NFL 2K5 Obliterates Madden 13...and all others
Posted on September 2, 2012 at 08:36 PM.
I'll keep this short and sweet. After spending an extensive amount of time with Madden13 and having played all others, including my favorite Maddens 2005/06, I have come to the conclusion that Madden just doesn't hold a candle to NFL 2K5.

2K5 has now been given the title in my book as the best NFL simulation game of all-time. The level of detail in this game is STILL incredible! The Franchise mode is FAR and away better the Connected Careers (which is a great idea in theory but lacking in execution, presentation is better than any sports game out today, the "physics" of NFL 2K5 OBLITERATE Madden 13's Infinity Engine, which contrary to it's ad campaign, does provide plays that look and feel the same quite often.

The amount of user control on the field is amazing and the spot on commentary is just even more to celebrate.

Each team plays DIFFERENTLY...each QB feels different...each running back....well you get the point...

I could go into explicit detail about each mode or gameplay elements that are still surprising or how much more enjoyable the franchise mode is in 2K5...or how VIP is still something EA has had an answer for....

It is clear that EA Sports is aiming to get gamers wallets rather than your hearts....

2K5...will own your soul...bottom line. I've written numerous blogs on it...I loved Madden when it was great....but Madden does not stand up to a game 8years old...nor is it as deep....nor is it as refreshing...only the graphics in Madden are better.....

2K5 FOREVER.

The best to EA Sports and their repeated 3 year plans and their loyal fans....even the blind ones.

I never played 2k5 but it looked sweet with its ESPN presentation. Yeah Madden still have a long way to go, but as it has been said before, madden isn't going away. and 2ksports isn't going to be coming back. nuff said.

I agree. 2k5 just did it right. For those that said its time to let it go, just dont get it. I bet if you put better graphics on 2k5 with no gameplay improvements, those same folks would be hailing that its the best football game of all time.
2k5 has some exploits, as does madden.
In addition, 2k5 had a good amount of sliders. The graphics are still pretty good, and player movement still hold up against Madden.

Madden 13 is good though but its still not 2k5.

NFL 2k5 was definitely a favorite of mine.

2005 was the best year for football games. 2k5 was amazing (especially at $20) and Madden 05 was the best all around game in its history (I was a big fan of both the practice game plans and the weekly radio show. EA is content to see how much $ they can get on initial sales and the NFL is content signing exclusivity agreements. It would likely do so with 2K. EA and the NFL/NFLPA are both the "bad guys" here.

p.s., the crib/VIP, Berman's halftime and post game analysis, and the physics and feel of the game were all AWESOME. It is as if EA doesn't even try to be great in those ways.

Infinity isn't bad but the replays are excessive and gratuitous.

My advice for EA is as follows: If you wish to maximize your market-share, offer as much customize-ability and user-control as possible. We are a diverse market and we enjoy different aspects of the football gaming experience. If you give us a sufficiently broad canvas on which to work, we can create our own individual awesome gaming experiences.

So right about fran. mode, it's far superior to Madden's but the physics does look better for Madden, however what would NFL 2k13 have looked like? Lets say the NFL does renew, 2k should do something with the NCAA! that will bring EA the MUCH needed competition we the sports gamers need in order to have a product that resembles the game we all love. I always hear how 1 year isn't enough time to make any significant improvements, well they've had 9 yrs and their effort, what little there has been, has produced jack. I hate how people tell me that competition wouldn't matter and the license is no problem and EA devotes the same amount of time and resources they would've if there had been competition.. B.S! North America accounts for 27% of EA's profit (A large percentage of the 27 is from Madden).. That is why FIFA and NHL have seen such innovation b/c they sell to the largest percentage. Not a lot of Germans play American Football I wager, so don't tell me the license wouldn't effect the amount of effort going in to make Madden, I mean enough is enough, do the math. I don't care if 2k makes an NCAA game or Ubisoft as long as an American Football game is produced by someone who will do the best job they possibly can.. Once again I say, nice to see Madden is back on track, too bad our current consoles are almost outta track!

CoachEspy: I couldn't have said it better!

Cmidd: Yes! They have wasted year after year only for us to still be in a 3 year plan/next year mode. Enough is enough. Bring on competition that is formidable again.

Amen to that

ByronYatch: Outside of CC allowing the gamer a chance to switch from player to coach without missing a beat...what else does it do that is revolutionary? Madden 13 is missing SO much more than presentation. It's a solid Madden title, but the Infinity Engine does not produce consistent results. The tackles are more like blitz than actual NFL gameplay. I'm not a fanboy of anything but sports, but I can go line for line and Madden doesn't touch 2K5 outside of graphics.

CC aka franchise mode has taken a step backwards and is chock full of bugs. In keeping with tradition, EA unapologetically has removed more user control and other key features from the game. Madden is not ready for prime time.

Even though I'm finally having some fun with Madden 13... it's still a big disappointment. The biggest problem when it comes to Madden vs 2k5, is that bye now.... we shouldn't be having these talks, blogs, opinions.

Bye now Madden should be so far ahead of 2k5, that there could be no turning back.and playing, nor thinking about NFL2k5... this is the problem.

Lol@ THEREALHST, that may be sound advice for the rest of this gen. I will continue to read about it though. This is my last 2K5 v Madden blog. IF Madden ever does surpass 2K, I'll be the first to acknowledge it. #Peacefam

Meh, I always thought the running/juking was really boring in 2k, and the passing seemed floaty to me. It was a good game for the time, but I actually preferred Madden 05, and I think it's quite a stretch to say that NFL 2k5 is currently a better game than Madden 13. The physics were better in 2k5? C'mon man!

I just played CC in Madden 13. My team (Browns) were losing by 2 points AFTER recovering the on-side kick with 49 sec left. The coach then proceeds to call the following plays: slip screen, sweep, sweep, HB dive. This is the 4th consecutive game we've lost b/c of awful crunch-time playcalling. FTG!!!

# 28 bigsmallwood @ Sep 5
@Teemo: I feel your pain! The play-calling is hurting my eyes

@DBMcGee3: I will concede that Madden 2005 was in my opinion THE BEST Madden game there is on any gen console....however just because EA says "we have physics" in M13, doesn't mean that it is implemented as well as people want to think. There are sparkling moments that will make you say wow....but sadly far too many others that are not only headscratchers, but moments that show huge legacy issues.

Um. Who let's the coach call plays when your playing. Who does that.

Are you a recluse.

Madden is for competition. It's not for playing the computer. Is that the reason you guys love 2k5. Since I never played the AI the game to me was mediocre at best. Is that the greatness of it. Because playing against a real person 2k5 was nothing special.

My squad and I actually played Madden that year on the PS. Even though we all had Dreamcast's because we had leagues in 2k.

NFL2k5 is the most overrated game in Sports gaming history.

When I hear people talk about the presentation I LOL.

Who cares. I'm here to play football. I would rather play with the announcers off because I want to feel like I'm on the field.

I agree that the physics in M13 aren't perfect, but clearly they're better than 2k5 or Backbreaker. Not really sure how one could argue differently, especially after I just youtubed some gameplay of both those games. Night and day to me but to each his own.
