Ron Burgundy's Game Notes
Well we almost won two games in a row. I guess a streak was too much to ask for.
Shawn Hill looked great, but the manager kept him out there too long and he ran out of gas in the 8th.
Little Everth Cabrera has no pop, or so we thought. That's two homers recently for him.
Randy Johnson is still looking great after all these years, he hasn't lost much.
We get a chance to leave San Francisco with a split in the next game, then we get to go home and host the Pirates!

Ron Burgundy's Thoughts
Well here were are back on the west coast. This time we are pulling into the bay to take on the San Francisco Giants once again. This time it's only going to be a two game series, and we get very lucky since we don't have to face Big Time Timmy Jim. (Greatest Sportscenter commercial ever! Tim Lincecum is the man.) With a win in our last game it feels as if a weight has been lifted off the team, and we can work on catching up with the rest of the West, which isn't a long haul like it may look from our record. The division leaders are only at 7-5, so contention is still well in reach. And after this series we get to play the Pirates! That's good news in it's own.

Ron Burgundy's Game Notes
We won a game! That's super duper! Neat-o gang!
Our offense has finally arisen. This is a couple of games in a row where we are putting numbers on the board.
I have a feeling this game will start to turn things around and put us on a better path.
Kevin Correia has been rock solid this year, Heath Bell almost blew another game though, he might get pushed out of the setup role.
Nick Hundley has been our star hitter this year, and he was our biggest question mark coming in.
Where's Adrian Gonzalez? He hasn't done anything this year. He and Peavy were our strong points, both have been terrible.

Ron Burgundy's Game Notes
Make it eight games in a row. This is rough.
Our offense finally woke up today, too bad our pitching couldn't contain theirs.
Ryan Howard is a monster. That man literally scares me. I think he's on pace for a record season.
We finally have a hitter in Scott Hairston stepping up to the plate, it's about time somebody does.
One more game with Philly, then we have to play the Giants again. Where's the Pirates when you need them?

Ron Burgundy's Game Notes
Seven games in a row we've lost now. At first I could take it with a grain of salt, now it's getting embarrassing.
Second time on this trip we've been held to three or less hits. Our offense is just terrible right now.
What's going on with Jake Peavy? I could write off two bad starts as a rough start, but he's starting to worry me.
I'm already getting pressure from people saying he has a huge contract and isn't performing, I could be asked to move him this year.
I can't wait for this trip to get over and get back to sunny San Diego and my furry friend Baxter.

Ron Burgundy's Game Notes
Another rough start for Jeff Niemann. He was going against a great offense though, we just got to give him time to settle in.
Our offense finally got something started up in this game, and it was even against a great pitcher.
We stuck with the Phillies all game long, that's a plus. Six games lost in a row, not so much.
We moved Scott Hairston to the leadoff spot for this game, and he really came through going 3-4 with a homer.
We'll probably switch between Hairston and Jody Gerut in the leadoff spot based on Righty/Lefty matchups.

Ron Burgundy's Thoughts
We are taking just a short trip down the road, but it's not likely things are going to lighten up any. We have lost five games in a row, and now we have to go four games against the defending World Series Champions. These guys are stacked. Not only do they have very good pitching, they have an offense that can't be stopped. The team isn't just Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins anymore, Jayson Werth has proven to be great, and Greg Dobbs is on fire to start the season. This has been a nightmare start to my GM career. Usually I'm the life of the party and love to have a good time, but this is taking it's toll on yours truly. We really need to win some games.

We were so close, I could taste it. I thought we were gonna pull one out tonight.
We got the ball to our closer Cla Meredith in the 9th, but he gave up 2 homers in 4 pitches and it was over.
Our offense crapped once again, they are on an absolutely terrible streak.
Speaking of terrible streaks, this makes it five straight games we've lost, we have to pull one out soon.
The start of this season has been worse than the time the raccoon got stuck in the copier.

Ron Burgundy's Game Notes
Two hits?!? All we could get was two stinking hits?!?
Seriously, our offense needs to step it up, we aren't going to win many games if our offense doesn't pull it's head out of somewhere.
David Eckstein is utterly failing in the leadoff spot, look for us to try someone new there tomorrow.
The Mets are pretty much unbeatable if they have a lead after seven, Putz and K-Rod are are great 1-2 punch.
Kevin Correia looked very good once again, too bad our offense can't help him out at all.

Ron Burgundy's Game Notes
I thought things were going to be great after a Giles home run in the first, then that changed quickly.
We knew Carlos Beltran was providing the majority of their offense so far, and we did nothing to slow him down.
Our hitting is looking a letter better, but we still need to get more men on base to put bigger numbers up.
It was disappointing to see such a bad outing by Young, he'll bounce back to his normal form though quickly.
This has been a very tough first 7 games as General Manager, I hope San Diego gives me time to turn things around.

Ron Burgundy's Thoughts
Papa Burgundy is putting on his fancy pants, it's time to go to New York! We've started the season on a bad note, only winning one game in the first week of the season. But I can feel it in my bones, we are ready to turn the corner and start playing respectable baseball. The vast majority of our games have been close ones, it's a positive that we haven't been getting blown out. The Mets provide a challenge for us though, they are a very talented team if they can all get on the same page. Carlos Beltran has started on a roll, so it'll be our pitchers jobs to shut him down. We get a lucky draw though as we probably won't have to face Johan Santana unless they pitch him on short rest in game three. This is going to be a fun series, and for now I'm going out to have a drink or two, I love New York!

Ron Burgundy's Game Notes
Niemann had kind of a bad start, but that one's on us for rushing him into town too soon maybe. Look for improvement in his next start.
Tim Lincecum really is the freak. His stuff was nearly unhittable tonight, no wonder he won the Cy Young last year.
I'm happy we're scoring so much in the 9th, but it'd be great to score in innings 1-8 every once in a while.
Our hitters need to start just finding gaps and bump our average up some if we want to have chances to win games.
Our bullpen continues to look great, four more scoreless innings tonight.

SP Jeff Niemann Claimed Off Waivers
The San Diego Padres were in desperate need of a fifth pitcher, so they made their first move of the young season today. The Tampa Bay Rays put promising young pitcher Jeff Niemann on waivers to try to move him to AAA, that's when the Padres swooped in and snatched the 4th overall pick in the 2004 MLB Draft. Niemann has appeared in only 5 Major League games, all for the Rays last season. He's 2-2 with an ERA of 5.06 during that time. He has not pitched in a game so far this season. He is viewed to be a low-risk pick up since his contract is up at the end of the season and he is only owed $650,000. Many experts feel this huge 6 foot 9, 260 pound righty projects very well into the future, and he has four plus pitches that he can keep hitters guessing with.
He is expected to be rushed into San Diego in time to take the mound in tonight's game against the Giants. This may explain why Jake Peavy got the out of turn start last night against the Giants. To make room for Niemann, Cesar Ramos was sent to AAA. Ramos was scheduled to be the fifth starter, and will focus on things to make him a more reliable starter while he is in the minors. Niemann looks to face off with Giants ace Tim Lincecum in his first game, and the Padres just want him to eat innings while he works himself into a groove in his first ever full time starting job in the majors. If he projects the way their scouts believe that he could, the Padres may have gotten a steal in this waiver claim.
