Season Outlook - A lot of new faces join the 2009 SDSU mens Basketball team. The Aztecs will yield a very young and inexperienced team that has potential to be dominant, can they overcome their selfish ways and growing pains early on? New faces include Top Freshman and Mr. California Kawhi Leonard. Also new to SDSU is Malcolm Thomas who is suspected to be a one and done at the Mesa and head to the NBA after the season. Also stepping into the starting role is C Brian Carlwell who sat out last season due to NCAA Transfer rules. Carlwell transfered from Illinois. Chase Tapley is a highly touted freshman as well from Sacramento, CA. Alec Williams will also look to see minutes as he joins a very deep Aztec front court containing star Billy White, Tim Shelton and Mehdi Cheriet. Kelvin Davis and DJ Gay make up the starting guards this season for the Aztecs. Neither has starting experience but received many minutes during last years season. Guard play will determine the Aztec Success as the Forwards will be how they win games.

San Diego State to Participate in ESPN College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon; Aztecs Travel to Saint Mary's for a Little Late Night Basketball

Short a trio of players who earned preseason all-conference honors by multiple publications, San Diego State (1-0) defeated Division II UC San Diego on Saturday. But 24 hours later, the Aztecs find themselves on the road ready for a late-night Monday date at Saint Mary's (1-0).

Game time is set for 11 p.m. PT in what is the second game of ESPN's College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon. The non-conference tilt will be televised by ESPN and those not near a TV can watch the game on the internet at ESPN360.com. The rematch of last year's NIT quarterfinal, meanwhile, can be heard in Southern California on AM 600 KOGO.


The game is the second in three days for San Diego State and the rapid pace will continue in the days to follow. After Saint Mary's, the Aztecs will return home to prepare for a Thursday clash with a second consecutive member of the West Coast Conference, Santa Clara.

GAELS DOMINATE AZTECS



The Gaels jumped out to a big lead over SDSU and never looked back. The main reason for these lead were the turnovers by the Aztecs (20) and the poor offensive decision making. The young Aztecs looked every bit their age as the talented kids who were once dominating stars in high school played that way. The Aztecs were too greedy and selfish and had a poor time distrubting the rock.

San Diego State Returns to Viejas Arena to Play Host to Santa Clara in First Game of West Coast Classic

After an embarrassing opening game loss at the hands of St. Marry's at the ESPN 24 Hour College Hoops Kickoff, the Aztecs look to rebound against Santa Clara in the opening round of the West Coast Classic. The Aztecs return home to the Viejas Arena and are highly favored in this matchup against the Bronco's. The Aztecs will need to play better both offensively and defensively if they want a shot to win. In the game against St. Mary's, the Aztecs had 0 offensive rebounds and shot worse than 50% from the field. The Broncos are led by Marc Trasolini and Troy Payne.

Connection - Former Santa Clara standout Guard James Rahon, a San Diego Native has transfered from the Bronco's to the Aztecs.
