NCAA Football 10 Retail Impressions (Blog #1) Stuck

I have the game in hand, here are a few impressions from my first five games:

  • Pass Rush is definitely an issue. If your DL isn't any good, you will get zero pass rush which IMO, is way unrealistic since everyone gets a pass rush...just sometimes not that effective. If your DL is good though, you will get a pass rush.
  • Sliders definitely have little effect on the game. I know there's a patch coming, but it's definitely hurting the experience right now.
  • Quarterbacks are way too accurate overall since there is no pass rush at times. However, quarterback accuracy overall seems much better despite the former, especially when a pass rush is in play.
  • The game is much more balanced. I've given up 10, 20, and 13, 10, and 17 points in my first five games. Those were great defensive outings in NCAA 09 and it feels like it's the average this year.
  • The tackling is better this year for sure, but I definitely think just from the videos Madden's will be better.
  • Penalties: Where did thou disappear to? I've had a couple of games which they were present, but some games they just disappear completely.
  • The crowd chants absolutely suck. The crowd on the other hand is standard NCAA fare.
  • Commentary is the same old tired commentary. What was once the best VG commentary team is now getting stale quickly.
  • My first game was with two TeamBuilder teams and they appeared just as I planned. Velma-Alma vs. Ringling never looked so good on a TV screen.

A couple questions.
1: Do you feel like your input/strategy actually gets accounted for or is it still "Win by stick skills" only.

2: Are players that are rated pretty far apart easily disernable(sp) on the field.

pass rush is the worst in EA games, can't stand them just for that

Rudy - No, they're terrible in the retail version too...you can't even understand them for the most part. They are really kind of embarassing.

Skyboxer - I'd say you can tell the difference between a 95 MLB and a 75 MLB....but I think the difference isn't enough. It's there, but not as big as it should be.

I think if I was running a vanilla offense I wouldn't have scored as many points as I have as well...but running Urban Meyer's offense with NMSU has allowed me to blitz my opponents from time to time with offense. So many options

It stinks that the sliders are broken yet again. You'd think someone would have put that on the list of things to check after last year's outing.

I think that the flaws in this game can serve as a "Paper trail" leading back to the developers who worked on them.. flawed rosters 2 yrs straight, flawed pass rush 2 yrs straight? maybe the programmers responsible should be re-assigned?

Thanks for the info man,looks like I'll be canceling my pre-order tomorrow. I was kind of on the fence about whether or not to get it on release day or skip this year all together. Sucks, I've been buying this game every year since '02 but I just can't accept how there has barely been any innovation since the '06 version. EA really needs to figure out their priorities,or maybe they have and just rather make the easy mony than put out a good product. Madden this year seems like a solid building block so I'm going to support those guys even though the franchise is not where it should be going into this year. Only a little longer until Madden then NBA2k10 !!!

Are the player's slightly more responsive in the retail version? Last year the demo was clunky and the retail game allowed SOME control. This is the main issue from current gen to prior generation. Inability to CONTROL our players... user catching on a dime like in '05 and '06.

I guess my question is... can you go up and get a deep ball yourself and pick it up at it's highest point like in the prior generation games? The demo was horrible for controlling WR's.

LAST Question... can you scramble and buy some time with the QB's? Or do the ends magically get off their blocks when you tap the turbo button?

What happens at the end of the game? Do players shake hands or do anything?
