First rule of the Octagon, don’t talk about the Octagon. But seriously, walking in with your head up and your hands down will quickly lead to you getting knocked out. You might be able to pull off some flash knockouts, but the lack of strategy will have you on the mat in no time. Any plans of attack you might have learned from WWE Smackdown vs. Raw or Fight Night won’t apply here either. The UFC is an entirely different beast. Doing your homework before a fight will pay dividends by the time the bell sounds. So here’s what you can do to improve your record.

While hot dogs and hamburgers were being consumed to honor our troops a few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to play The Bigs 2 in New York. I also got to check out the revamped career mode, the fresh season mode and the various multiplayer modes available in the game. The game will be released in July, but for now, here’s your chance to get your fill of The Bigs 2.

The UFC video game license is precisely where it should be. Previous UFC themed games were poorly received by critics and fans alike while doing nothing to advance the Ultimate Fighting brand.

The demo for Fight Night Round 4 is available now for Xbox Live Gold members. It features Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton in a three-round bout in a rematch of their May 2 fight. The demo also includes a tutorial mode to get you up to speed on some of the new gameplay mechanics. While it’s hard to judge a game that isn’t released until the end of June, the developers did get at least one thing right: Manny Pacquiao still has a mean left hook.

It’s tough to compete with the NFL’s heavy hitters when you’re using the Lions or Rams. So if you’re a die-hard fan in Detroit or St. Louis, here’s your early chance to scout out which teams you’ll be facing online in Madden 2010. After all, the games begin on August 14.

The sport of kings has never transitioned well to video games. I remember playing Derby Owners Club a few years ago. It was an arcade game from Sega that came out in 2002. You pressed buttons and watched horse races. Does that sound fun? (No, is the correct answer.)

There was also Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred for Xbox and PS2. It was an also-ran released in 2005. I also cannot forget about the Barbie horse games that come out every few years.

For whatever reason, horses get a bad rap in video games. For something as popular as horse racing, there has to be a way to fix this.

Buzz! Quiz TV is not competing with Killzone 2 or MLB: The Show for time in your PS3. In fact, this game was released last September, well before those titles even came out. Buzz! also battles against the Scene Its and Trivial Pursuits of the world.

So, why is OS reviewing this trivia game?

Well, when the game was first released, there were some basic sports questions in it, but there was not enough to really classify the game as a "sports trivia game." However, a recent Buzz! Sports Quiz Pack has been unleashed on the masses, and there are now over 500 new sports-related questions in this $7.99 add-on pack. So, does this sports pack add-on to Buzz! Quiz TV come through in the clutch? Well, let's find out below.

Hindsight is 20/20. Last April, a re-retired Brett Favre seemed like a good cover athlete choice for Madden 2009. The curse would be broken, or so EA thought. After a month of speculation, Brett Favre returned to play for the New York Jets. To describe it as a lackluster return would be an understatement.

Favre had 22 touchdowns and 22 interceptions, but his play down the stretch cost the Jets a few winnable games and the Jets were toast. All the while, the Dolphins and former Jets QB Chad Pennington were busy winning the AFC East. The Jets were ruined, Brett Favre’s career had a lame punctuation, and the Madden Curse had struck again.

Another one bites the dust.

Untold Legends, Tomb Raider: Legend, Legends of Wrestling. There seems to be a pattern here. For every Legend of Zelda, there are a handful of mediocre games with a legendary title. In time for the 25th anniversary of wrestling’s Super Bowl, Legends of Wrestlemania is in stores now and is hoping to break the trend of mediocre "legend" games.

MLB 09: The Show is marketed as the "most realistic baseball game" available today, but how realistic is it when compared to the real MLB season? While there is no way of knowing that until the real season is over, I used the most current rosters that are available online and simulated the MLB season on default settings to see what "the most realistic game" has to say about the '09 season, which just so happens to start this Sunday,

So, here is a quick rundown of what The Show predicts will happen during the '09 season.

Road to the Show mode in MLB 09: The Show is the best career mode I have ever played. Road to the Show was introduced in the 2007 iteration of The Show and has been a cornerstone of the series ever since. However, it is starting to show its age this year. In 2009, the developers have added more minor league stadiums and given you the ability to edit your player throughout his career.

In 2010, the developers are going to need to improve more than just the aesthetics to keep things interesting.

What happens when you condense "the most realistic baseball game" onto the PSP? It is like putting a Hemi engine in a Mini Cooper: While all the bells and whistles are great on the PS3, some of them do not translate to the small screen. Still, MLB 09: The Show on the PSP is worth checking out under the right circumstances.

On the Diamond

Prepare to hear this a lot throughout this review: This game is strikingly similar to last year’s version, or even the '07 version. Not much has changed on the gameplay front. If you played at least a few nine inning games from the 2006-2008 games in this series, you will be an expert in 2009. SCE San Diego has added a Legend difficulty mode to counteract the familiarity, but that is not quite enough.

Thankfully, at least the rosters and stadiums have been updated to reflect the 2009 season. Though with this strange offseason where many free agents did not sign until Spring Training began, players like Andy Pettitte, Oliver Perez and Manny Ramirez will not be with a team until you download the new rosters or do it yourself. You will also see the new New York stadiums in all their glory. Shea Stadium and the old Yankee Stadium are still there if you want to relive their 2008 collapses.

The key to a successful baseball franchise is not building from the top down. Having an Albert Pujols or Hanley Ramirez-type is certainly important, but it is the pieces around those players that make them thrive. Nailing the final few picks of a fantasy draft can turn your above-average team into a monster. This is an early look at a few of the guys in MLB 09 and MLB 2K9 that can turn your mediocre franchise into a powerhouse.

The 2008 season was a strange one for baseball. During the year, Tampa Bay emerged, the Mets and Yankees tanked, the Brewers and White Sox made waves and the Cubs collapsed -- all right so that last one was not so strange.

But the 2009 season is only six weeks away, so it is time to look back so we can look ahead. I plan to do that by looking at what players got hosed in the overall rating department. To do this, I will be using MLB 2K9 as my guide.

Of course, time will tell whether these players were justified in the rating they received, but for right now, this is who I think got hosed or overrated in MLB 2K9.
