What is EA Sports doing with NBA Live 13?
Posted on August 17, 2012 at 10:45 PM.
With NBA 2K13 gaining more fans almost day by day, you have to wonder, what is EA Sports doing? There are many possibilities of what they could be planning, hiding, or holding back. They could have a huge announcement that they're holding back, waiting for 2K to finish with their big announcements, or waiting until last minute to cancel the game(hopefully not). Either way there is a huge problem with all of these strategies.

1. Holding back a huge announcement - Now at first this might seem good with the fact that 2K is releasing their gameplay information now when the release date is about 1 and a half month's away and NBA Live will have big news coming sooner to release date keeping the news fresh on people's minds. The problem is, more gamers are seeing 2K13 earlier and want to play the game. Last second efforts to market the game won't work unless they have commercial's on every single television network(I wouldn't mind). Many new gamers might be looking to buy a basketball sim, and for now can only find NBA 2K13 news and features. Day by day their losing brand new fans and gamers. At least they should show some of the small features now so some of the newer fans know that the game is there.

2. Waiting until last minute to cancel - This is what everybody is scared about and what all the insiders say is not going to happen. EA says their not cancelling the game and it will be released at the latest October 30, when the NBA season starts. There is a possibility that EA doesn't like the game and they don't want to have an experience like the last one(Jesus in NBA Elite 11, we all know this). The backlash from NBA Elite 11 was very hard. Now think about what would happen if they cancelled NBA Live 13. EA Sports would be finished for good, no one would trust them if they ever tried to make another game in the future.

In the end, EA Sports needs to come up with news right now. There running out of time to get any kind of success in NBA Live 13. They're already out of time in some fan's minds. Any information is necessary, it doesn't have to be a cover player, though it would be nice to put that out now, but there needs to be at least a feature in the game released. The clock is ticking on EA and they better hurry before the alarm sounds.

This is guy knows wat he's talking bout man. I've been tired of checking for nba live 13 on the web. They got me so frustrated by not real easing anything. They even cancelled their nba throwback Thursday's. I don't know wat the hell live is doing but it better be good wen info releases. Honestly I know 2k is a great franchise and all but for some reason I want to play nba live this year. So far if ea stays quiet like this they are not gonna attract any attention and gonna get a lot of harsh reviews if the game does not live up to future of BBALL hype

Oh yeah I heard some rumor that they are gonna release a trailer on sept. 3rd. Don't know if it's true but it's too far from now anyways

Live better do something quick or it will be over if it isn't already.

I think it's clear that EA are well aware that NBA Live isn't anywhere near the quality of NBA 2K. Realistically no one expected it to be. I very much doubt EA can afford another cancellation (although a delayed release is likely). I think the game will release late & with little fan fare. I feel EA's goal with their NBA game is not to better NBA 2K but to simply put a dent in the sales of the game in the hope that 2K's game may no longer be as profitable & therefore in turn give its developers concern about its long term viability. With NBA 2K seemingly the only sports title left under the 2K branding it wouldn't be a a massive step for the game to cease production if it stops being the big money earner that it currently is.

Dazraz - I agree and I think EA has held back giving up much because those guys devving Live need to FOCUS!! They know they're up against it and their best strategy is to focus on getting the code as tight as possible to possibly release some 10th-11th hour flood of info and vids.
At any rate, I think Live may have lost me. Analog dribbling is all I've been needing since 2K has a lot of other things very tight graphic, gameplay, animation and presentation wise. I will definitely give Live 13 a shot but at this point it's too overwhelming for me. All EA had to do was let Mike Wang continue to work his magic for Live 11 and beyond and by now, they'd probably be ahead of 2K.

I think they gonna end up cancellling like last year 2k is giving the fans wat they want the and the gameplay is just amazing gameplay the only thing lacked of last year was crew mode

They should confirm that a trailer is coming out september 3rd, It would make a lot of people stop bashing NBA Live. I really hope that in between that time from now they come out with something small atleast

Why would anyone be awaiting anything in regard to this game? When such an elite alternative is available? RIP Live

because live used to be the game on top, they know what it takes to be there

For the record NBA live was only on top in the beginning cause they were the 1st real NBA game (live 95) and if u see their not releasing any info and it's mid aug that means it's not coming out open your eyes pll RIP live hello 2k

you can't say that the game is not coming out, people just don't like that there is no news coming out so we assume that the game is cancelled, and yes it was the first game so people trusted it more but it eventually started producing games with no gameplay quality when the next genesis consoles came out, letting 2K pass them and a lot of trust was lost with 2K. Many people still believed in them (NBA Live 10) and right now many people do as well, including me. WE NEED 2 NBA SIMS.
no competition, no improvement

yea maybe ea is waiting 4 the madden to drop then push live...tiburon makes madden as well. so maybe tiburon head isn't letting them release anything till madden hit the shelves. all this is speculation but i strongly believe ea tiburon is trying to handling live differently then the way ea Canada handled it. but idk tho..... a cancellation is the easy way out in my opinion tho. a real message is them dropping live 13 and it's soild....not saying it goin to be better then 2k13 very unlikely...but somthin fun & enjoyable...

If they were going to cancel why would they wait and do it right before the NBA season starts or when 2K13 is released? Not sure how that makes any sense. If EA sees any trouble from a production point and the game is in jeopardy, I think they would have come out now. I agree with some of other posts, that perhaps, they are waiting until Madden, NHL, or -- possibly, don't feel the need to market the game this early as in year's past?
We'll see.
