During one of the highlight videos there were balls being deflected and incomplete. Most of these gameplay videos are not catered toward people like us, but toward the casual sports gamer. Everyone wants to see the spectacular plays.

Re: Backbreaker Hands-On Preview w/ Gameplay Videos (IGN)

Woah woah woah! Where did all you Negative Nancys come from!? Goodness!

I can't believe we are watching the same videos. The game still looks pretty damn amazing to me.

The passing game is already starting to make the old passing engines of the past look dated. That is how the field should look when passing the ball. I like how you have to move in the pocket and I'm glad they showed an instance where the QB had to step up to pass the ball.

Maybe they are not highlighting incomplete passes at the moment. Why would they be anyway? They are still showing HIGHLIGHT videos. They have already mentioned there will be incomplete passes so why worry?

As far as the line interaction, I noticed alot more when watching the vids multiple times. I noticed a RE rush up the field while others didn't. So that showed variety in the pass rush. I noticed a double team. Nice addition. Most of the time when the QB had alot of time was when there were 5 linemen and 4 rushers. They also showed the QB getting sacked a few times. So maybe just maybe when the QB is getting alot of time, it a good offensive line vs a mediocre one.

Notice when the defense blitzed, the Qb made a quick throw that resulted in an INT.

Maybe I am being too optomistic or maybe you guys are being too pessimistic but I saw plenty postive in that video. I saw way more positive then negative.

Another little thing that I heard was a stadium announcer. Another nice touch. Something does need to be done about the generic YUMA and all that other stuff they were yelling. Was there some delay or something?

I already see guys in this thread giving this game passes they would scream bloody murder about if it it was EA. I understand it's a first year effort but excusing only one camera angle, and a bad one at that (IMO), is not what we should be encouraging here. We should be asking why the game isn't trying to better Madden in areas like this, not equal them in poor choices. That is the only way this game can survive for further iterations.

It's not good enough for this game to be as good as Madden in many areas, it's going to have to be far better in as many areas as it can be. And one camera angle is simply a poor design choice, not a technology or programming limitation.
Take into account, this is a first time title and a small development team. They probably have half the resources Madden had for Madden 06 and they had to create everything from scratch. Blocking AI, Coverage AI, Passing/running system, the entire league, uniform creator, everything. How high of a priority would multiple cameras views probably be? They wanted to be different from Madden, not give us a generic version of that game but give us an on the field perspective and that's what they've done.

And Yes, I do think this game deserves more slack than Madden because no other developer has the balls to even try and give us a new football game.

Re: Backbreaker Hands-On Preview w/ Gameplay Videos (IGN)

While I don't agree with some of the design decisions, I do think this game looks pretty damn good for a first attempt. I noticed the blocking was a little funky at times, but it's no worse than what Madden has so it's whatever.

While I would like to have the more traditional camera angle, I understand what the devs are going for. Still would be nice to give us options. I hope their camera choice doesn't backfire on them. The frame rate didn't look as smooth as it should be. Hopefully it was just the video.

The only thing I really didn't like was the sounds. For such a high octane game the crowd and on field sounds were pretty dull.

Re: Backbreaker Hands-On Preview w/ Gameplay Videos (IGN)

kjcheezhead - having a user camera angle or at least multiple angles is not something that requires a large team with lots of time and money. As to how high of a priority that should have been, one look at a focus group should have yielded that result. Simply take a look at this thread and you'll see what I mean.

As for no other dev making a football game, what do you call the Blitz series? The mere fact that you and others forget that game should worry those that are hoping for this one to succeed.

For me I'll give them a lot of the benefit of the doubt because I know they have inexperience and not near as many resources as some game devs do, but poor design decisions is not something I'm as willing to let go and neither should any of you who are hoping to see this title not come out of the gate to an EPIC FAIL.
