NCAA Football 10 Retail Impressions (Blog #1) Stuck

I have the game in hand, here are a few impressions from my first five games:

  • Pass Rush is definitely an issue. If your DL isn't any good, you will get zero pass rush which IMO, is way unrealistic since everyone gets a pass rush...just sometimes not that effective. If your DL is good though, you will get a pass rush.
  • Sliders definitely have little effect on the game. I know there's a patch coming, but it's definitely hurting the experience right now.
  • Quarterbacks are way too accurate overall since there is no pass rush at times. However, quarterback accuracy overall seems much better despite the former, especially when a pass rush is in play.
  • The game is much more balanced. I've given up 10, 20, and 13, 10, and 17 points in my first five games. Those were great defensive outings in NCAA 09 and it feels like it's the average this year.
  • The tackling is better this year for sure, but I definitely think just from the videos Madden's will be better.
  • Penalties: Where did thou disappear to? I've had a couple of games which they were present, but some games they just disappear completely.
  • The crowd chants absolutely suck. The crowd on the other hand is standard NCAA fare.
  • Commentary is the same old tired commentary. What was once the best VG commentary team is now getting stale quickly.
  • My first game was with two TeamBuilder teams and they appeared just as I planned. Velma-Alma vs. Ringling never looked so good on a TV screen.

Diggler - I haven't ventured online just yet.

The players and responsiveness feels similar to previous years. They are still guided by some laws of physics but they do bend things a few times.

A lot of my offense is rollout passes and such (call me a cheeser AFTER you watch teams who do this in real life ) so I can definitely comment on the tackles. It seems to be 50/50. Sometimes, the DE's do magically break off a block, yet I can't when the same situation happens to me sometimes. It's touch or go.

thesteamontheboat - I'm not sure if anything exciting happens in bowl games, but at the end of regular games, you simply go to highlights. Nothing special.

Well, thank goodness for NCAA Basketball 2K8. It's sad this is still my favorite sports game 2 years later.

How much are the over-the-top tackle animations toned down? Is tackling actually wrapping up or the WWE moves from the demo?

kkman - The tackling seems much better than NCAA 09. As far as the demo, again, I don't really remember much about it except being way down on the game. I'd assume the game is a bit better than the demo since I actually kind of enjoy playing the game.

Have you dabbled in dynasty mode yet? I assume it feels about 99% the same as previous years?

I'm playing Dynasty mode right now Carl. It's pretty close to the same with some notable additions, especially in Recruiting. However, I'm not a fan of the dynasty mode right now as it seems it's been slowly but surely getting worse and worse over the years, and that trend isn't slowing down this year.

Thanks for your impressions, Chris. Doesn't sound too good. Might just stick to my orginal plan. Skip NCAA and play The Show until Madden comes out.

NCAA Football is the game I look forward to year in and year out. I search for an early copy, it kickoffs the football season for me. It's a sad time, when I don't give a damn.

I don't really like penalties but they are a part of the game so that's a surprise.
Why can't they get the chants right. Chants are done so many times it should be easy to record it.
