I have been sick of the flopping since Vlade Divac. The NBA has become La Liga, for crying out loud. It really takes away from the beauty of the game as you are having stoppages every 30 seconds for fouls. I heard a good discussion on this yesterday and one of the guys said the NBA needs to look to the NHL on how to curtail this kind of behavior. The NHL put the foot down on diving and now you can get a game misconduct penalty if caught. The NBA should do the same - make it a technical foul and if a guy gets 5 technicals for flopping he gets suspended one game or something.

this is why i write these. not all of us are dumb misguided fans. i love to see constructive arguments, and to see peoples opinion. i wish i did this years ago. i was to worried about looking cool in high school. lol thanks for reading guys i appreciate you all peace.

Flopping is present in the NBA and the college level. I can't think that the NBA somehow thinks flops are good for their product. Absolutely no one likes watching flops. It's widely understood that the NBA is a money-making enterprise. The fact that they call in favor of obvious flops just shows a complete lack of business sense and incompetence. LeBron acting like he got floored by Carmelo's one arm and getting the call was just disgraceful. In my opinion the NBA should review every game and give retroactive technicals to the truly obvious flops (Tyrus Thomas, I think, and Bosh in last year's playoffs).

One thing I do like is that the refs aren't awarding as many free throws...the number of fouls per game is at a 20 year low for many teams.

I have to agree with @tril and @ironwork, I was planing on writing a blog about this and tips today but I got caught up with the playoffs. I don't think lazy is the appropriate word, I think it's not a big priority, 2k added training camp mode but it really doesn't help. If you really want to learn this game, you'll needed to play a couple of games then head towards practice mode and work on your issues. Also the point about feathering the stick is a major point. da Czar really has game saving 2k12 tips if you look for them. He is the reason why I didn't trade 2k12 in. But I think if 2k did take the time out to show and explain features and not just leave it up to us to discover, they would have a lot of happy costumers. I'm really enjoying 2k12 now, but thats only because I went to practice mode and scrimmage.

No, lack of competition destroys not just sports but all genre of video games. Lack of competition creatures complacency, I personally liked 2k12, but it didn't take the giant leap 2k11 did, 2k11 was great because of the success of nba live 10 and that EA was close to actually making a simulation basketball game. 2k12 was a really good imo but I feel that it could have used the competition from EA.

don't see flops in college, now do ya?
tril on April 28, 2012 at 10:39 PM.
2k has quality
EA has good marketing.
Quality won out. so EA has to make an above average title.
Im a 2k sports loyalist so theyll always get my support which equates to dollars. 2k would really have to release a subpar game for me to even think of jumping ship.

Ummmm, no......sorry.

NBA Live is gonna have a VERY long way to go to catch up.

flopping is here to stay, you can thank the EURO game for that!

agree with RuffnReady and Darrazz.
IMO, 2kisnt lazy at all, every few years they realeas an NBA game thats phenomenonal. in between those years, the games are still good.
In alot of ways, I personally think 2k12 was/is better than 2k11. part of the problem with folks is that
1. there wsnt no competitor to compare the game to.
2. the djustments between the 2 may have been a bit much for a lot of gamers.
Next year Im sure 2k will take the best of 2k11 and 2k12, and integrate it into the new features of 2k13.

2k has never been lazy, IMO they have listended to their customers too much. Alot of the the things people complain about in 2k12 were requested by the consumer.

2k sports has never disappointed me. if it wasnt for 2ksports, I probably wouldnt be gaming.

@shadia147 well you have me there! just had to throw the giants into the mix. i think in retrospect the situations are different. i was 6 or so when new york went over to new jersey. my uncle on long island was a jets freak. back when they where active at shea stadium. and he was PISSED!! he passed away god rest his sole. and we buried him with a broadway joe jersey under his suit lol. but for me living in BK and haveing family there, even living on long island for awhile haveing a team in brooklyn feels like home. your right spike is the bench mark for brooklyn. he is in alot of ways an ambassador for kings county. but we both know he isnt leaveing MSG. so its tough dont you wanna have that home team. i dont know. but your 100% right. i thank you for reading. hit me up anytime!

@nip83 MAN HOW DID I FORGET THE CZAR!!! yeah that guy is very insightful probably the most calculated very knowledgeable, i would love to be a part of his team either eriting tips or blogs. how could i forget him? but still in all i think the guys i have mentioned are very respected in there own right. here i am trying to make a name for myself as well. i never forget the people who came before me. something i also learn in the army. thanks for reading

What I think the license issue comes down to is that the NFL is so big it doesn't care about the product that EA puts out. Where the Nba and other sports do care cause they have smaller fan bases and need the advisertising. The reason I watch the NBA is because of NBA2k. If I had to use Madden as a reason, I would use it not watch the NFL.
nip83 on April 28, 2012 at 09:11 AM.
You forgot about the Czar, this guy has helped a ton when it comes to running an offense and understanding how the game works.

It's the same thing every year, around march you get to see new animations, guys labbing "hidden" moves and such.2k never explains things even at a fundamental level like the impact of feathering the sticks on movement,or how to shoot or pass at certain angles. And also how the quality of your controller's stick responsiveness also plays a big role.We are past the up down left right era of video games.

2K is not going down because of NBA Live 13. They will be just fine.

Let me ask you a rhetorical question...As a New Yorker, did you feel any less proud of the New York Giants winning the Super Bowl? Considering that they're actually in New Jersey.
You can take pride in the Nets if they ever do anything significant. Say "That's my Brooklyn!" All you want.
If you're from Brooklyn, you're still a New Yorker. Just don't trade the Knicks or the Nets for the Suns.
Phoenix is a great city. It ain't New York!
Take pride in the fact that

I totally agree with your point on the lack of tutorials. NBA 2K is so deep that for a newcomer to the game or a more casual gamer the game can be daunting. I actually wonder how many players actually utilise the numerous moves the game offers up.
RUFFNREADY on April 27, 2012 at 05:10 PM.
You should have Donnys job! Your rating settings are way better, trust me i know. (gameplay coming soon; editing stage) If the Czar doesnt fix this sooner then later, it could hurt Madden NFL 13s replay value, and i am an avid offline franchise player.

cheers

Nice write up. I to concurr with you as 2K has turned into a one trick pony, and cant afford to be equal or even level with EA in the bball franchise, as it would mean the demise of 2K.

cheers
RUFFNREADY on April 27, 2012 at 04:47 PM.
I like your insight, and to add one more thing; every giant company in this world goes through what they call a "LUL", plateau phase; and 2K maybe at that point right now, so lets hope they snap out of it quick as something is quickly moving up in the rear view mirror (NBA LIVE 13). lol, but you never know!

btw, shakedown2012, and dCoop are the best; i can and do watch those guys all day!

In my opinion 2k12 is already dumbed down from the last installment. The lack of variable difficutly lobbies is a blow to the face as well as other perks that were present in 11. It's funny that I come across this thread because me and a couple co-workers were just talking about the gameplay. Trust me, I appreciate a challenge and I am very educated about the game of basketball. Certain gameplay flaws in 2k12 make the game less than sim. To just mention a few; Passing, speed issues, CPU difficulty, steel exploit, lack of defense, and online play (difficulty finding matches, game dropping). 2k12 is a good game, but far from great. I speak on behalf of all consumers who want top quality for their money. Whatever needs to be done to produce the most for the money should be done. Perhaps with re-surfaced competition the fundamental flaws found in 2k's basketball will be addressed. Peace.
pHiLKizer on April 27, 2012 at 10:37 AM.
EA does this every year, they promise golden unicorns and we end up with bug-infested imps. New Presentation yada yada...New passing game..blah blah. When the game drops, we'll be dissecting it to atoms complaining about how it still doesn't measure up to NFL 2K5.

I'll start to care again when PS4 and Xbox 720/Loop/Next (or whatever they are going to call it) comes out to where we can TRULY expect new graphics and the possibility of new gameplay.
ironwork on April 27, 2012 at 02:14 AM.
@ shadia147 you know what, as sad as that is your 100% correct. growing up in BK i just wish we had something of our own. even queens and long island would represent BK. thanks for reading and your input.
shadia147 on April 27, 2012 at 12:24 AM.
Look, It's not 1955 anymore. The Brooklyn Dodgers are gone forever.
The Magic that was the Brooklyn Dodgers is gone forever more. That magic was the notion that they (the players) were part of the community. They worked in Brooklyn during the off season. Modern day players are anything but members of the community. That concept is long gone.

Here's what I suggest; If Spike Lee suddenly switches from the Knicks to the Nets, then I'd say there's something to this.
But unless Spike switches, I'd say stay with the Knicks because as soon as you'd switch, the Knicks are going to win a Championship. And you're going to be stuck in Brooklyn with the ever-losing Nets forever.
And BTW, I remember Willis Reed in game seven. That's how long I've followed the Knicks.
But I don't see that happening.

Okay, I'm still holding back on the optimism, but sweeping the team that's supposed to win the WS this year is pretty cool, right?

They are a few years away from being a playoff team. With Hultzen, Walker, and Paxton a year or two away. They just need to sign some free agents for the offense.
RUFFNREADY on April 26, 2012 at 12:49 PM.
I agree with you 100%; how they could have tried to pull the wool over our eyes just goes to show their credability, which i believe is on the downside right now.
Just another EA cash grab; i am soo surprise that they didnt release NBA ELITE 11, and try to make some more money off of that!
cheers

I was just talkin to a guy at work about the mariners....i think there very young and unproven i agree with you. They will get it together this season, all i want or anybody else who lives here in seattle is for us to be competitive in late july and august, not be out of the wildcard in late june. Give us some reason to keep soming to the ball park.

One thing in the podcast was on the main menu it said "Career Mode: Be a Player or Coach". Really hoping the be a coach is similar to how Dynasty works in NCAA.

you all make valid points and i really couldn't agree with you more. its really up to us as consumers to shape the direction of or favorite game. we can do this by voicing our own opinions, help each other out as much as we can. and not be so quick to listen to someone else before attempting our own resolution. myself included. thanks for all the comments and taking your time to read this.

I never said he's one of the best outfielders in the game. He's the second best fielder on the team (to Ichiro-who knows how many years are left in his tank) with good speed. What I'm suggesting is a change of scenery at the top of the lineup (Figgins won't be the Figgy of LAA ever again, at least with the M's). With Guti+Figgins at the top of the lineup, those are two table-setters that can then be proceeded with Ackley, Ichiro, Montero, Smoak... it's hard to tell at such an early stage in the season.

Unless there is a nice $20+ pre-order credit incentive from Amazon, I'll probably still be waiting for the reviews and black friday. I traded-in Madden 11 and 12 soon after getting them so I need to be convinced by the final product.

The new catch tackle thing seems cool I wonder if it's timed wrong will I get a helmet to helmet penalty… im still super excited for madden this year more than ever!
You forgot to mention the new dynamic NFL films camera angles which will make a huge difference in live cutscenes man.
Jamake1005 on April 25, 2012 at 06:19 PM.
That's the problem though. Football is number 1 sport here so everyone usually get that football itch. Then you have the great Madden Hype machine that gets you more pumped and ready and people some how forget and still run out and buy it because they have the football itch. I get it every year and it sucks because I know there is no football video game I can play. For now I'm still happy with All Pro Football 2k8. It is what it is. Oh and the cover thing is dumb just pick someone all this other stuff is not necassary.
HARTSTOPPER on April 25, 2012 at 06:11 PM.
They are going on year what, 6 with the ESPN license and we still get absolutely freaking no representation from ESPN. I'm starting to think they struck the deal with ESPN JUST so 2K couldn't use ESPN in All Pro Football or something. This is beyond ridiculous. I know NCAA has NCAA integrated into the fold (finally), what's the hold up Madden?
newefan on April 25, 2012 at 06:02 PM.
this is why i rent both games first. why don't all people do the same instead if buying it on day1 and then be mad that it's not the game they expect it to be. just wait for it to go on sale then buy it if you have that football itch.

is it me or is the madden cover thing becoming more and more like a new years eve party.they have the countdown whats next.
Eski33 on April 25, 2012 at 05:58 PM.
I watched the Podcast and I was beyond impressed. The new presentation features and the read and react defense look awesome. Simms and Nantz has to be the best sounding play-by-play in any Madden to date.
Dynastium on April 25, 2012 at 05:04 PM.
Good to see Madden taking a step in the right direction. Anything is better than Gus Johnson and Chris Collinsworth. I owuld have preferred Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, but Jim Nantz and Phil Simms is so much better than what we have.
DustinT on April 25, 2012 at 04:50 PM.
You talk about Guti like he's one of the best outfielders in the game. He's not that good. When he's playing defense he's great, but he can't hit.

Wedge's lineup is as good as it can get with the talent on the team.
MarinersVsDodgers on April 25, 2012 at 04:44 PM.
The Mariners are all about potential...they strike in short quick bursts. And they falter a lot (Humber's perfect game...yeah yeah yeah), and I agree with your consistency statement...I just feel Wedge needs to change his lineup to produce that spark.
jsquigg on April 25, 2012 at 04:16 PM.
Jim Nantz and Phil Simms are the WORST play by play team in real life (for football, Nantz is ok in other sports). They could have just implemented the broadcast sounds better with who they had. Oh well.
DJ on April 25, 2012 at 04:03 PM.
I'm glad they finally decided to make all the controls the same, seeing as how the games are developed side-by-side. With that said, Madden needs to have the Player-Lock option from NCAA for defense in its game this year.

I'm very happy the audio team has been changed. It was terrible last year.
