay Preferences: 7 Minute QTRS. Penalties, Home Field Advantage- Off, Quiz the QB- Off Recruiting Restrictions: I can only recruit two (2)  or  players in the first year and I can add one (1) or recruit every year following the first year. ex. 2014 (2) , 2015 (3), 2016 (4) ect. *All recruits OTHER than the allowed number of - recruits MUST be from my pipeline states. Red Shirts: I can redshirt a player whenever I feel it necessary for the betterment of the team. Transfers: I will accept any player who wants to transfer to my school. I cannot talk any player into staying if he wants to transfer out of my school. Players Leaving Early: I can only talk one player into staying a year and I must not exceed 30 minutes. Game Play: I use "Corso" called plays on all offensive and defensive possessions, I also can only pick from the first page. **Unless it's the end of the half or the game and I want to take a knee and he calls a different play. I only use one (1) player on defense, usually the LB and I only make plays if the play is in front of me or in my direction.
