The Falcons will be kicking themselves over this one, should they miss out on a conference championship by a game, as they thoroughly out-played NIU, but couldn't finish the job, losing at home by the score of 20-17.

The BG running game continued to dominate, rushing for nearly 200 yards, but the offense repeatedly went cold in the red zone, twice having to settle for field goals. Phillip Rush and the BG passing game never found a good rhythm, as the SR finished with just over 50% passing, 200 yards, 0 TDs and 1 Int.

NIU Freshman QB deserves a purple heart after this game. With an offensive line missing 3 starters he was routinely harassed, taking 5 sacks and hit way more than that, but he completed 24/31 for 264 yards.

For NIU, they get a much needed bye week next week, hopefully with a chance to recover from some tough injury luck.

Bowling Green will need to recover from this one quickly as they have another tough MAC matchup next week, hosting Easter Michigan.

The Falcons looks to extend their winning streak to 3 games as they hose the Northern Illinois Huskies on Saturday. NIU comes in struggling, they're 1-5 (0-2 in MAC) and have lost 3 straight. And to make matters worse, they have been hit hard by injuries. One of their best WRs, Cam Thompson, is out and they'll be down 3 starters on the offensive line. The Falcons need to look at this week as an opportunity to really get on a roll and make the rest of the conference aware that they are fully back on track.

Chaos reigned during week 6 as an absurd 11 Top 25 Teams lost this week. And while some of those losses were to fellow Top 25 Teams, there were some major upsets. The #3 Penn State Nittany Lions lost at Utah by the score of 31-13, and lost starting HB Cam Wallace for at least a month due to a dislocated hip.

We also saw #11 Syracuse lose to unraked UVA and the #13 Michigan Wolverines lose to Oklahoma St.

Oklahoma shocked #7 Texas in the Red River shootout by the score of 13-7. But the biggest statement of the week came from the Georgia Bulldogs as they beat the #6 LSU Tigers 33-26, with CB Daniel Harris being the player of the game with his big pick 6 late to win it.

The offensive player of the week was Elic Ayomanor, WR - Clemson. In their 52-21 win @ FSU he had 14 receptions for 202 yards and 3 TDs.

The defensive player of the week was Alijah Williams, OLB - Bowling Green. In their 38-23 win over Ohio he had 9 tackles, 1 sack, 1 FF and 1 FR.

The Falcons opened MAC play looking like the team many thought they would like like all season. Gone was the plodding, erratic running game we saw against Louisville, instead it was replaced by a methodical machine capable of picking up 5 yards per carry and always threatening much more as BGSU took care of Ohio Thursday night by the score of 38-23.

Nakai Amachree, the Sophomore from Jackson, MI was the player of the game, rushing 21 times for 136 yards while also hauling in 5 receptions for 147 more yards.

QB Phillip Rush had his best game of the season, completing 74% of his passes for 357 yards and 3 TDs.

Ohio was led by Rickey Hunt Jr., the JR HB from Oklahoma City finished with 149 yards and a TD on 20 carries.

Bowling Green moves to 1-0 in MAC play, while Ohio falls to 2-2 in the MAC, 4-3 overall. Next week Ohio hops back out of conference play and takes a trip to Eugene, Oregon to face the top ranked Ducks, while the Falcons stay home and take on the Northern Illinois Huskies.

Bowling Green opens up MAC play this week with Thursday night MACtion against the Ohio Bobcats. BG comes off their first win of the season over UMASS, while Ohio is sitting at 4-2, already 2-1 in the MAC, and fresh off of a 23-10 win at Buffalo.

Ohio is currently bitten by the injury bug as they'll be missing starting Center Kam Wright, starting RT Jarian Shelby, DE Austin Mitchell, starting OLB Michael Molnar and starting CB Jalen Davey.

However, they're still a team to be reckoned with, they lead the MAC in total offense and Points per game with nearly 30. QB Callum Wither leads the MAC in passing yards and TDs with 14, and has only 1 interception. HB Rickey Hunt leads the conference in rush yards with 518 and is averaging just under 6 yards per carry. On the defensive side, CB Tony Mathis has been a ballhawk, with 3 interceptions on the year already.

As most teams get ready for conference player, a lot of the AP Top 25 were either on bye, or were playing lesser opponents, but that doesn't mean there was shortage of action around the county. In the national Game of The Week, Colorado showed they were for real, as they defended home turf against the Michigan Wolverines, by the score of 35-30. Star HB Micah Welch ran 13 times for 83 yards and a TD in the win.

Texas completely crushed #18 Ole Miss 34-0. Texas A&M defeated the Tennessee Volunteers in their SEC opener. And in the biggest upsets of the week, UNC blew out the 10th ranked Virginia Tech Hokies. The rest of the top 25 results can be found below.

The Bowling Green Falcons finally got their first win of the season, narrowly avoiding a disastrous 0-4 start to the season, with a 38-34, come from behind victory.

Nakai Amachree scampered home from 2 yards out with a little over one minute remaining to cap off a furious 10 point comeback and the Falcons defense held the Minuteman to no yards on their final drive to clinch the victory.

Things started out looking easy for the Falcons, jumping out to a 14-3 first quarter lead, but a bad interception, a big kick return and a few deep passes were all it took for UMass to take control early in the 4th quarter. Thankfully, the BG offense snapped out of their early season malaise, rushing for over 200 yards and taking control late.

In more sour news, the Falcons did suffer two injuries in this one. Starting C Julian Henderson suffered a torn labrum and will miss about a month, and back up SS D'Kyah Banks suffered a dislocated ankle and will possibly miss the rest of the season.

For Umass, they fall to 2-4, while Bowling Green gets a key non-conference win just prior to starting their MAC campaign next Thursday.

This week the Bowling Green Falcons wrap up the non-conference part of their schedule, which has been very disappoint up to this point, with winnable matchup, at home, against the UMass Minuteman.

UMass comes in with a 2-3 record, with wins against FCS Northwest and last week, MAC team Northern Illinois.

While this game should be one that Bowling Green has the talent to win, it's by no means automatic. Between BGSU's erratic play so far, and the talent on UMass, led by HB CJ Hester, CB Jerrod Cameron and dual threat QB Ahmad Haston, there are many ways BGSU can lose this one.

Week 4 was a quiet one, with many of the nation's top teams either playing FCS or G5 teams, or on a bye as they prepare for conference play to truly kick in.

The game of the week was Kansas State visiting old Big 12 rival Nebraska, and the Wildcats went into Lincoln and took care of business, winning 42-21. KSU QB Avery Johnson threw for 5 TDs, Dylan Edwards ran for 117 yards and the KSU defense gave sophomore QB Daniel Kaelin all kinds of problems, forcing him into 3 interceptions, 4 sacks and just over 55% completions. With Bowling Green on a bye this week, now is a good time to look at the current race for the Heisman Trophy. As usual, it is dominated by QBs and WRs. One fun story to follow is that of QB Alonza Barnett III from North Carolina. Alonza transferred to UNC after two fantastic years at James Madison, where he threw for a combined 47 TDs to only 8 Ints. The former 4 star recruit out of Whitsett, NC is making the most out of his chance to play for his childhood team.
