MLB The Show 16: The Little Things in This Year's Game

In the latest stream, some MLB 16 The Show developers revealed some of the "little things" we can expect to see improved this year.

-The Operation Sports community got some love from the developers when they (re)introduced "Sounds of the Show" on the PS4. I am excited to see customized soundtracks, walk-up music and chants return because these things really help create an authentic atmosphere. The feature has been sorely missed this generation, and its inclusion seems like a real labor of love for the developers.

-Sounds of the Show looks to be as fully featured as we remember, and doesn't seem too difficult to use. The number of tracks and sounds seems suitable for most users, and using a webcam or other device for chants is a reasonable hurdle to clear.

-Interactive and context-sensitive tutorials are something all games should have. While this might not be the biggest addition for longtime users, those of us with kids appreciate the help they provide for the youngest fans.

-The quick look at an environmental cutscene looked great!

-Closed and open domes should make a lot of fans happy.

-A small improvement, but I really like the circle rating indicators, rather than the traditional bars we've seen for years.

-The Polo Grounds looked good, but the lighting seemed a little flat. Of course, it's been repeatedly said that the lighting is a last-minute fix in the development cycle. I can't wait to see the other classic stadiums.

-Changes to "Challenge of the Week" don't excite me because I don't visit that feature after the first week or so. I like the quick experience, but I would rather spend my time in Road to the Show or Franchise.

-Similarly, I welcome the additional and new equipment, but it's not something I really was clamoring for like some others. But, hey, this is the "Little Things" feed.

-Speaking of little things, I can finally change the paint on my created catcher's nails.

-I am excited to hear some of the new lines of dialogue when the developers cover presentation stuff later in the press schedule. Likewise, I am excited to hear how the weekly recap show has been changed.

-This may have been mentioned during the gameplay feed, but some of the hit trajectories look improved. It could be the camera angle the team is using, but sinking line drives and infield chops look really good.

Things continue to look up for The Show 16, and I look forward to some of the deep dives in the coming weeks.

No one here is a professional sports announcer/commentator, so it wouldn't really be a fair comparison, when compared against Matty V.

A more fair comparison would be between Matty V and other lead commentators for other sports game.

Lmaoooo, i didn't, i thought i read every post in the thread, my fault.

Still though, the fairer comparison is between Matty V and other lead commentators, regardless.

Of course....I wouldn't expect anyone to be on par with a pro(but you never know!)....

It would be a good goof to hear you guys do them though!

There really is no need for a 3 man booth, 2 is more than sufficient. Karros and Lyons never became relevant in the series and I am sure they will be discarded at some point. Having Matt and someone who can hold a conversation with him would be fine with me.

I like the idea of the Radio Show being more condensed & quicker. It became far to long winded & repetitive to the point that I just tuned it out. This was especially the case late in the Season when each Team standing in the League was reviewed (Do I really need to be told every day that the Padres are over 20 Games out of 1st???).

Matt and Smoltz. Do it.

I think Matt is a great play by play guy but his true emotion is not being captured compared to what he shows in real life. His excitement is truly great to hear, I just wish SCEA could tap into it (better).

Well...I mean, technically, I have been paid by two different radio stations to provide play-by-play commentary for several different sports. I don't know if that qualifies me as a "professional" but careful with your assumptions now!!

Here you go Knight!! I'm not doing Matt V, but it'll give you an idea. For me, imitation is like a second language, can't explain how I'm able to do it, guess it's just a good ear for things. http://yourlisten.com/manuel.aguero....live-on-xm-mlb

Oh well, they took it down after being up for 4 years, shame! Maybe I can find my mp3 file somewhere.

It's still on, enjoy!

I know some as well as myself that either play with the commentary off or just have matt v only as play by play. The other two that have been paired with matt v have never blended in well having no chemistry, tone of voice off, and just terrible lines.

Having a lot of lines that are not well done in voice acting and chemistry defeat the purpose of having a lot of lines stored up. The mlb the show experience has been so great at its core. The one thing lacking has been the commentary and presentation. If this area of game can just improve for the future, this series would have the complete experience in sports video gaming. It would be a great milestone and achievement to this already great series.

I agree. Just the other day, I was playing NBA2k, and my mom thought I was watching a game, that's how good the audio presentation is. If we can some day get even close to that, it'll be amazing! Of course just like any game, 2k repeats lines, but when it all comes together like it does, you don't notice it as much.

Anyone know if sounds of the show is an online feature, like will I be able to use this in an online franchise game?

You won't be able to use SotS online, undoubtedly for legal reasons. Media storage would be an issue as well I would think.

SOTS isn't (or, at least wasn't on the PS3) saved inside of a gameplay mode though. When you made changes, it covered the whole game.

I think you'd probably hear your own sound effects and music changes on your own system (where applicable - a lot of the presentation and music cues that go with it get cut out for online), but it definitely wouldn't transfer your SOTS edits to an opponent's PS4.

I have had this same experience with my parents

2KSports Presentations Audio and video is second to none!

Hmm, that could be a possibility. I was thinking more full presentation, as if you were both hearing the same thing, which I don't think is possible. It would be cool if you could at least keep your SotS edits on your end.
