Ron Burgundy's Game Notes
The manager decided to skip our fifth starter to pitch Peavy, and it didn't go well for Jake.
If our team is going to succeed we need our ace to step up and pitch a good game sometime.
They really smacked the ball around today, everybody who pitched for us gave up at least a run.
I like our trend of not giving up and scoring in the 9th once again, this time on a three run shot from Nick Hundley.
Barry Zito looked great out there, it could mean trouble for us and the rest of the division if he shakes off his bad year from last year.

Ron Burgundy's Game Notes
That's how you win your first game, nothing like a walk-off victory to set the fans into a frenzy.
Shawn Hill had a great first outing of the season, hopefully he can carry it through the year.
Another night, another closer smacked around by the Padres in the bottom of the 9th.
Man of the hour is David Eckstein, might have to take that kid over to the finest establishments in San Diego, Tino's.

Tim Lincecum (0-0, 5.14 ERA, 10 K's) vs. Jake Peavy (0-1, 12.00 ERA, 2 K's)

Ron Burgundy's Thoughts
Well, it's time for attempt number two on having a successful series. We'll call it an opening day retry. The Dodgers beat us three straight in the first series, but we get a chance to even up our record with three against the Giants. We got lucky and caught the back end of their rotation, but we still have to face Lincecum in the last game of the series. Hopefully we can hit Sanchez and Zito around before we have to face "The Freak" in game three. That kid is unhittable. You look at him and think, "He looks like the before picture in those Old Spice commercials". Then he throws that nasty hook at you and it's all over. Let's hope our offense wakes up in the first two games, because game three could get dicey. If we drop all three games of an in-division series it could mean trouble for us already. Anybody got Tony Gwynn's number? We could use another bat in our lineup.

Ron Burgundy's Game Notes
Another 12 inning marathon. Our starters have done a good job of going deep in those two games though so our bullpen is fine.
The offense continues to struggle, they really need to get going if we are going to win some games.
Talk about a shift in emotions, when DeWitt hit the homer in the 9th the place was dead. Then we scored off Broxton and the place went crazy.
Our team showed no quit even though one of the top 3 closers in baseball came in the game with a lead.
At least we played an elite team close in these games, we just need to improve here and there and we can contend.

Ron Burgundy's Game Notes
This was a classic Petco Park kind of day, not much in the way of scoring.
Chris Young looked very good out there, he only really made one mistake.
Even though our bullpen lost the game they continue to look great, they made their only bad pitch of the year at a bad time though.
If our pitching can throw games like this and our offense can wake up we'll be a lot better than people thought coming into the season.

Jake Peavy had a very rough first outing, I'm sure he'll come around in his next start.
The relievers looked great in this game. If we can get the ball to them and they pitch like this we have a chance to win every night.
Kevin Kouzmanoff really smoked that ball in the 8th and at least gave our team hope of pulling a comeback out.

Mr. Burgundy's Thoughts
It's a glorious day in San Diego. It's time for opening day at Petco Park. That's a great name for a ballpark and a great sponsor. I fill all of Baxter's doggy needs at Petco. Anyways, we are starting off against the Los Angeles Dodgers, these guys look like they are going to be really good this year. Manny Ramirez raked for them in the second half last season, and now they have him for an entire year. We have our top three pitchers going at them, and we are in our very pitcher friendly park, so hopefully we can shut their bats down and beat them at small ball. Well, it's baseball time. Ron Burgundy, General Manager starts his meteoric rise in the world of baseball today. You have fun at the game San Diego, and as always, stay classy.

Mr. Burgundy's Thoughts
Unique New York. The arsonist had oddly shaped feet. The human torch was denied a bank loan. What? This thing is on? We're live? Well super duper! I was given this depth chart by our manager today and it shows the direction he is taking the team into the 2009 season. We have two established stars in Adrian Gonzalez and Jake Peavy, so I'll definitely build around them. We've also got good young players like Chase Headley and Everth Cabrera who can contribute for years to come. What really stands out to me as areas that need change are the catcher position, we could really use either an established catcher to guide our staff, or somebody we could develop into our catcher of the future. The other spot that really sticks out is the back end of our rotation. Don't get me wrong, Cesar Ramos is a decent relief pitcher, but he's not really stacked up to be a member of our rotation. We are currently looking in our system, and possibly out of it to see if we can secure a fifth starter. We'll give him a few starts possibly, hopefully he proves that he can get the job done and we won't have to worry about adding to the team. Now get ready for the start of something special, and as always, you stay classy San Diego.

If you read my Orioles dynasty you know I ran into some problems with keeping the stats realistic, which is one of the biggest parts of OOTP. I've straightened that out now and I'll be taking more a GM point of view in this game. Hope you enjoy.

Things were just starting to look up for the San Diego Padres. The team won 88 and 89 games in consecutive seasons, and it was a forgone conclusion that the team would break out and make some noise in the playoffs in the 2008 season. Then the season rolled around and things didn't quite go like Padres brass had planned. The team went from a 2007 record of 89-74, just missing out on the postseason, to a game away from being historically bad, going just 63-99. 99 games lost, that's a lot of losing in a 162 game stretch. Fans were beginning to get restless. The team has been around since 1969, and they have never won a World Series title. The team has the ingredients to win, a great slugger in 1B Adrian Gonzalez and an ace in Jake Peavy. But it became clear the fans or the ownership didn't really trust the direction of the team, so it was time to clean house of current management and call the one man who garnered respect in every aspect of San Diego culture.....

Heyoo! Ron Burgundy here. Many of you may know me from my Emmy award winning work as a part of the Channel 4 News Team, but my friends and family know me as something first. And no, I know what your thinking, that isn't handsome devil. Although that would be accurate it's not what I had in mind. What I am talking about is being the first fan of the San Diego Padres. Nobody in San Diego loves or knows the Padres better than Ron Burgundy does, I can promise you that. I've been a Padres fan since long before our German forefathers founded this fantastic city built out of a slice of heaven. I've cheered them through thick and thin, mostly thin, except for those jerseys that looked like they were covered in thick baby excrement. One thing I've never seen as a lifelong Padres fan is my team take home a World Series Championship, and I think it's about time for that to happen. It's clear the current leadership wasn't going to get it done, and that's when something pretty special happened.

I had just had my third date of the night with one of Chanel 4's finest interns, what I like to call a slow Tuesday. I was relaxing in my AquaJet 9000 enjoying a great steak and a glass of scotch when my phone rang out of nowhere. The man on the other end informed me he was with the San Diego Padres, and they were in dire straights. The team was losing the confidence of the community and they were afraid that they'd lose the great city of San Diego forever. That's when they knew they only had option, they must reach out to the King of San Diego, Ron Burgundy. They knew if they wanted the backing of San Diego they needed to look no further than the most trusted man in the history of this town, me. I quickly expressed interest in their deal, and let it be known that if they wanted a winner in this town then I was the man they needed to see. And that's where it began, a lifelong resident of San Diego, Mr. San Diego as I have come to be known took the reigns of my favorite franchise in the history of sport. This is the story of how I, Ron Burgundy turned the San Diego Padres into the greatest baseball team of all-time! Now if you'll excuse me I've got to go get to some important and breaking news....

CANNONBALL!!!
