NBA 2K16: MyCAREER NBA Details and Off-Day Simulator Video

By now you’ve hopefully watched the MyCAREER trailer and read about Spike Lee’s involvement in the process. But what happens after all that? Lee’s story starts at the beginning, but ends just as you make it to the NBA.

So we pick it up with the Off-Day Simulator, one the newest additions to NBA 2K16. You will have upwards of 80 off days during each season, which should give you ample time to still participate in random activities that relate to your MyCAREER.

You’ll be taken to the NEXT Menu, your UI hub between games where you decide what’s next. Time management plays a critical role in your MyCAREER, especially since you have full control of each decision made. The NEXT Menu will show what’s scheduled each day, from Endorsements, Connections and Live Practice. Each option will reward you with something new each time. Rewards can include pre-game rituals, Virtual Currency or even the option of jersey selection for games.

Endorsements

Similar as in the past, endorsements will couple your brand with an NBA sponsor to make money. Earn VC and other rewards such as billboards, commercials or your very own signature shoe.

Companies will offer you contracts that ask you to commit to a specific amount of off-days. Like an incentive-based contract, the more you do the greater you will receive. Pay attention, though, because as you improve sponsors will begin competing with each other for your services. Don’t overcommit.

Connections

Now you can build up relationships and friendships with other players, legends and personalities around the Association. Michael Jordan could take you golfing…who knows?

If you hang with Dwight Howard for a day, you can unlock th Expression Badge. Or you can choose to chill out and water ski with Blake Griffin to earn his pre-game rim hang routine. Again, the choice is yours.

Live Practice

Yeah, we ARE talking about practice.

Scott O’Gallagher, a NBA 2K developer who the knows the Xs and Os of basketball as good as any, went all out. Live 5-on-5 practice will net you new skills. There are even options to do single specific workouts to improve ratings. All of these are pulled straight from the minds of NBA organizations and personal experience.

There’s also a free shootaround period where you can explore the gym and interact with coaches and teammates.

MyCOURT

This could have been an article on its own. MyCOURT should be one of the greatest additions to NBA 2K16. This is your landing area for the mode, the place where you always come back to between games and story scenes. You can upgrade you player, check out stats and standings and watch NBA 2KTV (and story scenes over again).

MyCOURT is completely customizable, everything from the floors, walls, rims, backboards, nets, balls, lines, and so on can be modified, colored and upgraded. There is a display case to show off all of your awards and accomplishments.

You can also invite your friends to hang out and shoot around on your court while waiting to hit the Pro-Am courts together. Want to play a quick game of 5-on-5, do it. Only have four friends, how about a quick 2-on-2?

So in the end, you'll be going from a Spike Lee Joint to a mode with more control and customization. Here's to hoping all the additions mesh well together in the end.

Still geeked we finally get to change jerseys. Hopefully, it doesn't take too long to unlock that.
Lol @ having to score 100 points in a quarter to unlock the alt jerseys.

I wonder 2 things how will establishing connections work 6 or 8 years into MyCareer when the league is filled when cpu generated players? And lastly in regards to Live practice I wonder if skills will regress if we spend too much time trying to make connection and get endorsements? and if they do regress could this be 2K's way to combat people's complaints of people buying maxed out players by having those people being forced to maintain their high rating in all these skill drills where they will have to continually have to get high marks to keep it? just some food for thought guys

All this looks amazing. Great decision to give us things to do on our off days. Has me anxious to see what the offseason is like. If everything works right, this has to go down as the best 2K easily. Maybe even sports game. Or even video game period for me since I mostly am into sports.
assuming they have all the alternate/holiday jerseys in the game on day one, since roster updates won't affect an already started mycareer/mygm. I'm not psyched I'm going to have to wait a month or two to start so I can get Holberg's offense on the Bulls.

How about the attributes upgrade? I hope that they won't be in categories. And the customization of the shot?

# 68 ReRo @ 09/15/15 10:11 AM
Is there any news on possible attribute lock in relation to player height/weight? I really don't want to see a bunch of 7 foot small forwards in MyPark again, as fast as Westbrook, with LaVine's vertical and CP3 ball handling. If it stays the same I probably won't play MyPark at all.

Also why is there no info on MyPark? Or did I miss it?

But man am I excited about MyCareer this year, CANT WAIT. These last 10 days will feel loooong.

I'd like to hear more about the high school and college experience. Any info on that? How long is that part, what is the gameplay like, is it just cutscenes, etc.?

Sooo hype about MYCourt, can finally play your friends crews!! We will be able to practice plays too. Also this is how we will do tryouts for when people try to join our crew. 2K16 can really be the best sport game!

They will for my team.

For Crew, yes, most people I know tried people out in Pickup games. Most of the serious and real good teams did this.

Bleacher Report released a preview of the game yesterday here (the full read shares some new tidbits) and the guys state that the name can be whatever you want:

Quote:
Your character—who doesn't have to be called Frequency Vibrations; you can name him whatever you want—begins the story as a high school basketball superstar. That's right, you'll get a chance to play high school games in NBA 2K16.
So, looks like you can name him whatever (that doesn't mean he won't be called "Freak" in story just as a nickname always but there are worse names).

Honestly, I know many adults who act worse and are way more immature. Vetting people is cool but categorically denial of people is lacking imo. ymmv.

# 79 MontanaMan @ 09/15/15 06:33 PM
I have to vet people this year. The amount of cheesers and ball hogs who think the game should revolve around them is too many to count.

I've had people literally throw tantrums because they aren't getting touches every time down.

Forgive me but until I see it I don't believe it.
They never said they'd let you choose, they just said they were in.
