Our very own Richard Chavez recetly got a chance to get his hands on Midway's new wrestling title, TNA iMPACT. Be sure to check out what Richard thought of the game with his hands-on preview!

Quote:
"The virtual wrestling ring has been barren over the years. With WCW dying out in 2001, the only non-WWE grappling games have been in the form of Legends of Wrestling and Backyard Wrestling. Since those games are terrible, THQ has been devoid of any competition and wrestling fans have been left with only the Smackdown series. Now another company is climbing the ladder to reach THQ’s once-undisputed title."

Over the course of the past few years, there have been some classic examples of great commentary in sports game. Unfortunately, there have been some classic examples of how to not do commentary in sports games. Richard Chavez takes a look at the five worst recent examples of games with terrible commentary in his article, Worst Commentary in Sports Games. Put your earplugs in.

Quote:
"Commentary in sports games is a relatively new feature. It debuted on the SNES and Genesis with simple statements telling you what was going on in the game. It really took a step forward on the PS1 when CD-quality audio was introduced. Commentary has evolved from NBA Jam’s “FOR THREE!” to full blown conversations in ESPN NFL 2K5 and beyond. With the technology we have now, commentary can sound just like it does on television. Still, there are certain games where you would rather hear the sound of horses breeding. So without further delay, these are some recent games with terrible commentary."

Most wrestling gamers still feel WWF: No Mercy was the greatest wrestling game ever made. We are now a decade past that landmark title and no game has yet to challenge No Mercy for the best wrestling game of all time. How can gaming companies replicate the success of No Mercy? Our very own Richard Chavez takes a look at that question in his article Challenging the Champ: How to Beat No Mercy.

Quote:
"There is no doubt that the Smackdown games sell a ton and will continue to do so; yet, we still aren't close to finding a suitable contender to the throne. If Yukes/THQ, Midway, or any other wrestling game developer wants to beat No Mercy, they need to follow these guidelines: consistency, simplicity, and attention to detail. With the Smackdown series being the most frequent offender, we’ll use that franchise as the basis of our comparison."

The Major League Baseball All-Star game is tonight. After what was a memorable home-run derby with Josh Hamilton being introduced to the world, will we see any memorable moments tonight? Carlos Hernandez uses MLB '08: The Show as his crystal ball to get a better picture of what is in store tonight. Check out his MLB All-Star Game Simulation to see what The Show predicts!

Quote:
"The last three times the All Star Game was played in Yankee Stadium, the Bronx Bombers reached the World Series. After hearing that statistic, Yankee fans surely cannot wait to get the second half underway. Meanwhile with home field advantage at stake, the players representing the National League and American League have a lot more to play for than bragging rights. In the final season at Yankee Stadium, baseball fans across the world can at least expect a competitive game. If we are lucky, something special will happen. If not, we will have a tie."

Over the past several years, a lot of popular sports gaming series have left us. Richard Chavez has put together a list of the most missed sports video games series. Check out his article, A Feeling of Emptiness: Missed Game Series.

Quote:
"With so many different sports games releasing every season, it’s easy to forget that there were many more just a few years ago. Exclusive licenses, changing times and companies folding took these games away during their primes, but they will live on in our hearts. These are a few sports series I wish I could still play."

"Plenty of great ideas fail: Pepsi Crystal, New Coke, trading for Victor Zambrano, the original Hulk movie and…Legends of Wrestling. The concept was sound, but the gameplay did not come through. Now with WWE Legends of WrestleMania releasing in time for WrestleMania XXV, a do over is upon us."

Richard Chavez is back this week with a look at five players who will be making big jumps ratings wise for NBA 2k9. Be sure to check out who he thinks will be making the leap.

Quote:
"When NBA 2K9 is released this upcoming fall, there will most definitely be debates ranging from Boston fans whining about Glen Davis’ rating to Lakers haters disputing Los Angeles’ almost assuredly high team rating. Nobody knows the method that 2K Sports uses to rate players, but we can safely conclude these five guys certainly won’t be complaining."

In his article writing debut for Operation Sports, Richard Chavez tells us what five teams are going to be overused in Madden 09 Online.

Quote:
"If I had a quarter for every time I played the New England Patriots in Madden 08, I’d have been able to buy the franchise myself. In fact I got so used to seeing Tom Brady I thought I’d be the next person to have his child. But now with the newest Madden on the horizon, we’re going to take a look at some teams that may end up being the most overused online teams in ‘09. "
