CINCINNATI-- It took five innings before the Reds could put a tally on the board in Monday's Opening Day game before rallying to a 4-3 victory over the Angels.
Reds ace Johnny Cueto (0-0, 3.00) got the nod in the Opening Day affair in his first game against the Halos since coming to the big leagues.
A bloop single by Angels second basemen Howie Kendrick allowed Albert Pujols to score to give them a 1-0 in the fourth.
A 3-2 changeup to young stud Mike Trout seemingly was Cueto's only bad pitch the enitre six innings of work, as Trout connected for his first home run of the year and gave the Angels a 3-0 going into the sixth.
Jared Weaver (0-0, 2.57) had it on cruise control allowing only one hit going into the 5th inning with the Angels out to a 3-0;a single by Red's shortstop Zack Cozart in the 3rd.
In the bottom of the 5th Cozart will get the Reds second hit of the game and the first run on a two out solo home run to left field. Cutting the Halos lead to 3-1.
Ryan Ludwick repeated what Cozart did in the 5th later in the 7th with a solo home run to bring Los Angeles' lead within one.
The Reds bullpen was lights out following Cueto's sub-par outing. Combining for 3 innings of work, allowing no runs on only two hits.
"Our bullpen really kept us in this game," Reds Manager Dusty Baker said following the game. "They were able to set down their big sluggers and it allowed us to at least try to come back."
Brandon Phillips two-run double to left field off Angels left-handed reliever Scott Downs game the Reds a 4-3, and a lead that they would be able to keep intact.
Aroldis Chapman picked up his first save of the young season by pitching a 1-2-3 9th inning.

CINCINNATI-- After a disappointing end to the 2012 season, Dusty Baker and the Reds look to put the past behind them and look forward to the 2013 campaign.
With Opening Day fast approaching, the Reds look built for an even more impressive year than what they accomplished just a season ago, and look to be one of the favorites in the National League in 2013.
"After going out like we did last year, its hard to put it in our rear view but we have to look forward and keep going,"said Reds outfielder Jay Bruce following a Reds Spring Training game on Saturday.
In 2012, Cincinnati struggled to find a successful lead-off hitter, which really effected their offense. Reds leadoff hitters had a .254 on-base percentage which was last in the majors. Shortly after the season's end.
Walt Jocketty made it clear that a leadoff hitter was his top priority in the off-season. With this Jocketty brought over right-fielder Shin-Soo Choo from the Cleveland Indians in a three team deal. Choo has a .384 on-base percentage in his last five season in the majors, and is clearly an upgrade to the Reds lineup.
"We feel like we haven taken a great step in building a team that can compete with any team in the league, and perhaps can make a run deep in October," said Jocketty after the trade in December.
With the addition of Choo, and the veteran mix of Brandon Phillips , Jay Bruce , and Joey Votto , does Cincinnati have what it takes to bring home their first World Series trophy in over twenty-two years? Or will the Reds show the baseball world once again they are just not built for the playoffs?

Cincinnati, OH--- When the Reds are looking for a win, there is no one they would rather turn to than Mat Latos. On Tuesday night the Reds looked to even up the series against the Tribe, and looked to go ten games over .500 for the second time this year. The Redlegs struck for 2 early runs against right-hander veteran Derek Lowe (4-4, 4.53) and did not look back. Todd Frazier delivered a 2-run home run in the 6th to give the Reds a 6-0. The only trouble Latos got into was in the 6th, when he gave up 2 runs; the only runs he allowed. In the 8th, Ryan Ludwick hit a 384 ft. bomb to left field to add on more insurance runs. "Its good to see Luddy and Fraz stepping up. That homer by Frazier was huge," said skipper Dusty Baker. The Reds went on to win 7-2, as Mat Latos pitched his first of the season, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits and striking out 3. "I felt good. They were swinging early in the count and it helped me go longer in the game," said Latos following his eighth win of the year. The Reds will look to win the Ohio Cup, as they play Cleveland for one last time in the 2012 season. Homer Bailey (6-3, 3.64) will take the hill for Cincinnati to face Ubaldo Jimenez (7-5, 4.27). The first pitch is set for 7:10.

Cincinnati, OH--- After a sub-par .500 record in the month of May, the Reds continue to win in June. " I left his a cutter up too high that didn't cut," said Leake following the game. The game would continue in the 13th inning. With two outs in the 13th, Chris Heisey drove a Jeremy Accardo fastball into the left field seats; sending the Reds fans home happy with a 2-1 victory over their in-state rivals. Cincinnati, OH--- It only took one inning for the Reds to top off the Tigers for the second consecutive days. After trailing 4-0 in the 2nd inning, the Reds came back with a little offensive of their own. Drew Smyly ( 6.92, 4-5) struck out the first 3 of the four batters he faced but in the 2nd, Cincinnati made him pay; touching him up for 11 runs on 9 hits in just 1.1 innings." I've never seen anything like it," said Dusty Baker following the 11-4 win on Saturday. The Reds have only scored double digit runs twice in the 2012 season, both coming against St. Louis on April 9th and 10th. "To score that many runs after they put up 4 on us early was huge," said Jay Bruce who connected on a grand slam in the 2nd inning of the Reds win. Homer Bailey couldn't find his stuff in the 2nd and gave up 4 runs on 5 hits in the 2nd, and it looked like it was going to be a bullpen game for the Reds. Bailey managed to get through the 6th, thanks to the Reds productive offense. Justin Verlander ( 3.28, 5-5) will try to stop the Reds offense on Sunday, as the Tigers look to avoid the sweep. Johnny Cueto ( 2.56, 3-4) will take the mound as he looks to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to Pittsburgh in his last outing. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10, first 10,000 fans will receive a Brandon Phillips bobble-head..

Cincinnati, OH---On a night where Mat Latos had the stuff to earn his 8th win of the year, the Reds bullpen bailed him out and helped the Redlegs escape game one of the three game interleague series with Detroit. Down 1-0 in the 5th, Joey Votto came through with a 2 out single to score the Reds first run of the game, to tie things at one a piece. Ryan Hanigan walked on 4 straight balls in the 7th for a lead off walk; followed by a double by pinch-hitter Todd Frazier. With two on and no one out, Zack Cozart delivered with a 2 run single that put the Reds on top for good as the Reds won 3-1 in a pitching duel. Homer Bailey ( 4-3, 3.08) will take the hill for the Reds on Saturday against rookie right hander, Drew Smyly (5.51, 3-3). The first pitch is scheduled for 4:10.

Cincinnati, OH--- After coming off of a tough 2-1 on Tuesday night against the Pirates, Mike Leake decided to take things in his own hands. With a 3-5 record, Leake pitched the Reds first complete game shut out of the year. In his last two outings; which both come against Pittsburgh, he has not given up a run, and has allowed 11 hits in the two starts, striking out 9 and walking 4 batters. " I haven't been pitching up to my potential so far this year, but I'm starting to find my stuff," said Leake following an interview after his big win. Leake has dropped his ERA from 5.71 to 4.43 in his last three starts, as he seems he is finding his rhythm.
