In what is quickly becoming both the OS Staff's dog on Madden day, Rob Fetter checks in today with a look at why Madden's online modes are disappointing and what it will take to rectify the situation. Check out his thoughts in his article, We Need More From Madden Online.

Quote:
"Online Leagues. Really that’s it? When online leagues were announced originally, I thought that was enough -- at least it’s something new that we haven’t had before with Madden. I’ve been conditioned by EA to just take my little additions they add, thank the company, and move on to be happy with saying, “it’s a step, maybe next year.” But I don’t think that I can do that when it comes to Madden this year. Quote:
"With time ticking away until the release of Madden 09, many football gamers are ready to attack the latest version of Madden. Some are playing the Madden 09 demo; others are trying to finish off that last season in their franchise in Madden 08; then there are many more looking through their favorite team’s roster anticipating what trades they’ll make when they get the game; and there are even some others trying to figure out who they should run their Madden franchise with in 09. Today, I’m going to run down the list of five teams that need to be considered if you’re looking for a team to run with in your franchise."

There are several topics that are hotly debated before each football season. Is this really Bret Favre's last season? How will the BCS mess things up this year? Which brand of football is superior, college or pro? There are as many opinions on the subject as there are people roaming the earth and Rob Fetter is here to explain at least why he thinks College Football Trumps the NFL in Gaming.

Quote:
"The NFL is currently the reigning king of sports, but it’s not the only game in town. College football is getting more and more popular every year; there's a fan base of students and alumni that have always followed their teams, but the popularity of the NFL is creating fans who are branching out into college football to get even more of that pigskin fix every fall. In gaming, the story has been no different, the NFL has always been the king of sports video games. The NFL year in and year out slaughters its college football competitors in video game sales. However this really shouldn’t be the case. Gaming-wise college football just brings more to the table. While the masses side with the NFL I’m going to tell you why college football has more to offer gamers than the juggernaut that is the NFL."

Do you have a favorite moment in sports games that you enjoy immensely? Things such as striking out Big Papi or leveling someone with Ray Lewis stick out in some gamers minds as memorable moments in video games. Rob Fetter has a few moments of his own in his article, Little Moments That Bring Big Enjoyment. Check out his thoughts and leave some of your own.

Quote:
"There are moments in gaming that will get me up out of my seat cheering or taunting at my opponent with excitement. Over a lifetime of gaming I’m sure nearly everyone has had these big moments at some point. Whether edging out an opponent online in the final seconds, or squeaking out a victory against the AI after falling way behind, every person has those epic big gaming moments that are followed by a Tiger fist pump."

Rob Fetter checks in today with a look at the different ways you could approach dynasty mode this year. Be sure to read his article, Different Ways to Approach Dynasty Mode, and see if you agree with all of his ideas!

Quote:
"One of the best features in NCAA Football has always been the dynasty mode. It offers an opportunity for gamers to take over a NCAA football program and lead them through multiple seasons writing your new school’s future. When you start your dynasty there are multiple ways to go about picking a team, and of course you always have to run one dynasty with your favorite team. For many people that might be enough; to build your team into a national power, or just maintain that 6 star program you’re inheriting beating up on rivals and racking up bowl wins. But for some this can become dull after a while, so here are a few recommendations for spicing things up and adding longevity to the game."

Some sports gamers say Links 2004 was the best Golf game they have ever played. Unfortunately, as with several other titles in the past few months, Links 2004 was the series' swan song, or was it? Rob Fetter writes today about why he thinks the Links series should be revived in his article, The Missing Link.

Quote:
"Not to mention that now when I look at Prizefighter all I keep thinking to myself is, “That should have been Links, that development money could have gone towards Links." But alas it is too late for that now. So it appears that the next installment of Links will be something that the gaming world will never see. "

Rob Fetter checks in today with an article that encourages gamers to just shut up and play their games in order to just have some fun. Be sure to check out Rob's latest article, Finding More Joy in Games.

Quote:
"Games are what they are; don’t expect Madden to dynamically change what it is. It’s a game that generally has an offensive focus and allows you to get more yards passing than on the ground. NCAA Football is a great game, but the defense in it is lacking. Fight Night was fun in the ring, but its career mode was mundane. Games at their core are for the most part going to continue to be what they have been in the past, but that doesn’t mean that beyond all the negative things there aren’t a ton of fantastic aspects to the games as well."

After checking out the top 10 new additions to Madden NFL 09, our very own Rob Fetter only saw it fitting to list what he thinks are the top three missing features not in Madden NFL 09. Check out his article, Top Three Features Not in Madden NFL 09.

Quote:
"As gamers grow older they see more and more responsibilities being added to their lives such as work, wives, and children. We are seeing more and more of these gamers who have aged, but not grown out of the habit or addiction of gaming. With that number of aging gamers growing, games need to find ways to help make the games more pick up and play friendly."

After we learned that Tecmo Bo Jackson was the inagural inductee in the Sports Video Games Hall of Fame yesterday, we promised that there would be another induction today. And what better to induct than the game which made Tecmo Bo Jackson famous, Tecmo Super Bowl. Operation Sports Rob Fetter takes a look at the game in his Tecmo Super Bowl Induction Article.
Quote:
"By simply resting on the features listed thus far, a spot could be cleared out in the Sports Gaming Hall of Fame for Super Tecmo Bowl. But what truly cemented Tecmo Super Bowl’s place in gaming history was the multiplayer matchups that all of us have had with others over the years. I dare to say that I believe there have been games and rivalries so intense that friendships have been torn apart or damaged beyond repair from these battles in Tecmo"

Quote:
"Online gamers across the country had previously spent the past few years cursing EA for their failure to add online leagues to their sports games which was finally alleviated somewhat this past year when Live and NHL sported them. Before this, it seemed to be a yearly tradition where EA would answer the online leagues question with the simple comment of, 'maybe next year.' Well, now next year has finally come for football gamers."
