It was my favorite version of the game before 2K8. I was still primarily playing College Hoops 2K4 up until I finally got 2K8.

It surely shows its age in graphics and gameplay, but I LOVE the ESPN presentation and the atmosphere. The intro to the game was awesome with Mike Patrick doing the intro and the menu music was ESPN college basketball themed music which really got me pumped up for every game. Just having that ESPN logo there made it so much more immersive.

Intro to the game:

Here is some video of gameplay/presentation (note that this is taken with CPU vs. CPU, normally the camera would be behind the controlled player):

The atmosphere is better if you turn up the crowd and band noise and lower the commentators' volume. I still love those cutscenes they show all these years later.

I would advise trying it out if you can get it for cheap. You may not find the same level of enjoyment as I, though, as I think a lot of my love for the game is nostalgia. It was the first college basketball videogame I ever owned and only the second (original) Xbox game I ever purchased. It, along with Madden NFL 2004, were the first sports games I ever started franchises/dynasties with.

I still pop it in every now and then.

Looks like you had a Big East Championship in the Title Game, just as I did in the past season in my game. Good to see Pitt lose by 20 to Louisville, though!

One thing I guess I should mention is that there was no coach mode until ESPN College Hoops 2K5.
