Tim Schafer's Double Fine Production team (Psychonauts, Brutal Legend) wanted to make a new point-and-click adventure game.

Knowing that major game publishers would be hesitant to fund a new release in what's considered a "dated," arguably "dead" genre, Double Fine turned to its fans to subsidize some of their development costs.

Enter Kickstarter, "The world's largest funding program for creative projects." Kickstarter allows game developers to pitch an idea, set a fundraising goal for how much money it will take to get the project released, then see if fans on the Internet are willing to donate money to get the game launched.

People love to reminisce on the finer things in life. Unfortunately, though, many of those things are in the past and rarely ever come back. Well in the sports gamer's case, two of the finer things in life made a dramatic return in the past year. EA Sports released new versions of NBA Jam and NFL Blitz. While both games are rather fun to play, Dustin Toms and Jayson Young have differed in their opinions on the nostalgia of the two games.

For a few hours last Thursday, the Xbox.com listing for Trials Evolution showed an April 18th release date:

This rumored launch day seems probable, as it occurs on a Wednesday (the day Xbox Live Arcade games are typically released), and it fits within Trials Evolution's previously announced "Spring 2012" timeframe.

After news of the leak spread to developer Red Lynx's forums, Trials Evolution's Xbox.com page was quickly changed to show a release date of "New Year's Eve, 2799."

Red Lynx's community manager responded to the controversy by saying, "Right now, we are targeting a Spring launch [for Trials Evolution]. We don't have a firm release date yet, as the game has not yet completed the certification process."

EA Sports' new downloadable NFL Blitz lacks the excitement and over-the-top persona of the arcade original. While late hits, excessive celebrations and taunts couldn't be added due to NFL rules, one way Blitz's developers could have gotten around the NFL's sanctions is by spicing up the game's dull powerups. Not all of the suggested powerups are NFL-approved, but still, it's fun to think up ways to bring the glitz back to Blitz.

Joe Danger doesn't know what he wants to be. His cape, body suit and helmet are modeled after famous daredevil, Evel Knievel. Yet Joe Danger aspires to be more than just a bus-jumping stuntman.

In this update of a 2010 Playstation 3 release, Joe also tries to be a motocross racer, a a freestyle trick competitor and a platforming hero ala Super Mario or Donkey Kong. Mixing together so many different play styles could have made Joe Danger the "Travis Pastrana" of video games. But unlike Pastrana, Joe Danger can't juggle these different occupations.

Like a rider attempting too many tricks in too little air space, Joe Danger's ambitions cause him to wreck.

How badly do you want an online version of Blitz? For anyone who's still got a dusty cart or CD copy of Midway's NFL Blitz lying around the house, that question is the answer to whether or not EA Sports' 2012 remake is worth your $15.

Developer EA Tiburon had to tone down the original game's brutality to get it licensed by today's politically correct NFL, so unless you're pumped to finally take Blitz online, there's little reason to pick up this censored version of Sal Divita's and Mark Turmell's 1997 arcade hit.
