Cover 0 & Cover 1
Posted on October 3, 2012 at 12:38 AM.
In this entry I will be talking about the Cover 0 and Cover 1

The Cover 0 is pretty straight forward. You have no deep help over the top. You are also probably sending 6 pass rushers in some combination at the QB. You could be doubling one of more players with a safety, but that is less likely. The main goal of the Cover 0 is to generate pressure to stop the run or create sacks/bad throws. They are a gamble, but when they pay off, they often pay off big. I recommend only rolling the dice with a play like this when you can afford to lose, or have nothing to lose and need to make something happen.

Pretty much the same plays, but the gap the Jack attacks changes. Sting Pinch also works well as a compliment to the Sting Pinch Zone we talked about in the Cover 2 Blog.

Where Sting Pinch and Gap Press were blitzes from 3 of the 4 line backers, Inside blitz overloads one side and sends the SS. A good time to use the show blitz feature and get that SS in the box. Feel free to flip this play if you feel you need to stop a run off the weak side.

Another SS blitz, which I tend to prefer over a FS blitz simply because you can use show blitz to put the SS in the box.I would crash the line right here.

I am not a real fan of cover zero cover blitzes or "double wide." Also, in Madden, the game gives them away by having the safeties line up over the WRs and letting your opponent know it's a cover 0. You DON'T want that.

The good old Cover 1 Hang, or Cover 1 Robber. Show blitz, make it look like a cover 3 pre-snap and user the SS.

A simple double OLB Blitz. Crash the D-line one way or the other and hang on. it's going to be a bumpy ride. Man coverage is always a gamble in my book. I would show blitz here.

A good blitz in real life that doesn't work right in Madden. If you don't have the following play in your book, I would flip this one and re-blitz the MLBs to turn it into the following play.

Show blitz again and hang on.

The name says it all. Crash the line left and to try and free up the Will.

Crash the line right, show blitz and let 'em lose!

Our final play, again I would show blitz to get the SS in the box. I also suggest crashing the line right to try and free up/overload the right side. You can also flip it [don't show blitz] and crash the line left to try and free up the Will.

I don't particularly like the man FS blitz. It just goes off too slow for my tastes. The Zone Blitz version can buy time with the zone coverage, but man coverage needs you to fire in there as soon as you can. If you like it, go for it. Feel free to even flip it and send the SS. I just don't care for it myself.

I know this is the shortest of the blogs thus far, but there isn't much to say. EA did a good job giving us a lot of man blitz combinations to choose from. Also, you just have to trust your guys to stay tight on their man while you send the heat. I tend to use these more for run blitzes and hope the man coverage can hang on long enough if it turns out to be a pass. However, I also tend to use the 49ers, and they are not built for man coverage. The Jets are though. With Revis and Cromartie, the can get some serious work done. The Ravens too. If you have elite man coverage guys, then put on some heavy metal music and let it rip!
