Re: NBA 2K23 - The Kobe Era Reimagined

Stop the presses, the Clippers are headed to the Western Conference Finals! The shorthanded Spurs managed to build a 13 point lead late in the third but the Clippers used their youth and speed to cut t down and take the lead in the fourth. Even then, the Spurs refused to die, nailing jumpers and threes to combat the free throws the Clippers were making. Eventually, Manu Ginobili (25 points) drilled a deep three to tie it at 108 with 8.0 seconds left. The ball went to Lamar Odom (28 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds) but Ginobili smacked the ball out of his hands on his drive. Tim Duncan (32 points, 12 rebounds) was jumping for a block, allowing Elton Brand (25 points, 9 rebounds) to scoop up the loose ball and lay it in with 0.3 left, winning the game.

Conference Finals Preview
(2) New Jersey Nets @ (1) Detroit Pistons
Again, the Nets are repeating a playoff opponent for the second straight year. Last season, they trounced the top-seeded Pistons in a shocking four game sweep. As noted, this Nets team lost a bit on paper but did just rally from down 3-2 to beat Orlando. Still, Detroit is loaded this year and looks unstoppable. The Nets will give them a run but it feels like Detroit’s year to topple them.

Prediction: Pistons in 6

(3) Los Angeles Clippers @ (1) Minnesota Timberwolves
The Clippers are probably basketball’s feel good story this year. That said, it still took everything they had to beat a Spurs team without Tony Parker. Minnesota has shored up its team and is as deep as it gets. That will be too much for the upstart Clippers, who will likely take at least one on their homecourt.

Prediction: Timberwolves in 5

Eastern Conference Finals Game 1
(2) New Jersey Nets @ (1) Detroit Pistons

Nets
Jason Kidd (20.4ppg, 11.0apg, 5.8rpg, 1.9spg, 49FG%)
Kerry Kittles (13.5ppg, 3.4apg, 1.0spg, 47FG%)
Richard Jefferson (12.0ppg, 5.2rpg, 4.3apg, 1.9spg, 48FG%)
Kenyon Martin (17.5ppg, 9.7rpg, 1.1bpg, 49FG%)
Jason Collins (5.9ppg, 6.0rpg, 1.3bpg, 53FG%)
6th Man: Carlos Arroyo (10.0ppg, 3.9apg, 46FG%)

Pistons
Chauncey Billups (24.0ppg, 7.2apg, 3.6rpg, 53FG%)
Richard Hamilton (23.0ppg, 4.4rpg, 4.2apg, 54FG%)
Tayshaun Prince (8.0ppg, 7.0rpg, 5.2apg, 34FG%)
Chris Bosh (16.4ppg, 6.7rpg, 1.0spg, 1.0bpg, 47FG%)
Ben Wallace (8.3ppg, 14.7rpg, 1.6bpg, 41FG%)
6th Man: Rasheed Wallace (8.4ppg, 6.2rpg, 1.0bpg, 49FG%)

Re: NBA 2K23 - The Kobe Era Reimagined

Kinda wild how the “Kobe era” reimagined is on the verge of being the Kidd era. Pistons seem like they should win, but if not, that’d be one hell of a statement for the Nets and Kidd

Re: NBA 2K23 - The Kobe Era Reimagined

The Pistons had everything they could want to beat the Nets. A 14 point fourth quarter lead, big games from Chauncey Billups (25 points, 9 assists), Richard Hamilton (21 points), and Ben Wallace (20 rebounds), and Jason Kidd (15 points, 11 assists) fouling out late. Somehow, they still lost. Kidd fouled out with Detroit up 93-90 late but his backup, Carlos Arroyo (11 points, 7 assists) assisted on a Kerry Kittles (14 points) three. Hamilton’s winner was blocked by Kenyon Martin (24 points, 10 rebounds) with 0.3 left. In overtime, the Nets smothered Detroit and pulled away a 107-100 victory. With last year’s sweep and this Game 1 comeback, do the Nets have Detroit’s number?

NBA Finals Preview
(1) Minnesota Timberwolves vs (1) Detroit Pistons
The top team in the East against the top team in the West. This feels like one of the most intriguing NBA Finals in a long time. Defensive stalwarts against a high powered and efficient offense. Kevin Garnett is playing like a madman this postseason (22.1ppg, 14.9rpg, 8.7apg, 2.5bpg) and he’s getting help, while Detroit is a balanced threat from top to bottom. Garnett is great but throwing Ben Wallace, Chris Bosh, and Rasheed Wallace at him will make it too tough to overcome.

Prediction: Pistons in 6
