Bold Prediction Time: Madden NFL 10 is for real Stuck
Posted on June 5, 2009 at 01:28 AM.
As many of you guys know, I sometimes make predictions on my blog when I feel strongly about something. Here is one prediction I feel will come to pass: Madden NFL 10 will be the best football video game on this side of the turn of the millennium.

I know many hardcore 2K5ers out there will still proclaim blasphemy or worse, proclaim how pathetic it is for Madden NFL to finally be a game worth playing. While I do somewhat agree with that sentiment, it should also be noted that All Pro Football 2K8 wasn't the greatest game either. So part of the next-gen hex for Madden is probably not limited to any single company.

My judgment on this comes from looking at the same videos and digesting the same information you guys have all digested as well. This year's game just looks as if it will play much different. I'm disappointed in a few things for sure. But with yearly sports video games franchises, it's normal.

So officially count me in on the bandwagon, I'm a true believer in this year's edition. If it fails to deliver, I cannot imagine the firestorm waiting for the folks behind the Madden brand. However, I think that's not even going to be an issue when August rolls around.

What do you think? Are you a believer yet? If so why? If not, what gives you (understandably so) pause?

My dude, I am 100% with u. All the different areas being worked with the amount of work, alone, tells me that EA is NOT messin' around with the usual Madden yearly update, this time around. PLUS the fact that they have gone so hard to include the Madden community and hitting the media HARD like never before is another reason I don't see this not living up to what they are promising. Do you really think Ian and co would do all this expecting egg on their faces? Nah. They woulda done the normal level of community non-inclusion and the minor hype if that were the case.
All the vids I have seen, and I believe I have seen EVERY vid for Madden 10 on the internet, also tells me that EA has GONE IN on this one (NY tri-state are slang, there, if one doesn't know about "going in" - lol) like no other Madden in existence.

I am a believer to the 100th degree...

I won't believe it till I get the game in my hands and give it some time. I'll say that my eyes have been opened with some of the vids shown on here and reading some of the devs comments. I hope it doesn't disappoint.

I so wanna believe the hype but to answer your question concerning what gives me pause... It's that each and every year I hear the hype and get sucked in and each and every year I'm let down. That's what gives me pause! I hope this year is going to be different but I swear that if it's not I will never and I mean never buy into it again (I say that every year by the way).

I do appreciate the effort of the devs as mentioned above and it seems like they are listening and trying to make it right but I've heard it all before. I'm just not sure without a major rewrite of the core game engine they can make the improvements necesary to make the game great.

I could give a rats tail about all the fluff like the color of the cleats or that the players have their towels hung on the correct side. I just want a enjoyable football game to play. If EA can't do that then they need to give up the exclusive rights to the NFL and let others developers try.

I usually dont blog but I got to tell you the hype surrounding this years Madden has got me gas'd up and ready to go! I've been a Madden fan since 93'. I've seen the good and the bad, and been through the ups and the downs. I'm a EA guy...i hate 2k football. (but i must say i did cross over this year on the nba 2k side, here's to hoping Mike Wang can right the ship for Live) but anyway, to me 2k5 had the presentaion down to a science. from half time shows, to post game shows, from the post game interviews to Boomers week in review with trey wingo on sportscenter. Also the Superbowl celebration in that game is crazy. but with all of that being said in praise of 2k, their gamplay in my humble opinon sucked! So now that EA has made strides in their presentation dept. i must say i have not been this anxious for a video game since the first installation of Madden on PS2. I'm like u TreyIM2...I've seen every video online about this game along with the fact that I'm from Chicago and the whole Jay Cutlerpaplooza thing has ME EVEN MORE EXCITED AOUT THIS FOOTBALL GAME!!! I have been disapointed the last couple of years but I still baught madden...its an anual thing for me and my brothers. Its the pro-tak system, (the 9 man pile ups)-fighting for the loose ball mini game)injuries effecting the way a player runs or cuts up field(injury flat bed cart with trainers to take player off the field....crazy)...chain gang, reffs back on the field...all 7 of them! Fly overs, fan cut scenes, coach cut scenes, player interaction on the sidelines(along with that on the phone action...so hot...lets see some helmets go flying! along with online multiplaer co-op and online franchise...this game is leaps and bounds past the previous installments and has finally some what leveled off with a 5 year old game as far as presentation....so yeah...I believe...I always have, and you guys went hard this year and as a fan for the last 16 years I apreciate it! so fix that halftime show, along with your post game show and weekly highlights for franchise mode and you'll be getting thank you cards instead of bad press...i promise u... and oh yeah one last suggestion when u show highlights in a half time show or post game or whatever remember what u said IAN you want it to look like an actual TV style presentaion so a sideline view will be fine instead of those crazy camera angles ur already using. trust me everyone agrees with that. if you want to show those angles do so to give a different perspective on that particular play after u show the TV style sideline highlight first like they do on NFL Prime-Time. and last but certainly not least. the guys from NFL Network calling the games play by play are terrible...collinsworth is with NBC now right...for Sunday Night Football..you should use that team cause that other dude is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!! Aight, like i said, this year ea u did your thing! you got my bread and think about what i said...aight. im out!!!!!!!!! P.S. you boys want trouble in august on that 360.... or need someone to use the Bears in your franchise get at me.....my gammer tag is pepp32. just send me a message. holla! 09 IS OUR YEAR...SUPERBOWLS IN MI-YAYO....WE GOT UNFINISHED BUISNESS!!!!! BEAR DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

09 was supposed to be great as well, I'm not buying the hype.

But I'd still love it to be true.

Am I a believer yet? No. The videos I've seen look like the same old Madden. Look close at the each of the players and how they handle their assignments, it's just not impressing me.

I think this game could be great as well. All reports seem promising.

The problem, for me, is not the features or bells and whistles EA throws in, but the fact that Madden never felt as "real" as NFL 2k5. When my players move in 2k5, I feel momentum and control. Madden always, for me, lacked the feel of weight in the player movement. Just not as realistic to me. I see no reason why Madden 10 will be any different in this regard.

BRAVO !!! thanks GlennN .... im a 2k5 guy and yes 2k5 wasnt perfect but was better than madden !! it felt more real ... I must say that this year madden looks good but we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm a believer.

Note: This was said last year about 09: "It's probably the best Madden ever!"

I'm liking what I see, but I'll have to play it first before I make a statement...

@thehitokiri and GlennN - U know, I keep "hearing" how 2K5 had momentum and physics, yet, I have the game, played it SEVERAL times, even as recently as a week or so ago and I still don't recall this game having momentum. I DO recall Maddens on the PS2 having it, at least for a while, because it was the first thing my cuz and I noticed when playing the game and we thought it could be improved over time. I do know at some point EA took the momentum away. I was playing Madden 05 a few days ago but I don't remember if it was in there, neither. I will pop in both, today, and do a comparitive. I could be wrong.

At any rate, what I do love about 2K5 is the great presentation, the animations, the "little things", and just that feel of watching a football game while actually playing it. TOP NOTCH!!

Guys, I really think that will be in there for Madden this year from all that I have seen. I dunno if u have seen any of the clips I've seen but at least goto Gametrailers and search for the latest Madden 10 clips. They have the best I've seen to date.

Ok, this is the problem that I have with the whole Madden vs 2K argument. I have owned every copy of Madden since 92...I almost cannot sleep unless I play a game of Madden on a daily basis, I am a 30 year old Madden head. I spend 50-65 dollars each and every year just so I can play basically what amounts to a game with roster updates, 5-10 new animations, oh and don't forget whatever new big feature they add that year i.e. hitstick, weapons, passing cones. But nothing that truly sets it apart or revolutionizes the series from the year before. Don't get me wrong Madden is a great football game but consistenly lacks something and has never focused on presentaion, realistic physics, or animations. This is where 2K almost pulled the rug out from under Madden. Im not talking APF8 which was a joke. I mean 2k5 on the origional xbox or ps2. This game did more to frustrate me and other Madden heads because it gave us a glimpse of what Madden should be. The gameplay was not as tight as Madden but for 20 bucks everything else was far superior then Madden. If you can't admit that the players, animations, presentation, customization, commentary, half time show, camera flashes, player movement, hell even the crowd was better, then you are truly lost and you are one of the reasons that EA has continued to put out a sub par game year in and year out. Really look at the blocking, running, catch animations, CBs jossling with Dbs down the field, gang tackling (they just added these things 5 years later to 2010 but all of this was origionally on 2k5 on a PS2 get my drift) Ea knew 2k didn't have it 100% right but they were seriously onto something. I will continue to pony up my 60 bucks a year for Madden and I am encouraged by all the things I have been reading on the EAblogs but I still have this bitterness about why it has taken so many years to make an effort to give all of us die hard fans the things that we have been asking for years. There seems to be a sudden change in philosophy at EA so I hope they don't let us down with Madden 2010...did I hear that the NFL license is up for bid again in 2011...does that have anything to do with the sudden change of heart...makes you wonder

shavane - I know what u mean about the frustration of being a Madden head then going and playing 2K5. I actually had bought both when they came out in 04 and I was a bit sick to my stomach that Madden wasn't like 2K5 but, none the less, I got into 2K5 after adjusting a bit. I have played every 2K since Dreamcast and even owned the first 3 but I liked how Madden "felt", control wise, when it came out on the PS2. It was more progressive than turning on a dime like the 2K series had been doing and I actually didn't like 2K, at first. It felt like Joe Montana's Sports Talk. Charging up moves? Arcadey. No momentum? Arcadey. The first Madden on PS2 didn't go that route and actually introduced weight and momentum but EA didn't improve on it, going forward, and actually removed it, eventually. If there is one thing that would annoy me about EA and the Madden series is their old "logic" of addition by subtraction and they would add some of the lamest features, at times (Blocker control????Weapons???????).

Anyway, I didn't come back here to talk about the game, again. Just wanted to give the lastest link to pastapadre's Madden 10 vids. Enjoy - http://www.pastapadre.com/8826/e3-20...deos#more-8826
