Today I would like to post about Dynamic Player Performance, or DPP for short. In this blog, for postarity reasons, I will be posting the original blog by EA. I am doing this so it does not get lost to time, as many of their articles tend to do.

Dynamic Player Performance – Detailed Look

So the big news for today is Dynamic Player Performance in Madden NFL 12. This new feature was revealed yesterday by IGN, but the now EA has come out with a blog detailing

Now that we know what the DETROIT personnel package is, and what coverages we want to expect to call against it, now we want to take a closer look at the Stack Cover 3, or really a 4-3 Cover 3.We will look at Stack/4-3 "Rita" or "Linda" later.

Here is a far away shot of the DETROIT Cover 3 page. In a little bit we will take a closer look:

In this installment we are going to talk about calling plays against DETROIT personnel. According to the 84 Giants Defensive playbook, DETROIT personnel are two Tight Ends, two Wide Receivers, and one Running Back. In a balanced set, Belichick has declared that the left side of the formation [video game right side] will be the default STRONG side of the formation unless otherwise game planned. Below is further explanation and a list of coverages that will be called against DETROIT personnel: ... Read More

A while back I came across a PDF of the 1984 NY Giants Defensive playbook by Bill Belichick. It isn't a complete playbook, and it has some things that aren't aprt of his playbook, but rather a hand out bout defensive line stunts... but regardless it is packed with a lot of great information. This blog and some future blogs will refer to this playbook and more that I have found.

Here is a screen capture of the defensive fronts called:

This is more of a quick tip rather than an in-depth blog, but LEARN YOUR AUDIBLES!

I use custom playbooks for Madden 12, but it still applies no matter what version you are playing. I am not only talking about your normal audibles, but more specifically your formation specific audibles.

You see, it's not only good to know what you have at your disposal, but it also keeps you from picking certain plays in the huddle. For example, why would you call HB Zone in the huddle ... Read More

We are going to take a closer look at the 4-3 Stack Cover 3 Buzz

I like this base play as a simple cover 3 look, but also because it is nice to build a cover 3 Will Blitz out of, which isn't in the game.

Simply use the Strategy Pad [D-Pad] and press left to activate the defensive line adjustments, then press left on the Right Thumb Stick to crash the line left.

In this installment, I want to talk about offensive play calling. Specifically, I wanted to talk about plays that are tied together. I like to call plays that will give the defense the same look, but turn out to be different in some unexpected way. This keeps the defense honest and on it's toes.

NOTE: All of the plays I will be talking about come from the Madden 13 playbook Facebook ap, but you can find them in Madden 12 as you create your own custom playbook

Today I want to write about my Madden NFL 12 Game Play Settings. These are the settings that i use to get the most enjoyment and most realistic NFL experience I can out of an otherwise unrealistic game. Sure, these settings won't fix very issue, but they do try to address a lot of them.

The biggest change I ever made came thanks to the advice of fellow OS user KBLover - Fatigue. I now use 100 fatigue with 3 Injury and custom coaching substitution settings.

I set every ... Read More

In this installment I will be talking about the Cover 0 and Cover 1 out of the 4-3 front.

Firstly, I cannot even find a simple Cover 1 Hang. A play with the FS in a deep zone, the SS in a hook zone, and the line backers in man coverage. I can find Cover 1 Press with the FS in a hook zone and the SS in a deep zone, but it is still a press play, even if I flip it. I want to choose when I press or not, not have EA decide for me. I really only press in cover 2 where I can afford to press. ... Read More

In this entry, we will focus on the Cover 2 out of the 4-3. I don't care for how Madden does defensive line stunts, and recommend on each play you simply crash the line left or right, preferably to the side you expect a run, or if you happen to be blitzing either the Sam or Will, then to the side of the blitzing backer to help free up the DE on that side.

A simple cover 2 man. I typically ... Read More

In this second installment of the Cover 3 defense, I will focus on the 4-3 defensive front.

Your standard Cover 3 play. Feel free to shift and crash the defensive line any way you like. I recommend to the left and show blitz to put the SS in the box. Also user control the Strong Safety.

In this entry I will be talking about the Cover 0 and Cover 1

The Cover 0 is pretty straight forward. You have no deep help over the top. You are also probably sending 6 pass rushers in some combination at the QB. You could be doubling one of more players with a safety, but that is less likely. The main goal of the Cover 0 is to generate pressure to stop the run or create sacks/bad throws. They are a gamble, but when they pay off, they often pay off big. I recommend only rolling the ... Read More

In this blog we will talk about the Cover 2.

Cover 2 Soft. Shift and crash the line left if you want to try and help free up the Will. Flip the play if you want to send the Sam. Don't forget to shift and crash the line right if you also want to help free up the Sam with an overload.

In this blog I will talk all about the Cover 3, which I find to be the most interesting to work with. Especially so in Madden, where people love to go deep and attack the middle of the field.

This basic cover 3 shell is great on first downs. You can use the "Show Blitz" feature to bring the SS into the box for run support. You can also feel free to shift and maybe even crash ... Read More

I wanted to create blog series about defensive strategy in Madden NFL. Unlike a lot of other web sites that sell you nano-blitzes or what not, I want to talk about how to use an effective simulation style defense to play against the AI and friends.

To begin, we have to acknowledge that Madden NFL is not a football simulator. It's a ****** representation of the sport with lots of legacy flaws, but that doesn't mean we can't still have fun with it. For example, the pass blocking in Madden ... Read More
