Delivering year after year on expected greatness is no easy feat, but even harder is daring to gain new ground without losing the blueprint that originally paved a successful path. This year’s iteration of NBA2K certainly looks to dazzle, but also features one of the biggest gameplay changes arguably since the franchise’s inception.
With a two-pronged attacked aimed to both satisfy basketball gaming enthusiasts and also increase pure entertainment value, 2K Sports seeks not only to produce another great hoops title, but to also engrain the franchise deeper in today’s pop culture.
Does NBA2K13 accomplish this full on takeover?

The NFL Draft is something that we all get excited over, unless you're a Saints fan. The past few months have given us countless mock drafts and scenarios our favorite teams are looking into. And finally, tomorrow, the draft will kick off and give a new generation of players a chance to prove they belong. But what if teams were drafting for their Madden franchise, and not the real-life counterparts?
Well, Dustin and TD thought about it and decided to make a mock draft of their own by taking a look at how the draft might play out if it were done in Madden 13. This means we aren't picking who we think teams are going to pick, but who they should if the NFL was like Madden NFL 13 and favored the same types of attributes.
Ladies and gentleman, we present to you the Top 13 of Madden 13 Mock Draft...

What are they going to do next? How are they going to top it next year? Who’s going to be on the NBA 2K12 cover?
These were all questions the basketball-gaming world was asking after the huge success that was NBA 2K11. Today, after an elaborate Twitter marketing scheme, one of those questions were answered. The cover athlete -- or should I say athletes -- were revealed for NBA 2K12.

Which Sports Game 'won' the show for you?
Christian McLeod: Madden 12 ran away with my sports game of the show honors based mainly on how big of a leap it is from last year's game. The art style and presentation of the game makes you feel like you are immersed in an NFL broadcast, and the gameplay just feels spot on. I said in my preview that this is going to be a huge year for Madden, and it's nice to finally see the series on the right track.
TD St. Matthew-Daniel: Hands down FIFA 12. In the short time I got to spend with the game, it's clear this game can be this year's NBA 2K11. Any time you can vastly improve control in a sport where ball control is optimal, then there's real potential for greatness at the foundation of the game. EA Sports Football Club also sounds like a feature that could increase the longevity of this year's game much more.
Chase Becotte: I want to say MLB Bobblehead Pros to be edgy, but I will go with WWE '12 instead. I just kept sneaking back to this game at E3 to make more peasants tap out with Alberto Del Rio. Coming off a strong effort with WWE All-Stars and the fact that I was so unimpressed with Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 certainly clouds my judgment a bit, but this game still is making all the right moves this year. From the gameplay to the visuals to the steps taken to make the game look more like a TV broadcast, WWE '12 is finally accepting that it is a sports game and a wrestling game -- not a fighting game.

With the rise of EA Sports' FIFA series over the last few years, the Pro Evolution Soccer franchise is not quite the dominant player it used to be amongst soccer gamers. Still, the core PES fan base is as passionate as there is in sports gaming. I got a hands-on look at PES 2012 at E3, and it’s clear that this year the developers are looking to appease their fans with a richer and deeper version of the soccer game they’ve come to know and love.

After releasing the best sports game of this generation, the developers at 2K Sports have their work cut out for them as they attempt to improve on the success that was NBA 2K11. At E3 today, I was able to get a first look, well, more like glimpse, at NBA 2K12.

Each year in Madden there are a number of teams that never really catch the attention of users. Whether it’s a lack of star power or a gaping hole at a key position, some teams hardly get off the team-selection page and onto the field. So with the 2011 NFL Draft set to begin Thursday, we here at Operation Sports decided to conduct a mock draft of our own to help out these bottom-feeder franchises.
With a list of the least-used teams in Madden 11 (as provided by EA Sports), TD St. Matthew-Daniel, Jayson Young, Dustin Toms and Christian McLeod became video game general managers and selected players that should help make these 12 teams more attractive to users in Madden 12.

Los Angeles -- NBA All-Stars traveled to elementary schools in Greater Downtown Los Angeles to spend time with the local communities. Players from both the Eastern and Western Conference All-Stars showed up in work boots and fresh Nikes to Take Back LA as part of the annual NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service.
Volunteer efforts took place at both Frederick Douglass Academy Elementary School and Virgil Middle School in Los Angeles.
Friday and Saturday proved to be an amazing few days at NBA All-Star 2011 weekend -- more than 1,500 volunteers from the NBA family worked together to create places for kids and families to "live, learn and play."
With the leadership of community-based organizations such as City Year and Kaboom!, school yards and classrooms across downtown LA were transformed over the weekend.
Players who contributed included Pau Gasol, LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Tim Duncan, Al Horford, Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett and others.
Operation Sports readers may get involved with NBA Cares by clicking this link.
Operation Sports was represented throughout the weekend, participating in the volunteer efforts while capturing the scene.

As you guys already know, the Franchise mode in Madden 11 was pretty much no different than that of its predecessor. If "simpler, quicker and deeper" described most of Madden 11, then "stale, unchanged and the same" was still the name of the game for the Franchise mode.
Luckily, EA Sports is prepping for another season on the gridiron, and an updated Franchise mode is said to be part of the game plan. With that in mind, here are four upgrades I hope make the final cut for Madden 12’s Online Franchise mode.
The Surprise Onside Kick
Let's kick things off with the new surprise onside kick (SOK) that has been announced for Madden 12. The word out of EA is that the SOK will be limited to one attempt a game. However, there needs to be more regulation for a franchise mode. My suggestion is to give the league commissioner the option to choose how many SOKs each team can attempt throughout a season. Personally, anywhere between two or three attempts for a whole season would be fair and realistic. This way the league commissioners and fellow users never have to worry about teams exploiting this new gameplay feature.

With Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Drew Brees all out of the playoffs, Aaron Rodgers' recent video-game-like performances have many questioning if he’s now the best quarterback in the league. While that may be a bit premature, there is no question that Rodgers, whose signature touchdown celebration consists of him snapping on an imaginary belt, is challenging for the QB title.
With that in mind, I will use Madden 11’s ratings to assist me in analyzing the top young quarterbacks in the league.
Using a criterion of 25 years old or younger, the players we will be taking a look at are former first-round picks Matt Ryan, Josh Freeman, Mark Sanchez, Sam Bradford and Joe Flacco -- he just turned 26 a couple days ago, so I suppose he's the exception).
Oh, and Tim Tebow. What? It’s Tebow, of course I put him on the list. I also opted to leave out Matthew Stafford because of his reoccurring shoulder injuries.

The announcement of a cover athlete for an NBA video game is a landmark moment in the season. For the fans, it ends a period of anticipation, guessing and even self-created artwork for the soon to be released NBA games. For the athletes, it is a stamp of recognition and achievement. And for the game developers, it’s a symbol and an “I owe you” card for what they promise to deliver in their gamers.
This is a year 2K Sports can once again raise the bar and keep their top spot on the basketball gaming charts. So, it's only fitting that number 23 has been chosen to appear on the cover of NBA 2K11. At the same time, Kevin Durant, a budding superstar destined for greatness, is EA Sports' chosen one to lead the rebirth and creation of NBA Elite 11.
