Middle Tennessee State's undefeated tour moves through Greenville 42-28

The Blue Raiders continue on their winning streak, now at 9 in a row, beating ECU 42-28. ECU kept it close for the first quarter and a half and was tied 14-14 at one point. 2 costly turnover for ECU help pull MTSU to a 28-14 lead going into the half.

Neither team looked that great in the 2nd half. MTSU did add 7 point in the 3rd to make it 35-14, then early in the 4th to make it 42-14. ECU would mount a charge late in the 4th and score 14 points, with help from a lost fumble by MTSU, but would run out of time as MTSU would hang on to win 42-28. With this win, MTSU clinches the C-USA West Division. they will play Southern Miss in the C-USA Championship game, as they have already clinched the East.

The Blue Raiders move on to 9-0(7-0), and now became the #3 ranked team in the BCS rankings due to Wisconsin losing to Iowa. Florida and Oklahoma are still ahead of MTSU, and Utah is right behind MTSU in 4th. Next game for the Blue Raiders is a tough road game at 5-4 Penn State, who have lost 2 in a row and is now unranked.

on the awards front, Lance Williams remains #2 in the Heisman race, he is also in the running for the Maxwell, and leading for the O'Brien award. LE Mike Mansfield is leading for the Lombardi Award, with 50 tackles, 11 sacks. K Dallas Fowler is currently in the running(4th) for the Groza Award.

Undefeated Blue Raiders defend their home turf against Memphis

Closer than expected, but a win none the less. The Blue Raiders grabbed an early 10-0 lead in the first quarter, and extended it to a 17-3 lead by halftime. Memphis' defense kept the MTSU offense guessing though, forcing 2 turnovers and keeping MTSU under 30 points. Memphis made an attempt to comeback in the 2nd half, and got within 7 points(24-17) at one point, but time would run out before they could catch up and the Blue Raiders would go on to win 27-17.

Memphis would end up with more offensive yards, but the ground game of MTSU would control the game and push them to victory. Memphis QB John Henry would attempt 49 passes, but only complete 26 of them. he ended up with 274 yards with 1 TD and 1 Int. MTSU's QB Lance Williamswas 15/23, 172 yards 2 TDs 1 Int. he would also run for 40 yards and 1 rush TD.

3 of the last 4 games for the Blue Raiders are on the road, 2 versus top 15 teams. Next week, however, will be at a 5-3(3-2) ECU team, who are fighting for the top spot in the East(C-USA). Southern Miss is currently #1 in the East, MTSU is #1 in the West, 1 game ahead of Houston. MTSU beat Houston 23-3 earlier in the year.

MTSU QB Lance Williams is currently in the running for the Heisman Trophy, and is currently the only QB in the top 5 candidates. Florida State lost to Maryland this week, so that bumps the Blue Raiders to 4th in the BCS, behind Florida, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin. Utah is #5, and these 5 teams are the only undefeated team thus far in the 2019 season.

Offense was not a problem for the 6th ranked Blue Raiders, beats UAB 45-21

The Blue Raiders offense was on a roll in Birmingham against conference foe UAB. Lance Williams was nearly perfect in his few attempts at pass, going 10/13 for 231 yards 4 passing TDs, also running for 55 yards and a rushing TD.

The Blue Raiders offense put up 14 points in each of the first 3 quarters, and lead 28-14 at the half. A FG in the 4th would give them a 45-21 lead which would be more than enough to beat the Blazers. MTSU will move on to 4-0 and play the now 25th ranked Houston Cougars who are also 4-0. It will be the 3rd team in the first 5 game that the Blue Raiders will face that has been ranked.

#7 Middle Tennessee State dodges a bullet on the road winning 35-28 against SMU.

Both teams came into this game 2-0. The Blue Raider beat 2 top 25 teams while SMU beat an FCS team and Rutgers. SMU got the early lead by scoring on their first drive. MTSU would score 14 points in the 1st quarter, however, leading 14-7 going into the 2nd. Both teams would mirror what they did in the first quarter, MTSU gaining a 28-14 lead at the half.

SMU QB Jayson Watts, suffered a serious Fractured Patella injury early in the 3rd quarter, and is likely to miss the rest of the season. Back-up QB Robert Singleton, gave a valiant performance however, going 20/25 199 yards and 2 TDs in the 2nd half. SMU was just too far behind to complete the comeback, falling 7 points shy of an upset. SMU HB John McKenzie lead all non-QBs in total yards with 239 all-purpose yards. MTSU's QB Lance Williams threw up 3 passing TDs with 308 total yards and ran for 1 himself.

Middle Tennessee State will travel to Birmingham, Al next week for a game against the UAB Blazers, who are also currently 3-0.

#7 Middle Tennessee State finds a way to win with a 27-26 double OT Thriller.

Defense was the name of the game for the majority of the game between #22 TCU and #7 MTSU. The Blue Raiders were able to take the early lead on a 42 yard FG in the 1st. TCU would answer with a 9 yard TD run in the 2nd quarter to lead 7-3. on their next drive, MTSU answered with a 23 yard TD pass to retake the lead 10-7 at the half.

The 3rd quarter was a quiet one, as neither team was able to score any points. TCU would break the mold in the 4th, as they tie the game up 10-10 with a 34 yard FG. MTSU mantained a great drive and puched it in from 3 yards out to take a 17-10 lead with 2:55 remaining in the game. TCU would put together a great drive of their own, one that ended with a 2 yard TD pass to force OT at a 17-17 score.

In OT, TCU got the ball first. they moved the ball some, but were unable to find the endzone and would have to settle for a 31 yard FG. MTSU had several chances to win the game, but a dropped pass in the endzone, and a sack would force MTSU to tie the game at 20-20 with a FG.

Into OT #2, MTSU would convert on a 3rd and 15 to get into the 5 yard line, and eventually power their way into the endzone from the 1 to take a 27-20 lead. TCU scored on their first play with a 25 yard TD pass. however, TCU would fail on the extra point try. Blue Raiders would get their 2nd win of the season. Next week, MTSU will face conference foe SMU in Dallas, TX.

#10 Middle Tennessee State wins in a tight battle in their 2019 season opener against #17 Georgia Tech 16-13.

It was a nice, sunny day in Murfreesboro, Tennessee for the season opener for the Blue Raiders. Georgia Tech was fresh off their big 44-7 win @ Ole Miss while the Blue Raiders had week 1 off.

The Game started out great for the Blue Raiders, as they drove down the field on their opening drive on their way to a 7-0 lead. QB Lance Williams throws a 19 yard strike to WR Brandon Banks. Georgia Tech would answer with a TD drive of their own, with a big 22 yard run by HB Andy May for the TD.

The Second Quarter was a little slow for both teams, neither able to punch it in for the TD. The Blue Raiders would also suffer an Injury to Lance Williams, and he would miss the rest of the game. The injury does not look to be that serious and he is expected to be back before next week's game against TCU. MTSU was able to get 2 Field Goals in the quarter to make it a 13-7 lead at the half. Just before the end of the 3rd quarter, Chris Monroe scores on a 17 yard run, However, Ortiz would miss on the extra point try. it's a 13-13 game now.

The Blue Raiders were able to drive down the field, but were unable to get into the endzone. They would have to settle for a 22 yard Field Goal to take the lead 16-13 with 3:37 remaining in the game. Georgia Tech had a chance to tie it late in the 4th, but Ortiz misses on the Field Goal attempt. The Blue Raiders would go on to win it 16-13.
