Dana Holgorsen to take over as West Virginia Head Coach?

SBNation Pittsburgh, ESPN (I saw it on the ticker this morning) and The West Virginia Gazette have all confirmed Dana Holgorsen has been hired as West Virginia's Offensive Coordinator and will take over as head coach by the end of next season. What do you think of this move? I see West Virginia moving into an Air Raid offense. I do NOT want to see that, being a true Mountaineer fan and watching the Spread work wonders when Rich-Rod was coach. I for one do not agree with this. But it could work out well. I just do not want them turning from Spread to Air Raid.

Stewart says he'll coach next year and retire. Seems likely this is gonna take a year or more to transition offense-wise. Radical change there...but hey it's the Big East...you can just schedule 5 nobodies in your OOC and win one conference game, and voila, bowl game.

I think we would have been much better off getting Tommy Bowden to come back to coaching! I mean, a 90-49 record while at Tulane and then Clemson, and a West Virginia Alum. Good fit for the most part. If not him, then possibly hire Rich Rod back if Harbaugh goes to Michigan, but who at WVU would want that?

Assuming it even happens (remember, every source a few days ago had all but confirmed Bob Stoops going to Florida), I dont see it being a bad thing. Even if West Virginia wants to run the ball, look at Okie State. They still run the ball often and well.

Some people may not like the Air Raid, but the fact of the matter is that, it works.

Re: Dana Holgorsen to take over as West Virginia Head Coach?

That may be true, but with Shawne Alston, we should go to a power running game. I know I said I love watching the Spread in Morgantown, but I started researching, and Holgorsen does run the ball well. Kendall Hunter had great stats, but if Im not mistaken he is much faster than Alston. And of course the recievers are close to spectacular, or they have the potential to be. Tavon Austin, J.D. Woods, and Stedman Bailey all have the ability to go up and get it, even if Austin is just under 6 foot. So maybe they could lean towards a pro style? Except with a lot more run, like Wisconsin maybe? I mean, there are a lot of possibilities for the Mountaineers, I just dont know if Holgorsen has any of those in his mind.
