Your Take: Should Bobby Petrino Be Fired? Stuck
Posted on April 6, 2012 at 11:36 AM.

In case you've been living under a rock, it seems Bobby Petrino was having an affair with a younger woman who was a part of the football program.

All of this came to light after his motorcycle crash last Sunday. As a result Arkansas has put him on indefinite administrative leave.

So the question for you guys is: Should he be fired for this and if not, what should be done?

This story is very sad and an unfortunate situation for all involved. Many fail to realize that a head coach, or any coach for that matter is considered to be an example and model for young men. Petrino's actions, in no way, whatsoever, present what leadership is about, especially from a moral perspective. As far as his remaining as a paid employee is left up to his employer and whatever contract stipulations he signed. If moral excellence was a factor in his contract then it does not bid well for him.

First I don't like Petrino ever since he left Louisville for Atlanta then left em high and dry. On that note the lying is wrong and sends a bad message to the kids he mentors. Should he be fired for having an affair? No... An affair is not against the law, but a moral issue. Up to him to fix himself ultimately... But man I'd like Arkansas a lot more if he wasn't there.

Should he be fired for having an affair? No
Should he be fired for hiring his mistress to an official position within the university? Definitely

Funny how 18, 19, 20 yr old college students are termed kids and young, but the same in the military are termed men and women!

So many others, TA's, instructors, coach's and administrators envolve themselves in the same sexual encounters, they just don't get caught.

Their business, they're all adults.

If your going to punish him because he did this and he's a so called role model, then you have to hold college athletes to the same standard when they do the same because we term them as role models also.

My point is this wishy-washy fake external show like Sexual Infedelity really matters in today's culture!

My personal stance on any sex is Biblical, so that's that and let there be no confusion on my statement below.

But, according to our current culture's standards, he should not be fired because the truth is what he/her
have done really is OK and accepted under those standards.

Lasty, people really do have a choice in whom they choose and lift up as a Role Model.

I personally don't render that role/position to just anybody and that's what I'm teaching my 5 yr old daughter.

He should absolutely lose his job over this. He has a "moral" clause in his contract, but personally I don't think that should matter. He is the figure-head leader and that behavior is unacceptable. If a coach can get fired over hiding impermissable benefits, then how can a coach not be fired for an affair? He is unfit to lead young men as he is setting a horrible example. Especially in today's culture when leaders who screw up are axed at the drop of a hat.

This guy has proven himself to be a jerk going back to how he handled his departure from the Atlanta Falcons.

I'm surprised that Arkansas even hired him in the first place.

Since he is coaching a state school in the South while "involved" with an employee of the athletic department...done done done done done.

If you an Arkansas fan the answer would no. Fans of other teams probably would YES! It all depends if it's your coach or not. I think maybe he should be fired but, I doubt he will. And really is that fair to players like Tyler Wilson who came back to school to play for a championship? He is not my pastor, he's a football coach. He got caught doing what many coaches probably do. Is what he did right? Of course not. But, doing what he did doesn't make him the spawn of Satan either.

To charter04 and khallib, no one here is presented an argument concerning sexual immorality nor biblical standards, which I myself am a Christian and hold those thins in high regard. However, as stated earlier if you will read and comprehend clearly. He "signed" a contract with a "moral clause", he "broke" that clause, therefore, it is up to the institution to deliver whatever necessary penalty they deemed fit to sentence out. Just as with any other violation of law or employee contract...

It's not a moral clause. It's any thing cosidered detrimental to the image of the school. I would say this fits. I was just saying that I still don't think he will get fired. They could fire him and not have to pay him a dime. It all depends on what Jeff Long and the school chanceler think.

Here is the clause. It is more to protect the University than anything. engaging in conduct, as solely determined by the University, which is clearly contrary to the character and responsibilities of a person occupying the position of Head Football Coach or which negatively or adversely affects the reputation of the University or UAF’s Athletics Programs in any way.”

Give him the "Tiger Woods" treatment, and call it a career!

At the end of the day, if the affair has nothing to do with whats going on on the football field, leave them alone.

quehouston...the affair does affect what happens on the football field. These young men look to their coach for integrity and leadership. If he fails in these areas it will directly affect there performance, being that it will be difficult to take to heart what their coach is saying and take that intensity on the field. Players especially at this age continuously talk about how much their coach means to them and how much they want to play for him.

As a Hog fan I have mixed feelings, but I know all of the SEC, especially the West, hope they can him. Who is out there that can do the job he's done that Arkansas can actually hire?
