How Madden 11 can achieve Greatness.
Posted on January 20, 2010 at 12:49 AM.
I am just going to list ways in which I feel Madden 11 can achieve greatness:

*No More Perfect Defenses: We should not feel like we are playing against Psychics who run the pattern better the WRs....Super Jumping Skills....Super Recovery speed...and unrealistic physical mechanics that defy physics.

*Stop the Suction Tackling/Blocking: This makes the game feel very scripted....your players get sucked into tackles when they should be breaking away, D-Linemen are magically able to cover WRs who should be leaving them in the dust, there are numerous scenarios that just ruin the gameplay.

*Presentation: ESPN, CBS, NFL Network, Foxsports.....you get the idea. EA SPORTS make it happen!

*Be Consistent with the Offensive Live/Defensive Line Play: The CPU seems to get a pass in this area. They get the opportunity to blitz unrealistically, by having your linemen consistently miss blocks and/or make your linemen not be able to get around CPU blocks due to the fact you are being "held" (read sucked) into blocks no matter how you try to get around it with swim moves and the bull rush (both Non-existent in Madden)

*CPU Super Speed/excessive broken tackles has to Stop: Have you ever seen the CPU get an INT and instead of being tackled on the spot and/or run down logically they take off like a bat out of you know what!!! And what happens when its Richard Seymour covering Larry Fitzgerald and he returns the INT 45yards....UNREALISTIC!!! The CPU/USER must have REALISTIC speed according to the NFL players actual ability. And this must exist on ALL levels from Rookie to All-Madden. Borrow from NFL 2K5 if you must...but please stop with the arcade style gameplay.

*SLIDERS: More sliders must be implemented for EVERY detail of the game. And they must work accordingly. Use NBA 2K10s sliders for reference. The current sliders for Madden are ineffective. Needs an overhaul!

*Add a Myplayer Mode: The Current SuperStar Mode is broken beyond measure. Bottom Line OVERHAUL or REMOVE!

New Ways for Madden to Achieve Greatness:

*Steal NFL Fever 2004's idea for READ AND LEAD passing: This was one of the greatest passing mechanics in an NFL game that I played in a long time! It gave you great control over where to put the ball and also forced you to go through your progressions!!!

*Better Player Progression: Players should be graded game to game. If Mark Sanchez is rated a 79 Overall coming into a game, but throws 4 touchdowns 0 INTs and the TDs are to 3 different WRs....he should be rewarded for it in his rating. On the opposite end of the spectrum, if he comes into a game and pulls a Jake Delhomme and throws 6INTS and overthrows his receivers....his rating should take a hit. Same thing goes for defense. IF Derelle Revis is shutting everbody down, swatting passes, getting INTs etc....he should progress as such...pretty much like what happened in real life.

*Chemistry Ratings: If you watched the NFL playoffs, the Eagles lost their starting Center for the year. This affected everything from the snaps, to the Offensive line Chemistry. If a key player or players are injured or traded away to a new team, we should see a reflection of this. The Best offensive and defensive lines in the NFL have GREAT CHEMISTRY! They are used to playing with each other and know exactly how to compliment one another. But throw a Rookie in there against Jared Allen and see what happens....The chemistry is thrown off and your QB gets sacked 6 times....loses 2 out of 3 fumbles....takes a beating.
Essentially, a strong Chemistry Rating (I believe they have it in NBA 2K) will go a long way to showing how each member of your team is important...and how they rely on one another!

*In Game Saves: Whatever happened to this feature? It is probably one of the best features that ANY game could have, but especially Madden! For those of us who may have to "Take Care of Business" .....we would appreciate an In-Game Save option!

*Hurry Up Offense: Please stop allowing 10-15 seconds to come off the clock, when then offensive line should be in hurry up mode. Currently in Madden 10, they move like they are synchronized swimmers in water! Watch tape of a team hurrying back to the line when the game is on the line and time is running out....it is not the same as what you see in Madden 10. GET THIS RIGHT! This is a gamebreaker on many levels!!!

*Add in Blown Coverages/Assignments: Lets face it, in the NFL, Players blow coverages all the time...sometimes they bump into each other, they fall down, cover the wrong guy, play zone, when they are supposed to be in Man Coverage etc. This needs to be reflected in Madden. Not as it is in the current version, where one DB can magically cover 3 receivers by himself...The way to justify this is through each players Football IQ.

totally agree. Ncaa 11 needs alot of these same fixes too. Ea sports needs to step it up.

Seriously, for a company that has exclusive rights to make NFL games they sure dont seem to take it seriously.

This sounds good and is definitely needed, but I wonder if the reason they haven't fixed these things is that it would make offense too easy. Any QB in the league could pick apart a defense if they had an overhead camera to view it from like we do in the game. Unless there were steps taken to make offense more difficult (change camera perspective, add a throwing meter or some type of control scheme to passing where user error could come into play, etc.), you could put up 40+ points per game against a defense without these unrealistic boosts.

@Rspencer86, I do agree that they should add another QB mechanic that will make users play like an actual NFL QB. I hate when I play against somebody who takes their QB and RUNS BACKWARDS for about 10-15yds and then launches a rocket off their back foot for a TD. Madden does not penalize gamers for that yet. I would be okay if they added an advanced version of the vision cone.

rspencer86 - Yea, I was thinking the same thing. As much as I dislike how the DBs seem to "know too much" about what is happening on the offensive side of things, I think it's definitely something to counterbalance a person's potential to rip apart a D with the passing game. Somethings have to be sacrificed from a realism p.o.v. to make a video game playable even as much I would LOVE to see the eyes in the back of the head DBs go away. Remember 2K's first person cam? I used to LOVE that ish. I really felt I was in the game and I'm interested in seeing how Backbreaker comes along with their interesting cam angle.

...WAIT, I just thought of something. Maybe this is Madden 11's "new innovation"?? Imagine if they can clean up the probs with 2K's first person cam and implement their own FPC mode? Maybe that's what's coming. Plus Ian did say that he had been studying 2K5 like crazy prior Madden 10's release. Maybe they see the greatness in bringing that cam back.

I think I'm about to go play some FPC mode in 2K5, right about now. Lol.

@TreyIM2, lofeazy: I definitely agree that something has to be sacrificed! I think that the passing needs to be more complicated and not so easy (unless its in FAMILY MODE) as pressing one button.

@TreyIM2...i am going to play some 2K when I get home!!! Just for FPC mode!

@dS v3noM: I definitely miss the QB vision! I wish we still had it as part of the game.....or some semblance of it.

I never played NFL Fever (didnt have an xbox back then), so how did the passing mechanic work?

# 12 DISKO82 @ Jan 21
1st- fix the running animation, make the players should look like they are running as fast as they can!!!!

2nd- give the players some freaking momentum, people cant just turn like robots, things like cutting around corners take time!!!!

3rd- make the hits make gamers say, "oh ****" in the NFL every play looks like a possible injury!!!

4th- put the damn franchise mode from madden 07 in please- make it deeper, give the players personalities like nba 2k10, make em demand trades, cuase problem in the locker room, dislike the coach, get suspended, miss practice shoot themselves in the foot @ the club, fight dogs!! and put highlights and transactions in the extra point!!!!

I actually love madden 10, its not that bad of a game, it has problems that are silly, but its a great football game, and i waited to buy it because i believed what everybody else was saying about it, i bought it and love it

# 13 bigsmallwood @ Jan 21
@xblake16x: In NFL Fever 2004, you would press the button for the receiver, and a small cross-hair thing would appear by them, you could move that to where you wanted to throw the ball then you would pull the right trigger to complete the pass. They had it where you could use it 3-4 different ways! IT was great innovation!
