CFL 2k17?
Posted on June 27, 2015 at 10:48 PM.
The NBA season ended and instantly we were all reminded of how long it's going to be until college football and the NFL seasons. I have good news for you all. ESPN is airing CFL games! Even with the different rules It's still good football. This got me thinking. EA has the NFL license locked up for the foreseeable future. But could 2K use the CFL license and make a great football game? Off the top of my head there are 2 big pluses. First there'd be a 2nd football game option. And secondly there'd be a sports game released right at the start off the summer, because from what I understand the season started on the 26th on June. So here's my question: Would you pay for CFL 2k17? One reminder there's real teams, real cities, real stadiums, and most importantly real players. Some are college stars who were good just not NFL good.

I would love it but there would not be enough of a demand that would support EA or 2K to invest. That's why Arena Football didn't continue.

Sports games are seriously lacking tbh.. Its either 2K for NBA or EA for NFL, i miss the competition between the two
No college sports(basketball, football, baseball)
No arena football
No CFL

not enough demand for the CFL game in the states. if 2 k is going to invest ina football game, they might as well make another APF2k game with a franchise mode and generic players

Nice post Balljonesjr. I've been waiting for a CFL video game for oh about a couple of decades now but it never seems to happen. The previous CFL commissioner even said at one point that it was one of his priorities to make that happen but obviously it hasn't. I think he realized just how important it is for the popularity of the league to have such a thing, but in the end it all comes down to whether or not the developers can make money at it and I wouldn't expect a CFL game to sell very well beyond Canada.

@Pythons80 But how is $ a problem if it would sell well in Canada? In addition, people who have been waiting for an alternative football game to Madden and still feel strongly about 2k football would try a CFL 2k game in the states. Surely, it would be quality, which will grow its popularity in the states and in turn grow CFL popularity. I don't think $ is the issue. I think, for 2k, the problem is if they did this and the game got big, NFL relations would sour definitely. I doubt the NFL would be like, oh 2k has a better game so let's leave EA. If 2k goes with the CFL for a game, they're probably going to be struck with them. As a consumer, I wouldn't care because I'm positive we'd get a mich better football game but 2k is probably holding out in hopes to bid for the NFL license at some point.

I'd rather see the CFL included on the NFL MADDEN games. I wouldn't buy another football game even as aCanadian. I would probably play the CFL features a bit if it were included on Madden, but if still mainly just play connected careers mode with my Seattle Seahawks.

AFL would be awesome too

2k could definitely do wonderful things with the AFL.

The NFL Madden games should include the CFL, American & Canadian College football too! This would add so much more depth to the game!!

Go Seattle Seahawks Go, Go BC LIONS GO!

@Bxphenom7 @Pythons80 not factoring in the $$$ issue, I couldn't see why a CFL game by 2k wouldn't work. But the whole burning of the NFL bridge is a point I didn't think of. So I can see why holding out on any other licensed football could hurt 2ks chances. And by ESPN showing games on Friday nights I could see the league gaining a little popularity. So the CFL Commissioner is on the right path. As far as AFL it's just so hard for me to get into it, which also shows why CFL would potentially fail. As popular as football is they are both niche sports. Both which are less popular than other niche sports like MMA, boxing, and golf. Too small of a market I guess. The dog days of summer continues.

@Canuckle17 the idea is to have another football game outside of an EA based game. We all love Madden. But do we love it because it's good to us, or because it's the only thing we have to love? (In football gaming)

I wish 2k would make a CFL game. I'd be all over it and I don't even watch thr CFL. Might start if the games are on ESPN.

I'm not so sure 2k would be worried about burning any bridges so to speak with the NFL. The two leagues are in no way adversaries. In fact, the way the two leagues have approached business relations with each other in recent years has been as partners. The NFL is mainly concerned with growing the game of football - be it Arena League, Canadian League etc. - in a long term strategy to make football the worlds biggest sport. This is also why the NFL is playing games in Europe now. So I really cannot see the NFL getting upset at 2k putting out a CFL game to rival Madden; They may even welcome it.
