NBA Live 14 Roster Updates Not Living up to Promises

The last time NBA Live 14's roster was updated, Stephen Jackson had just signed with the Los Angeles Clippers and Rudy Gay had been dealt to the Sacramento Kings in a massive 7-player trade.

Since December 10, almost a dozen different transactions have occurred in the NBA, including Captain Jack's departure from Lob City. None of those moves, unfortunately, are currently reflected in NBA Live 14.

Significant injuries, such as Kobe Bryant's fractured knee, Brook Lopez' broken right foot and Al Horford's pectoral tear, also are not presently represented in NBA Live 14.

None of this would be an issue if gamers were allowed to edit NBA Live 14's rosters and make the changes themselves, but by design, the game prohibits all 400-plus NBA players from being edited or traded.

The sudden, early-December halt to roster updates contradicts the gameplan NBA Live 14 had laid out at June's Electronic Entertainment Expo and continued selling to consumers, all the way up to the game's November release:

Quote:
"I want NBA Live to be relevant to the NBA fan throughout the entire NBA season, providing data and content updates that keep your gaming experience fresh and in lockstep with everything that's going on in the real world NBA...I'm really excited about being able to update our game within an hour of something happening in the NBA. We're going to be making an enormous investment into this connected experience."

"Our connected experience doesn’t stop at player ratings – data will also affects the way each player looks. If Derrick Rose drops a new colorway for his sneakers during the season, the new kicks will be updated in NBA LIVE 14. No waiting for a roster update, no special patch, just another piece that gets automatically updated each day. Same goes for new accessories or gear, even haircuts. Anytime an NBA player changes up his look NBA LIVE 14 will be there to make him look right in-game."

EA Sports Press Release
November 6, 2003

Over the past two months, being an NBA Live fan has become about as difficult as being a Brooklyn Nets fan. A new coach, rebuilt lineup and state-of-the-art arena all generated preseason optimism. Injuries, poor on-court performance and questionable leadership have since squashed any enthusiasm.

Unfortunately for NBA Live 14, the lineup of launch games it's competing against is significantly stronger than the 2013-2014 Atlantic division.

And unlike the real NBA, there will be no magic lottery balls coming to save this rapidly dwindling franchise, its only hope is in turning its fortunes around with hard work and kept promises.

Does the lack of roster updates in NBA Live 14 bother you?

If roster updates "coming in hot" takes 3 days (and counting) I am guessing we can assume "daily" means a month from now..

That seems only reasonable. And that patch "early in the year" will probably come in March.

The Roster issues is my only issue with the game. Stuckey does not start for the Pistons.

You all know you can change the lineups before starting your match.

Should be done for us but it's a 10sec fix for now.

More than that if you have to adjust the CPU's...not a huge deal but some of the roster moves are kind if odd..

Glad they've picked it up though....

Whats sad about this is that OS had to write a article on this for EA Sports in the first place, roster updates should be critical to a sports game especially one that boasts they will update everything daily SMH

Your serious about adjusting rosters yourself....before a game...to remove injured players???

You can adjust the lineups and play with minutes also(very very little). You can remove injured players and set your six man if you want.

Before start the tip off, adjust your lineup. Back out to the jersey select team, switch over to cpu team. Adjust cpu lineup. Just back up and select your team again and start game.

Quick example. Pistons have Stuckey starting and Pope coming off the bench. If you swap players, Pope will start and play roughly 20-25 minutes and Stuckey will come off the bench and play 30ish minutes.

But if I did the same with Lakers and put Kobe in the starting lineup, he would play 35-40 minutes. The game slightly adjust minutes for the players in the lineup.

I always bring Granger off the bench. Stevenson plays about 30 minutes and Granger also. George(assuming) is labeled star player so he plays about 40ish minutes.

Live has teams running atleast 10 players deep. Really depends on team.

Latest roster I got seems accurate. Deng is starting on the CAVS... Why are some players like Rose still on the Bulls though? Yet Chandler (who is hurt) is not on knicks roster...

Has anyone noticed any ratings changes to the players since the game shipped? I can't recognize any, just by giving the roster a quick glance through.

Marco Belinelli, for example, is still stuck with the same 75 three point rating he had on launch day, despite shooting 45% from behind the arc this year.

That's 1 percent above Jose Calderon, who's rated a 91 from three in Live 14, and just 1 percent below Kyle Korver, who's rated a 92.

Hourly updates LOL!

Hadn't noticed any ratings changes, and being that it took half a season to get rotations right, I'm not expecting any....

After comparing the release day roster to what we have right now, here are the ratings changes that I saw, just looking at the top 8 players for each team:

Pierce (BRK) -- 85 overall to 84 overall
Rose (CHI) -- 89 overall to 87 overall
Bennett (CLE) -- 75 overall to 74 overall
Beverly (HOU) -- 71 overall to 75 overall
Harden (HOU) -- 87 overall to 89 overall
George (IND) -- 88 overall to 90 overall
Wade (MIA) -- 88 overall to 87 overall
Farmar (LAL) -- 74 overall to 73 overall
Young (LAL) -- 76 overall to 78 overall
Nash (LAL) -- 82 overall to 81 overall
Anderson (NO) -- 78 overall to 80 overall
Davis (NO) -- 80 overall to 83 overall
Smith (NY) -- 80 overall to 79 overall
Stoudemire (NY) -- 80 overall to 77 overall
Lamb (OK) -- 82 overall to 81 overall
Afflalo (ORL) -- 81 overall to 83 overall
Carter-Williams (PHI) -- 77 overall to 80 overall
Bledsoe (PHX) -- 82 overall to 85 overall
So roughly half the league (16 teams) has had no significant ratings adjustments since release day.
