Well, the use of the phrase "this doesn't bother me much either makes me think he's really not all that offended at all here.

Again, not really fair as one is an obvious parody, like Conan's photoshops, while the other was trying to subtly change things and pass it off as the truth. Apples and oranges.

I'm not a liberal, but I don't see how that is an unfair expectation (to put it mildly). There's no indication this was done tongue-in-cheek or in such an obvious manner that it was supposed to be a joke or somehow tied into the story in a humorous manner. It was quite simply "poor form."
