Does the Madden NFL 13 Scoreboard Banner Need an Adjustment? Stuck
Posted on May 9, 2012 at 03:05 PM.

Is it just me or does the Madden NFL 13 scoreboard banner look odd, at the top? If they are using the ESPN license, one would think it would look similar to the above picture.

Of course, that is a photoshopped image, I'm using as an example. If it were me, I'd first remove the top scoreboard banner and bring it down to the bottom, just like ESPN broadcasts do. Add the play clock to the right side and replace the ESPN logo with an EA Sports logo and be done with it. Just looks out of place, at the top.

Again, maybe it's just me.

What do you think? How would you change it? Maybe you like it as is...? Post your thoughts.

EDIT: Wanted to add the following link, for more examples. Great work Deuce! http://www.operationsports.com/forum...sentation.html

Another link, as I wanted the OS Forum readers to chime in. http://www.operationsports.com/forum...djustment.html

I don't like it on the bottom because it covers gameplay. Maybe push it all the way to the bottom. Why not have it pop up at times. Why do I need a score overlay during actual game play. I think I know the down, distance and so on. Why not have small game score at one side top, play clock, other side and pop up, down distance?

Why logo EA or team logos, too much info, not to mention it is there all the time, again make it appear between plays and disappear.

i love the photoshopped scorebug much more so i agree but i must say i don't like the scorer being at the bottom because i like to see my running back in the backfield and not having the banner block anything during gameplay

Least of my worries for a Madden game.

What's with the font of the score? Is this Mutant League Football? That's pretty hideous.
I agree 100%, that's ugly font

This is a big reason why NCAA will be better than Madden. NCAA does a better job of replicating an actual telecast. Madden has been struggling with this for years. Maybe they don't want to make both use ESPN.

its so ugly it looks like the scoreboard came from a wii game

ugh that EA Sports banner has to be the ugliest thing ever.

they should have nothing on the screen and when you want to see score/down/time then push a button and it goes to the actual scoreboard at the ground...just saying

Being a professional graphic designer myself, it baffles me to see EA wasting resources and, most importantly, precious time (which you can't buy) by puting their design team on a task that's already resolved. Not only the ESPN graphics looks better than what they've presented us with, it's what the community wants.

Since they have the ESPN license, why not use all of their graphics, overlays, splashes, transitions, etc, and let their design team adress other areas of the game?

When I think of the NFL I don't think of ESPN. I think about CBS and Fox. Personally, I wouldn't want to see ESPN banners in an NFL game. I think the new scorebug could use some work, but I honestly think it represents the NFL CBS broadcasts pretty well.

It would be cool to have ESPN in the game, but I like the CBS banner. I think they picked CBS because of the announcers.

Love the recommendation. The current one employed by EA feels like the one from 2001. It just feels outdated.

Looks way to generic. NCAA seems to get it right

I like the fonts and colors but it's a bit too chunky. Although I think it'd be best to copy the real life scoreboards.

I am someone who actually gets annoyed with the scoreboard covering the running back. Why can't they lower it all the way to the bottom, like espn. Why not give us an option to turn off, or have the score board pop up at times. Real football, the players have the pressure off not knowing or seeing at times how much time is left or time outs. However, EA wants to make more like watching TV instead of playing.
