NCAA Football 12 Looks Good -- But I'm Not Entirely Convinced Stuck
Posted on April 20, 2011 at 02:47 PM.

NCAA Football 12 has some real positives going for it thus far -- the improved gameday atmosphere, new and improved looks, and on the surface the new tackling engine looks like the game has taken another step towards real-time physics (without actually getting there of course).

However, while all of the above is all well and good -- here are the things I'm waiting to hear before my excitement level leaps into overdrive:

1)Improved Dynasty Mode with a Coaching Market. Dynasty mode has lacked focus the past few years, I want the focus to be on you running the program. College coaches are a HUGE part of the game, possibly the biggest part of college football really, and I think to neglect them the past several years is an injustice of the highest order. I'm hopeful given the realistic looking coaches in the NCAA trailer that this is something that was touched up and fixed this year.

2)Real TV Style Presentation. EA Tiburon has had a weird history with trying to meld a halfway presentation style. Tiger Woods, Madden and NCAA all suffer from this attempt to put you on the field (or course) while also watching the game on TV. I'm hoping that sometime very soon, perhaps this year given some of the cut scenes we saw in the sizzle trailer that NCAA developers just decide to go full-on TV like a few of their peers in our genre (all of whom have made the transition to rave reviews).

3)What was touched on the field? We don't know anything about the on-the-field product yet -- at least in terms of specifics. I'm watching and waiting for word on what's been touched here. Improved tackling is always a positive step in the right direction -- but is the tackling improved or were new physics introduced which also happened to take something else away? It's always a worry, so I'm on full on wait and see mode.

So that's the three things I'm really wanting to see in NCAA this year. I think NCAA will be the best football game on the market this year -- but the question is will it be able to live up to particularly solid efforts the past several years? What are you looking for before you jump in or are you already on the must-buy bandwagon?

So I guess you won’t be excited till June. They never release the good stuff until late, gotta build the hype. But I do like what I've heard so far, and with the subtle graphic improvements (3D grass and better lightning) this game looks amazing. If they can fix zone and man defense (which got broken because of the new locomotion engine) fix playaction and give me an online dynasty app like Madden they will have all my monies. But I’m really excited about what they still have left to reveal.

Isn't the embargo up today? Anything from ChaseB coming today?

Oops, nevermind. It's the 20th. Man I've been a day ahead for the past week.

yes...i want to see improvements in the offline dynasties with the coaching market as you suggested...i dont want it to be a full fledged mode, but just incorporate it into the existing dynasty...Also, it would be a nice addition to implement the Game Face feature for the coach too...this would add a great level of immersion...

has the frame rate been improved? did anyone else notice the jerkiness of last year's game?

I guarantee you it will look like the same ole NCAA football/madden with newer presentation cut scenes. A big whoopdy doo!

I want to see if recruiting logic (8 QBs on one team, while SS and MLB play FB)has been fixed before I get super excited.

i agree with JohnDoe8865 that irks me so much

I'm buying anyway.

But I'm STILL looking and hoping for word on "some" kind of Halftime Report. I can't believe its 2011 and NCAA still doesn't have that.

I agree. To show off the graphic improvements, I would like to see a BROADCAST CAM added.

In addition to the coaching market, online dynasties really need to have conference invitations. It's been in offline dynasties since the PS2 days, but never online ones.

Greater use of coaches in the game would be incredible, but yes, it's a must buy for me ....... Madden main reason was old.

I too am cautious. I get nervous when EA releases screenshots and videos all with the tight camera shots. I need to see playable camera screenshots and videos before I get excited.

Btw, having a broadcast camera is sports presentation 101. The MUST add this!

The alleged new tackling engine is what intrigues me. I want a demo...

#1 Coaching Carousel is a must. Maybe even some mention of "Hottest Coaches on the Market", which could simply be 3 or 4 coaches at below 5-star schools who have winning records over the last 3 years.

#2 Fix the depth chart glitches, even with my own depth chart, when I would Auto-re-order, backup safeties would be placed in the backup MLB. unacceptable in this era of sports gaming.

#3 Fix how the CPU recruits for it's own depth chart, 'nuff said.

#4 Fix the lack of responsiveness from the right-stick formation subs. I did a little searching on OS and unless I'm going crazy, I'm the only person who has an issue with this. I can barely use the formation subs, in particular on defense, because the game doesn't respond to the input and you only have 7 seconds to pick a defensive play. Ridiculous.
