NBA Live 14 Roster Updates Not Living up to Promises

The last time NBA Live 14's roster was updated, Stephen Jackson had just signed with the Los Angeles Clippers and Rudy Gay had been dealt to the Sacramento Kings in a massive 7-player trade.

Since December 10, almost a dozen different transactions have occurred in the NBA, including Captain Jack's departure from Lob City. None of those moves, unfortunately, are currently reflected in NBA Live 14.

Significant injuries, such as Kobe Bryant's fractured knee, Brook Lopez' broken right foot and Al Horford's pectoral tear, also are not presently represented in NBA Live 14.

None of this would be an issue if gamers were allowed to edit NBA Live 14's rosters and make the changes themselves, but by design, the game prohibits all 400-plus NBA players from being edited or traded.

The sudden, early-December halt to roster updates contradicts the gameplan NBA Live 14 had laid out at June's Electronic Entertainment Expo and continued selling to consumers, all the way up to the game's November release:

Quote:
"I want NBA Live to be relevant to the NBA fan throughout the entire NBA season, providing data and content updates that keep your gaming experience fresh and in lockstep with everything that's going on in the real world NBA...I'm really excited about being able to update our game within an hour of something happening in the NBA. We're going to be making an enormous investment into this connected experience."

"Our connected experience doesn’t stop at player ratings – data will also affects the way each player looks. If Derrick Rose drops a new colorway for his sneakers during the season, the new kicks will be updated in NBA LIVE 14. No waiting for a roster update, no special patch, just another piece that gets automatically updated each day. Same goes for new accessories or gear, even haircuts. Anytime an NBA player changes up his look NBA LIVE 14 will be there to make him look right in-game."

EA Sports Press Release
November 6, 2003

Over the past two months, being an NBA Live fan has become about as difficult as being a Brooklyn Nets fan. A new coach, rebuilt lineup and state-of-the-art arena all generated preseason optimism. Injuries, poor on-court performance and questionable leadership have since squashed any enthusiasm.

Unfortunately for NBA Live 14, the lineup of launch games it's competing against is significantly stronger than the 2013-2014 Atlantic division.

And unlike the real NBA, there will be no magic lottery balls coming to save this rapidly dwindling franchise, its only hope is in turning its fortunes around with hard work and kept promises.

Does the lack of roster updates in NBA Live 14 bother you?

Didn't even bother to check. Based on the up to the hour updates that were promised pre-release it should be updated

Their up****** philosophy, add or subtract one or two attributes to each player and say Synergy is working! Wow, I understand they are working on 15 but this had to be one of the laziest jobs ever.

Annnnnddddd the granger trade still isn't active on there. What are these guys priorities lol....

I mean I understand there are other things going on, but usually video games update, at the latest, a day after a trade is made.

People may say I am overly critical, but someone needs to hammer these guys for their absolute apathy. I saw a poster in another thread call the EA team "lazy" and a moderator said "don't use that language". Well, what other adjectives are there?

I will go with "apathetic". Maybe "disinterested". Maybe "incapable".

I hadn't booted this game up for a week, but I put it on just now to play a Pacers v Miami game and there is DANNY GRANGER on the Pacers. Come on, just come on. Wake up and work for f's sake. It's 2014 and you promised "hourly updates" and yet you don't even have a trade deadline update two days later. Not a single trade. I have persevered but this thing is being sold. I've grown tired of 2K every year and I'd like an alternative, but this has been the most apathetic, half hearted 'effort' I have ever seen in a modern game. If this was a small team of 8 / independent developer I'd be okay with it, but this is a full priced EA game and you can't even update the trade deadline day which all basketball fans wait on. Absolutely hopeless.

2ks rosters on next gen arent much better. You can't even save them locally. Injured guys still starters etc

It's better than nothing though....even if they don't update as fast as I would like, I have the option of making those moves myself...and quite honestly they've improved a lot as far as frequency and accuracy...

Not about 2k though...Live promised hourly updates...I'd settle for daily....**** maybe even weekly

I literally won't play the game until the Bucks are updated. May be petty, but man, I can't look at a Glenn Robinson Antetokounmpo and a Coolio looking Nate Wolters. Just isn't right.

I played a part of a game this weekend, made me realize why I love the game, but then started playing with the Bucks and made me realize why I'm so disgruntled with it at the same time.

Get this crap right.

This is what they wrote me today regarding the rosters and the Giannis issue.

Hey Loosey! Apologize for the delay, our team is working on the updates ASAP. We've seen the community feedback and we're going to make sure these get updated right away. Thanks for your patience

Honestly, that seems like their generic response that they've told to every issue people have from this game.

Then again, I mentioned it a month ago, and they were "working on it" at that time too. I want them in there, so I can play again. I start a game, see Giannis sitting on the bench and turn it off. I love playing with Knight in the game, and Ilyasova/Sanders too... but when Big Dog is glaring at me from the bench, it kills it.

Honestly, at this point I am CONVINCED that the majority of the EA team working on this game really have no idea / no interest in basketball. I.e. they are just computer people and sales people. It's like "hey, thanks for letting us know about this thing called A TRADE DEADLINE. Wow, we will get onto it soon. And what's that, a player called Danny Stranger was traded by a contending team for a guy called Eve Turnip, wow we can't wait to get this update out there for you guys! Keep letting us know guys!"

I mean, WTF. Even the ultimate sales guy, Ronnie 2K, gets a trade deadline out immediately.

# 52 loosey101 @ 02/24/14 07:15 PM
Haha that's my next rising star, Eve Turnip. But seriously, you guys are right, that's a generic response and how long does it take to update something like that.

It never fails, a fan doing all he can to make this pathetic game positive throws 2k under the bus. I can tell you that 2k rosters are much better than anything EA has to offer, that Granger trade and others were updated the very next day. Stay on topic, the continue lies and false advertising from the folks at EA has absolutely nothing to do with 2k.

Still no trade deadline rosters.

BTW for anyone wanting to sell this, the trade in value is basically nothing. I got offered $12.

Very annoyed. If I'd known the "big patch" was going to be a slight graphic tweak and the hourly updates would be about one half hearted effort every 3 or so weeks I would have sold this months ago.

What's disappointing is the Live Season challenges have the updated rosters but the actual game roster is not updated.

Wait, they still haven't done a trade deadline update?

Wow man

Wow is the right word. Just checked now and Danny Granger is still on the Pacers, no trade deadline day deals in. Kind of comical at this point. These guys have given up. I think O'Brien is going to reword his original words as per below:
