UC DAVIS SURVIVES SCARE FROM UCSB

"I don't care what anyone says, Santa-Barbara is a very solid team" commented Lathen Scott after the game, "They fight hard, they have a true leader at the point guard, and they have a straight up man in the paint. I would hate to have to play them in the conference tournament." UCSB, who came into the game 7-11, battled the Aggies who lead the conference all the way until the last 3 minutes of the game when UC Davis pulled away. Coach Scott ended up the press conference with a little insight into his personality, "I remember smiling to myself and getting butterflies in my stomack thinking that this could be another game that could go down to the wire. Man I love basketball!"

NOTES: I feel like I am getting close to getting the sliders that I want. Just a couple more games and I think I will have a set that I can run with for many seasons to come.
Also I really did get butterflies in my stomach for a second and smiled to myself thinking that the game could go down to the wire lol. I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!

UC DAVIS ST. MARY'S GOES DOWN TO FINAL POSSESSION

Hi this Ryan Burns on 103.8 KUCD with the postgame show for your UC Davis Aggies. If you did not watch this game or turned it off early in the second half, you missed a great finish! UC Davis came back from being down 43-26 with 17:00 left in the game and even took the lead with just a couple minutes to play. Then down 1 with 30 secoonds left, UC Davis had the ball with the shot clock essentially useless. Then with just 10 seconds left Harden got the ball in the paint but was blocked but two Gaels and St. Mary's escaped winning 74-71.

Now I am here with the player of the game Ryan Howley:

RB: Ryan, how did you and the rest of the guys manage to fight back from being down 17?

RH: Well our shots started to fall and we tightened up defensively. We started to stop Dellevedova from scoring and just never let the lead get too out of hand.

RB: With you being one of the better defenders, was there any pressure being put against those great shooters?

RH: Not really. It was definitely very tough especially if I had to guard Jones because of his size but I like the challenge.

RB: Lastly, the past few games you have seemed to be a dependable scorer. What changed that has helped you be more consistent?

RH: Nothing really changed. I just started to work harder in practice. I also started going to the shooting and shooting late at night, instead of playing video games or something like that. I feel like I am improving and it feels like all the hard work is starting to pay off.

RB: Thanks Ryan! Now I'm here with the head coach of the Aggies, Lathen Scott. First of all, happy belated birthday to you! Now I was asking Ryan this a minute ago, what did it take for you guys to start making that comeback in the last 15 or so minutes of the game?

LS: Well we just couldn't get a shot to fall in the first half. When that continued in the first few minutes in the second half, we got discouraged and let up defensively. So I started mixing a couple defensive zones with the man-to-man to help keep them on their toes. Then our shots started falling and next thing you know, we were right back in it.

RB: You guys seemed to make it a point of stopping McConnell. What did it take to stop a great shooter like him?

LS: Well to be honest with you, I was more nervous about Dellevedova. Then Jones started to get on a scoring spree so we had to make a decision, do we worry about McConnell or Jones? It ended up being Jones but it was too little too late I'm afraid.

RB: So what is Mike Kurtz's health status?

LS: Well with about 10 minutes left he rolled his ankle pretty bad. He says it is pretty sore but we don't think it will keep him out of the game saturday. He might not get the same minutes but he will play.

RB: Thanks Lathen! Well that is all for us today Aggie fans. I hope to see you at The Pavilion this saturday on Groundhog Day as we face off against Pacific who is currently 7-11.

Re: Lathen Scott with an oppurtunity of a lifetime (College Hoops 2k8)

Hey guys I want your help on this one. Should I stick to the format I have been using for post-games or do you like the little post-game interviews? Are there too many questions in the interviews? What are y'alls opinions?

To be honest, I think the format is a little bit messy, I'm not going to brag about how great I think my format is or anything because I know it's far from perfect but maybe try something similar to mine? Other than the format I'm really enjoying this dynasty, good luck with the rest of the season hopefully you can bring UC Davis to a NIT or NCAA big.

Re: Lathen Scott with an oppurtunity of a lifetime (College Hoops 2k8)

PACIFIC UC DAVIS HAVE DEFENSIVE BATTLE IN THE PAVILION

(Insert picture of Josh Ritchart here)

Hey Aggie fans this is 103.8 KUCD and this is your commentator Ryan Burns. This was a very unique game especially for the UC Davis Aggies. The Aggies who are known for their high scoring games, played a different kind of game today. This was a game about how could get more stops. UC Davis won that battle at halftime and only gave up 13 points to Pacific and had a solid 11 point lead at halftime. This defensive stretch stayed up until the last 10 minutes when Pacific figured out how to break UC Davis's stellar defense. Although Pacific started to score late, UC Davis held their ground and won 57-47.

Now I am here with the player of game: Freshman, Josh Ritchart.

RB: To start off Josh, you grabbed 16 rebounds today! How were you able to manage that?

JR: Well we knew we had to step with Mike [Kurtz] hurt. He wasn't able to play much so I know individually I hit to the boards harder today and I did.

RB: What was if that made your defense today so stellar?

JR: Well Pacific is not exactly known for their scoring. There only real scoring threats were the two guards in the backcourt and a forward. The forward has no jumper so we played a Triangle-and-2 D to stop them in the backcourt.

RB: Thanks Josh! Now I am here with coach Scott. Coach, did you make up your mind before the game that this was going to be about defense, not offense?

LS: Well Ryan I don't know if I'd say that it wasn't about offense today but I did come into the game wanting to slow it down. Our half-court offense was not good today but since we were more worried about their guards getting into transition, I was not surprised when this game turned into a defensive battle.

RB: I remember you saying at the beginning of the year that you would do whatever it took to stop the opposition from scoring, is today one of those days where you had to think outside the box a little?

LS: Yes I guess you could say that. And I'd say it worked out if I say so myself. We only let them score 2 points in the first 10 minutes of the game. We knew what we had to do to win and we did it. We held their guard combo to just 13 points. I feel really good about today's win.

RB: Thanks coach! That's all for today Aggie fans. Meet us monday night at 7:00 for the weekly call-in show with coach Scott and meet us right here at 103.8 an hour before the game against the 9-11 (4-4) Long Beach St. 49ers. This will be the second matchup between both teams and UC Davis will be looking for the sweep.

Well I'm trying to have some form of write-up so people can follow it a little more in depth and I have the box scores for people to see the stats. I'll keep working at it and thanks for the input.
