Cubs 2012: A New Beginning (The Show 2012)

So here it is; The start of a brand new season, and the start of new hope for the dismal Chicago Cubs. Beginning 2012, the Cubs are in the same spot as everyone else n the league, 0-0, and full hope that this will finally be the year the streak of ugliness ends. The Cubs have a revamoed front office, revamped pitching staff, and a young lineup that could be great with a little fine tuning. Will this be the storybook year that Chicago Cub fans have been waiting for over a century? We will see.

The Cubs had another day of dominant pitching from their starter and were able to keep momentum with great defense as they improve their season record to 2-0. Matt garza went 7 strong innings only giving up 1 run. The key behind Garza was the defensive effort put forth by first baseman Jeff Baker. Baker had 3 key defensive plays including an unassited double play to stop a Nationals charge in the 4th.
Offensively the Cubs were again strong in the early innings as Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez was pulled after ony 3 1/3 innings. The Cubs were led by left fielder Alfonso SOriano whose two-run homerun in the 2nd inning propelled the Cubs to a good start. Kerry Wood threw the final two-innings for the victors.
The Nationals did have a great relief outing from RP Tom Gorzelanny who threw 3 perfect innings that included 5 strikeouts.
The series finishes tomorrow as Cubs starter Jeff Samardizja (0-0) 0.00ERA goes against Jordan Zimmermann (0-0) 0.00ERA.

The Chicago Cubs were able to maintain their perfect run of the season again today as they took the thrid and final game of the opening series from the Washington Nationals 4-3. The Cubs sweep the Nats for the first time in 8 years. The Cubs again had a great start from their starting pitvher as Jeff Samardjiza went 6 innings giving up only 2 runs.

The 6th and 7th innings went back and forth as both teams had numerous opportunities toblow the game open, but failed to string key hits together. The biggest moment came in the 7th as Alfonso Soriano hit a ball to left that barely snuck in behind the foul marker for the game winning homerun.

The Cubs start a new series against the Milwaukee Brewers tomorrow as Chris Volstad (0-0) 0.00 ERA faces off against Shaun Marcum (0-0) 0.00ERA in a battle of unbeaten teams.
