As we all know starting next summer Americans and Canadians will have to show passports when crossing the borders. This doesn't bother me so much because I have a passport and so do a majority of Canadians. I've heard some stats that say only 30% or so of Americans own one

So I'm asking you guys do you own a passport? if not, why not?

This will be interesting to find out especially when it comes to finding out why you don't have a passport!
This is pretty amazing and at the same time frightful stuff. The CBC program The Fifth Estatedid a program on this topic Wednesday night. Apparently most of this is due to concussions and the pounding that football players go through day in and day out especially those on the lines. The study is based on actuarial studies done by insurance companies and by studies from major universities.

Anyways here's the page to the video of the story. Let me know if the video doesn't play and ... Read More

Sheesh, Fassel has gotten himself in the news lately. Just the other day it was reported that he wrote a letter to Al Davis expressing interest in becoming Raiders coach (does he have a death wish?) and now there's a report from Rogers Sportsnet that the Toronto Argos of the CFL are eying him to fill their vacant head coaching spot.

I guess this makes some sense what with the two coaches in the Grey Cup this year. Calgary's coach is John Hufnagel who's been a longtime QB and offensive ... Read More

Actually not really. This is Indonesia's Pygmy Tarsier. Scientists rediscovered this critter after fearing that it had gone extinct.

I originally had a totally different song and singer lined up for this week but someone made a comment on my first song and brought up Marvin Gaye's Here My Dearalbum from 1978. This prompted me to decide to play for your pleasure a song from that album.

As background this was an album Marvin was ordered by the courts to produce in which the proceeds would go to his first wife Anna Gordy. At first Marvin decided to produce crap but his thirst for perfection and honesty as an artist ... Read More

As some of you may be aware my family background is from the West Indian country of Guyana. Most people I tell that to have no idea where it is but if you tell people of a certain age about the Jonestown Massacre they'll know where it is then.

My parents were both from Guyana and it was once a pretty thriving country relatively speaking as it was part of the British Empire. However, by the 1960s things got murky as Guyana tried to carve out independence for itself. Now i'm not going ... Read More

Most observers of the NHL right now are saying the Leafs are playing a much better brand of hockey then they did last year. Most experts say the Leafs are faster, play harder and generally have a bit of a brighter future. Now contrast that to last year when everyone was down on the Leafs and said that the team was an embarrassment to the city. That's all well and good but it's all perception. Check this out.

The Leafs right now are 7-7-4 with 56 Goals For and 61 Goals against. The ... Read More

I wanted so badly to post this song during the election but I couldn't. Anyways, my family background is from the West Indies and such as my parents are both from Guyana. Anyways I grew up listening to a lot of soca, kaiso and reggae music. There's one such singer called The Mighty Sparrow and he did an election song for Barack Obama so here it is:

"Barack The Magnificent"

I have a thread about this on the forums but I think putting out a reminder via blog would be better here on out. Anywho Tonight @ 9PM relive the glory of the '85 Bears as they take on the Packers at Lambeau.

I will probably write up some random thoughts about said game at a later date. I don't know if i'm going to do a proper blog today. We'll see how things go.

Time to put the ribbon on the commentary topic for now I present to you my top sports commentary teams by sport of all time on television.

NFL: This one is arguably the hardest category to fill out as it's a 3 way toss up:

Pat Summerall and John Madden (1981-2001)If little green men came down to Earth and demanded to see an example of the most popular game in America I sure as hell wouldn't show them a broadcast of today's game. No, i'd show them a game called by ... Read More

I have to ask this because it's popped up in my mind again today and it's been bugging me. It's not worth a thread on the forums so I ask here. Hopefully someone can give an answer by the time I look at my blog tomorrow when continuing my commentary series.

Why the heck is Jim Fassell out of a job? OK, I know he wasn't the greatest offensive coordinator with the Ravens but offense and Ravens don't often fit in the same sentence very much so it was bound to not work out completely. ... Read More

So I left you all hanging last night with a promise of expanding upon sports commentary after proclaiming my love for Dick Enberg and what he's done over the years. Before I start I should at least fulfill my promise and relate what makes him so unique among the #1 NFL football PBP guys of the last 30 years. What makes him unique is that he didn't have one color man throughout his tenure as the #1 guy.

He started out with...

Merlin Olsen (personally I think this was ... Read More

- Notre Dame football should go back to the mustard gold and green ensemble they wore during the Devine years.

- Did you know Bob Costas worked NFL games for CBS? Indeed he did!

- Too bad Cliff Lee is gonna win the AL Cy Young because if you look deeply into the numbers you'll see that Roy Halladay had as good or better numbers then him. Oh well can't be too upset, Cliff did have an amazing season.

- Sam Mitchell is one of the most uncreative coaches ... Read More

Every Tuesday I plan to post a video of a song that I like. It will be a window into my musical tastes (which are very old) and is a quick way of putting up content here.

As most of you in this community know i'm a HUGE Marvin Gaye fan so what better way to introduce this feature then to post a Marvin Gaye song. Now I could be lazy and post a song that everyone knows but i'm not going to do that instead, i'm going to post a song that is off the beaten path and delivers a good message ... Read More

Well time to plunge into my favourite topics

The other day I watched a fairly interesting Q&A with historian Sean Wilentz about his book titled The Age of Reagan: 1974-2008. It's interesting to see that Wilentz is the first historian to look at Reagan through the eyes of history rather then the patchwork we've seen. We've seen books that verge on hagiography and also works that portray Reagan as a bumbling old man who ascended to the presidency almost by accident. Wilentz opts ... Read More
