I've been a Dallas Mavericks fan since 1998, spoiled by their consistent winning for the better part of a decade and a half. So it goes without saying that this season has been one for the toilet.

This up-and-down roller coaster of the Mavericks clawing toward the eighth seed in the Western Conference has been exhausting, especially while also expecting the tank to roll through Dallas so they have a chance at Markelle Fultz or Lonzo Ball in the draft. The Mavericks don't know what team they are, but I know the rebuild is coming.

So, I started it a bit early in NBA 2K17.

To achieve the pinnacle of success in the virtual football world, one must build a team with really good players and a bit of video game smarts.

The New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons took separate paths to take part in one of the most memorable Super Bowls of all time, but they both fit the mold of success.

The Patriots have been at the top of the football world for the last decade and a half. They've built a consistent winner. The Falcons, meanwhile, have took some time to get to their first Super Bowl since 1999. The Patriots have had the same general structure for many years while the Falcons have had to tweak their plans during the same span.

But the point is if you're in the middle of a franchise and trying to win a Super Bowl, you're going to need a plan. These two teams came up with a plan, and you can execute a plan if you have the right mindset in Madden.

Draft Champions was a breath of fresh air in Madden 16.

It was an entirely different way to play the game. Last year, I called it the best mode in the game, and it was the mode to play well after the season ended.

But now almost two months into Madden 17, and almost halfway through the NFL season, Draft Champions seems to have lost an edge in popularity, at least for me.

There are a lot of new features in Connected Franchise this year, if you've noticed.

Madden 17 brings a more in-depth franchise experience to the table this year. It forces you to think more like an actual NFL coach or general manager in order to preserve your franchise on a long-term basis.

If you're new to Madden's CFM, or are curious how to make the most out of your franchise experience, I'll attempt to help you as best I can. In all honesty, it takes a lot to screw this up...

It's never too early to discuss next season in the NBA.

Once the champion is crowned, the other 29 teams will begin concocting a plan of attack in hopes of becoming NBA champions next year.

That starts with the NBA Draft and kicks into high gear during free agency. Nearly every team will be in play for the top-named free agents due to the increasing salary cap. Yes, even the Philadelphia 76ers are technically in play for Kevin Durant.

Someone check on Joel Embiid if he still thinks this is possible.

But let's look ahead. Here are some impending roster changes that could change the landscape of NBA 2K17.

NBA 2K17 won't be released until later this year. While the league still has to get through the playoffs, the NBA Draft and free agency, this is a fun time to talk about the future. This is going to be a huge summer for the NBA. It's an offseason like no other, and it's one we may never see again. The intrigue and mystery factors are off the charts.

For instance, the draft has two potential superstar players in Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram. There is a lack of star power after that, but at least two teams are going to come out happy in the end.

There's also this matter of a huge salary cap increase. The likes of Kevin Durant and (maybe) Dwight Howard are going to get these bank-breaking contracts from any team that has the necessary space to get a deal done. With the cap explosion, this means roughly 26 teams can offer a max contract. The upcoming free-agent class is not the strongest, but there's still lots of money to spend. We will probably never have this many teams with max money to spend again, which could mean some wild trades also happen to fill those cap sheets.

But look, I know you're all still looking at me funny. You're saying, "why don't we wait to talk about this once teams have new faces and are settled come August?" Well, what would be the fun in that? The mystery is the best part of the NBA offseason, so let's indulge and try to figure out what teams will be the most intriguing come next season.

From the short amount of time I've played it, though, I've come across many things. The gameplay is different, the mechanics are more refined and it's much easier to track players that exceed expectations.

There are guys who you expect to be role players, then explode for 25-30 points in a crucial, must-win game. We've come across this many times in real life. 2K16 is no different.

So, here are the top five most underrated players in this year's installment. So if you're thinking of doing a fantasy draft in MyGM, this is the list for you.

Draft Champions is the best mode in Madden 16.

Even with the long-awaited release of the Connected Franchise patch, there's a good chance that Madden's new mode is still going to get the most use for the time being. And why not? The more Madden releases flashback players like Clinton Portis and Chris Johnson, the more enticing it will be to me.

However, if you've been playing Draft Champions enough, there's a good chance you have come across people who are trying to game the system. Even in a mode that almost ensures a fair playing field for every match, Herman Moore will still play the slot and abuse your 72-rated cornerback on a deep ball because your opponent is not in the good sportsmanship business.

The point of Madden NFL 16 this year, plain and simple, is to "be the playmaker."

It's been obvious ever since Odell Beckham Jr., was named the cover athlete many months ago. Receivers were about to get their time to shine in Madden, even if it meant certain receivers coming down with never-before-seen catches and them appearing to look overpowered in the game.

In the midst of an entertaining NBA Finals, NBA 2K15 fever is still running rampant.

This is a trend that's been found to work for many years. During a league's playoffs, gamers will resort to playing games like 2K or NHL 15 before the frevor of said sports dies out until next season. That being said, there's no better time to be playing 2K than right now, but there's a good chance you've exhausted all possible avenues to enjoy the game for this year.

Many years in MyCareer and a large number of wins in MyTeam and MyLeague eventually get boring. Believe it or not, though, there are still ways to spice the game up and keep it fun before trading it for NBA 2K16 (unless you did already after seeing the Spike Lee trailer, which you're forgiven if that's the case).

But for those who still have the game and are still having fun, here's how you can still make NBA 2K15 a jolly good time.

NBA 2K15 was a good game. Very solid and still playable. In its first year operating with a full-year of a next-gen system, 2K delivered above expectations and provided glimmers of hope for what’s to come down the road.

That being said, it’s never too early to start looking at NBA 2K16.

It's amazing what a year of basketball can do. Not only can it change the perception of a particular team in real life, but it can also affect what happens in the video game world, as evidence of NBA 2K15's final roster rankings for the 2014-15 regular season.

Remember when you first bought the game, and the Cleveland Cavaliers had the best offense of all time because of the additions of Kevin Love with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving? Well, Irving has maintained his end of the deal while K-Love has dropped, causing Cleveland's overall to drop, as well. More on that later.

But the playoffs are upon us, and it's time to put the regular season to bed once and for all. With that being said, here are the final rankings of the 2014-15 regular season in NBA 2K15. These are how all the teams were rated, by ranking, heading into the playoffs.

When it comes to Madden, two things matter from March until the game is released: free agents and rookies.

Not only are you enamored with the thought of all these players going to new teams, but you start thinking of what teams are you going to use the most when the new Madden 16 comes out.

Madden 16 might be the craziest game yet, in terms of new faces. Not only have their been plenty of moves this offseason, but the rookie class is slated to be the deepest, talented class in a long time. Especially with how much mock drafts are valued, the different possibilities where the top rookies could land provides never-ending intrigue. Let's take a look at the 10 rookies that will be in Madden 16 that will be on your radar when playing online or on connected franchise.

It's difficult beyond impossible to keep playing a game well after that sports season is over. Just the other night, I put Madden 15 in the PS4, excited to play it because it hasn't been touched since the Super Bowl.

After three and a half quarters of a 9-minute game, it was turned off.

The struggle is real. By the time hockey and basketball season are over, it'll be the dog days of summer in sports video game land.

But there's hope for Madden. There are ways to defeat the system and make it enjoyable up until August when you're standing in line at midnight waiting to get Madden 16.
