Contact more important than Power?

If I want to hit more doubles, triples and homers, is contact or power more important? Assume the two players have 90 vision.

I have players like Mike Trout on my team, yet Starling Marte with his 50ish vision and 30ish power has double the amount of homers than any of my players.

I'm questioning why I spent 80k on players like Mike Trout when a 2k player is outperforming my entire team.

Also, while we are here, what is the "competitive" setting for offense and defense for DD mode? I see most top level streamers using directional hitting on offense and meter pitching on defense. Are those the settings that produce the best results?

Re: Contact more important than Power?

I question this too sometimes.

I do believe contact is more important than power, but you need SOME power to get it out of the park.

I believe this so much that I benched Bagwell and picked up Goldschmidt.

The difference is quite noticeable despite Goldy only having +6 more contact but -14 in power. I have had more home runs per game with him than Bagwell, easily.

I have Mike Schmidt who is almost a sure strike out unless I swing for contact. When I do, hes got enough power to hit it out of the park on just a "Contact" swing.

And Ive hit PLENTY of home runs with Altuve, Carew, Lofton and Marte.

I hardly look at power anymore.

Its all about timing and the right pitch. Does make you think why drop 80 to 90 k on trout when you can get 3 to 4 solid\good players. Unlike basketball droping that on jordan you know what you are getting the advantage is pretty obvious. Baseball is more of a team game alot of the superstars in this game don't really shine like that and have low vision witch is not good.

Re: Contact more important than Power?

Vision has always been maybe the most important rating when hitting online.

A player with 70 contact but 70 vision typically can make more solid contact than an 80 contact with 60 vision. Those are pretty marginal though, but just an example.

Take Jose Abreu for example, his vision is low so his high power doesn't really get to be used very often. Especially with how good the pitching is online you need high vision to compete with Nolan Ryan and Kershaw. High k/9 ratings on pitchers make the PCI of the batter smaller, so having high vision can help mitigate that somewhat. Vision increases the size of the PCI.

I have wondered the same thing. I dont have Trout or any Diamonds except my DD, and from a production stand point on offense has been great. Guys like Marte, Mauer, Feilder have all been my best hitters. Now Adam Jones, Ryan Braun, and Josh Harrison are really good as well, but the other 3 are production monsters. You can get all 3 for under 5k.

Re: Contact more important than Power?

contact to me is definitely way more useful than raw power.
And having too much of both (ie: miggy, which I had for 1 week) is not great either.
My best hitter is a guy like Votto. No surprise there because as the game says "he's an onbase machine". My 2nd best is my leadoff hitter, Cain, who hits for .304, and this, a month into DD.
