All you need to apply for a coaching position is the ability to "chuck the pigskin," own a Sega Genesis and PS2, and have some serious PowerPoint skills. It's safe to say that we all appreciate this guy's effort.

Quote:
My football philosophy is basically an attacking one. We're going to give AIR RAID a whole new definition. Theoretically how many times do you think a team can pass in a game? Challenge accepted. We're going 5 wide, chucking the pigskin all over the place. Never punt. Onside every time. Chip Kelly will be calling me to learn my offense. We will put on an exciting brand of football, we will pack them into the Alerus Center night in and night out, go ahead and blow the roof off the place and add about 35,000 seats to that place. - Deadspin

Next-gen basketball is here, to (mostly) good results.

It’s tough to have any expectations coming into this new generation of consoles. Seven years ago we all had high expectations, and for sports gamers, it turned out to be arguably the biggest let down in the history of sports gaming. But this time it truly is different.

NBA 2K14, with its flaws, is ushering in a new generation of sports games.

But even more importantly, a sports game – yes, a sports game – is ushering the entire generation with graphics that can truly be considered next-gen. But a game isn’t defined by only what you see, as NBA 2K14 is also quick to let you know.

At first glance, I fell in love with NBA 2K14. The graphics are golden, the gameplay is near identical to a fantastic current-gen release, and My GM has all of the potential in the world. Safe to say, the hype seems well worth it and necessary for 2K's first next-gen conquest.

I say near identical for a few reasons. During gameplay, a lot of classic 2K bugs have resurfaced. Players are morphing into one another; Ray Allen is standing out of bounds in the corner and won't move; passing turns the ball over more than it should (this may be more of a realism factor than anything, so don't freak out yet).

These issues can be a game-killer, but 2K fixed all of these problems in the past so I fully expect them to fix these in the coming months with a series of patches, especially after they told me they are currently working on the game's second patch. No timetable for the release of the patch as of yet, though.

Ever since Hypegate, the NBA community has been dying to get their hands on the next-gen NBA 2K14. Well, we're finally here on Opening Weekend and know for an absolute fact: those graphics are worth every minute of the hype. And not it's not just the graphics; NBA 2K14 plays as good, if not better, than the current gen game.

Before we get into all of the grits and detail in our review coming out this week, here are a few quick-hitting points that I saw with my first few hours of playing NBA 2K14.

It’s tough to peg when 2K Sports took off with its NBA 2K franchise. Everyone remembers 2K11 which became an instant classic. It touched on every NBA fan out there by adding historic teams through the ages, and of course the one and only Michael Jordan.

But that wasn’t the NBA 2K game that earned the highest grade from Operation Sports. That title belongs to NBA 2K7, just another title in the series, right? Wrong.

Do you still have this game on your shelf? Read on to find out why you should give it a go again for nostalgia purposes.

Madden NFL Arcade

Throughout generations comes the good and bad. With the good, we get games that become priceless; games we would never want to trade in or throw away. But with those games comes the bad and the very bad. And with our focus on indie and arcade games this week during Oktoberfest, the bad brings us all the way back to Madden NFL Arcade.

The two EA football titles both offer something a little different from one another. Here's our take.
EA Football this year saw modest gains with both NCAA Football 14 and Madden NFL 25 on current generation consoles. The Infinity Engine 2.0 was implemented into both games, giving them the most advanced physics in a football game ever -- and the line play was reworked for both titles to make room for new run game controls.

Each year we do several of these grudge matches to see which games are more worthy of a purchase, especially for those who still haven't bought them. Both Madden and NCAA have been out for a good bit, so now is a good time to give both the 'Grudge Match' treatment.

The format is simple, we will go through several categories and match the games up head to head. The winning game will find more 'wins' at the end of the article. Let's find out which football game is this year's best!

November 15 can’t get here soon enough. Next-gen NBA 2K14 is one of the most highly-anticipated games I’ve ever been dying to get my hands on. But technically October 1 is our first taste of 2K14, and we just got a new current-gen trailer to show you. Let’s check out the new trailer together for the first time.

00:13 – I promise (to win not one, not two, not three…).
00:15 – Welcome back, King.
00:21 – Enter the NBA2K14 official logo followed by LeBron breaking away from the Clippers and enjoying one of his signature slams. Looks a tad bit smoother than NBA2K13. Nice flick of the wrist when he puts it down.
00:23 – And now LeBron is celebrating in front of Russell Westbrook. Welcome back from your injury, Russell!
00:24 – And who is the next player showcased in the trailer?! Terrance Ross from the Toronto Raptors! Yes, the 2013 NBA Slam Dunk Contest Champion rightfully deserves the showcase before the likes of Durant, Kobe, Dwight or James Harden.
00:26 – Oh, there you are Mr. Harden. Nice, quick pull-up jumper over Iman Shumpert as the shot clock expires. Followed by his signature three-ball celebration. I spot a certain cry baby center in the background…
00:30 – Nice! Rondo looks absolutely awesome in this shot. So does Brad Stevens. I can’t tell who’s more excited – and enter KELLY OLYNYK and his awkward-awesome-gazelle looking self. I’m more excited. Did I mention Westbrook is getting beat in this shot, too? Zombies getting some hate.
00:35 – So that’s why the Bobcats are paying him $41 million over the next three years.
00:36 – Rubio is back! That was a heckuva pass to Budinger in the corner. Now rewind, set in slow motion, and watch at Rubio’s eyes. He’s actually looking at Budinger before he passes it, even with all of his momentum moving forward. HE’S LOOKING AT HIM.
00:38 – Awesome dunk, but that doesn’t really look much like Blake Griffin. Nice to see a Valanciunas model, though.
00:40 – Ladies and gentleman, your new-look Nets. And another OLYNYK SIGHTING!
00:46 – It only took half the trailer, but here’s your first look at Dwight in Houston. Pau is attempting to block the dunk crazy late.
00:52 – And here we have Ken Bazemore with some sick sideline celebrations after an Iguodala dunk. I’m diggin’ it.
00:53 – Look at the new Piston Josh Smith fly! Very nice block on Granger. Very nice.
00:57 – Another nice block. This time, Howard on top of Curry.
01:00 – Jerryd Bayless makes a nice diving save to keep possession, even shows a close-up. Then of course the ref makes the wrong call, leaving Bayless vividly upset. Nice touch.
01:05 – Welcome to the NBA, Anthony Bennett. He’s showing off some damn good ball handling skills.
01:09 – Is it just me, or does the entire Cavs team quit pursuing Lee before he actually dunks the ball?
01:11 – OLYNYK!
01:13 – OK, now that looks a lot more like Griffin.
01:14 – And as in real life, it took way too long for Derrick Rose to show up. Can’t wait to see him finally play ball.
01:18 – Kobe with a sick fadeaway over Eric Bledsoe in the new Phoenix jerseys. The jerseys may not look like much, but the back sides in the trailed look pretty cool to me.
01:26 – C’mon, that almost looks real.
01:30 – Hell yeah.

We have also uploaded 92 screens from the trailer which you can view here.

Madden NFL 25 is the final chance to create the ultimate football video game within this generation before many consumers and development resources migrate to next-gen. Madden NFL 25 is a game waiting to hand out mixed emotions. To the casual gamers, you’re about to have the time of your life playing with your best friends. To the hardcore simulation gamers, you might be somewhat disappointed with what are sure to be maddening legacy issues within the game engine.

We were all surprised when 2K Sports announced the release of MLB 2K13, the next Major League Baseball game to surely leave 360 owners pining for a separate system. For baseball lovers without a Playstation 3, time stood still for a brief moment and excitement took over.

But inevitable questions loomed. From thoughts of 2K and MLB just trying to pocket extra money, to gamers wondering if they need to shell out $60 for what seems to amount to a roster update and nothing else.

2K kept quiet, didn’t promote or talk much about MLB 2K13, but sure enough MLB 2K13 released with that hefty $60 price tag. But something happened once I opened up the game and placed it in my system: MLB 2K13 really isn’t that bad; it’s honestly a very enjoyable game. It’s a blast to pick-up-and-play with friends and feels very familiar on the field. It's not in the same league as The Show at this point, with many legacy issues marring the experience and with no real sizeable upgrades over 2K12 waiting on you, but it's hard to say the entire experience is just bad.
It's more like way too familiar.

The depth in Major League Baseball 2K13 is as deep as the kiddie pool in your back yard. Yes the game has some slight improvements, but MLB 2K13’s issues, both hidden and glaring, keeps this franchise from enjoying its presumable swan song.

“Chase your dream.”

That’s what my coaches used to tell me. It’s what my friends and family tell me to this day. But what if my dreams and aspirations always involved playing or coaching in the NFL? Sad to say that for myself, and probably most of you, that playing in the NFL just isn’t going to be happening anytime soon. So we do what we do best, we compromise and try and fulfill are dreams within the Madden football series.

Well thanks to the near-complete redesign of the said series, in Madden NFL 13 those dreams may be able to finally come to fruition more than ever. With new animations, the most innovative Madden feature to date – and possibly any sports game ever – Connected Career mode, and the introduction of the Infinity engine, Madden NFL 13 should finally be able to please both the hardcore and casual gamers.

Being skeptical when reviewing the most anticipated sports game of the year is a must. You find yourself looking for wrongs moreso than rights. But after playing Madden for a week, those wrongs don’t tend to come up too often.

When Andrew Bynum made his debut as the Lord and Savior, the future of EA Sports basketball was in immediate danger. The backlash of the YouTube video and NBA Elite 11 demo led to the series being shut down for two years.

When Scott O’Gallagher tore his hamstring last June, his wife asked him what he wanted to do if he couldn’t play professional basketball anymore. He responded with what he considers, a joke.

“I told her I wanted to make video games,” O’Gallagher said.

Being the most popular sports game in the world should come with heavy burdens of trying to top release after release. But for FIFA 13, it’s just another opportunity to improve on what is already considered great.

Plenty of new is headed to FIFA 13. Revolving mainly around gameplay, there are plenty of new and different ways to play on both sides of the ball...

When I first got my hands on Forza Horizon, all that ran through my mind was how much like an arcade racer it felt. It wasn’t Forza. But thankfully a developer was there to adjust the settings and create a more difficult experience for me (the demo was set to its easy mode apparently). The next day I was finally able to get into Need For Speed: Most Wanted, one of my most anticipated games at E3 this year. Once I was able to drive around in Most Wanted’s world, I knew Forza was nothing near an arcade racer. But still, the two games actually feel like they’re competing with each other for once; that they’re actually targeting the exact same consumer.

So who do I think is going to win this battle? I decided to just roll with a grudgematch … with myself.
