QUALIFYING RECAP

A rather boring qualifying session with no visible surprises. Michael Schumacher claimed his 4th pole in 4 races, although his nemesis Mika Hakkinen cut it very close this time, losing by just 0.072 of a second to Schumacher. But still 4 poles are impressive and Schumacher is definitely looking to break Nigel Mansell's record of 14 poles in a season. It wouldn't be easy but Schumi is undoubtedly ready for this challenge.

RACE RECAP

The race day saw David Coulthard win an absolute jaw-dropper of a race. What makes it even more remarkable is that the conditions weren't crazy at all. The sun was shining and everyone believed that there would be no contest to Schumacher's supremacy after taking the pole. Instead the fans had a crazy amount of fun. Drivers/Teams...not so much. 12 of the 22 cars retired and only Jordan managed to bring both cars home today. But what's amazing is that Michael Schumacher actually crashed 2 times to drop to 5th place after a pitstop whilst leading the race for 4 laps. It was unbelievable, and most of the F1 world probably fell off their chairs in surprise. But the podium places were taken by two unusual guests; Prost's Mike Iceshore, who drove an excellently calm race to finish second despite losing his front wing with 3 laps to go; he was 25 seconds off Coulthard; and Alessandro Zanardi who managed to bring his Williams in 3rd, which was quite a surprise, as he qualified only 10th. 4th was Wurz, 5th - Schumacher and the last point was taken by Frentzen. A crazy race, but one that will be remembered for many years to come.

WEEKLY RECAP

A good week for the Hawks, as they haven't lost in regulation in 6 games. Although the Hawks have the most games played so far, but it's still nice to sit on the top of Western Conference. Still too early in the season to tell where the teams really stand in the NHL, but as of this far the Blackhawks are in nice shape. The coaches have to be pleased with the teamwork that the Hawks players have exhibited but that doesn't help the players stats. Nick Leddy is the leader with 4 points. That's way of the league leading Crosby/Malkin who have 12 points each. The first line of Toews/Kane/Sharp have made 6 points altogrther, 2 points each. That's very disappointing, but there is still time to rack up those goals and assists.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

No real standout player this week, as most players have about the same amount of points in the week. The Blackhawks have placed a heavy emphasis on the "team" aspect of hockey. It's not bad, but it is not going to entertain the fans much as there is no real outstanding player on the roster at this point. Still, there is time and a lot can happen in the next 76 games of the season.

I think that most people were rather surprised to find the Magic draft Huffman as early as the 9th pick. Earned in a trade in the previous draft, the 1st round 9th pick was the only one that the Magic had. He had been expected to be drafted 20th at best, but apparently the Magic have found a diamond in the rough with him after a couple of workouts. Huffman said that he was very glad to be drafted by the Magic and that he hopes to impress the team during the season. So do the Magic fans and the next season will show whether this is a bust or an ideal pick.

WEEKLY RECAP

The Cubs' pitchers earn their money big time in the last 3 games. Now it's 29 shutout innings for them. And with pitching like that, the batter job has been made much easier as well. It's an impressive run that the Cubs' are on, and, well... if the games keeps on going for them like this, maybe, just maybe the World Series is in sight...? But there's still a long way to go in the season, 33 games to be exact. Otherwise this week has been uneventful. Pitching has shooshed every team in the last 3 games. Alfonso Soriano, however had a spectacular game against the South Siders, with a 3-for-5 in the game, 4 RBI's and a homer. But still, the supreme pitching lifts nearly all pressure off the batters.

CUB OF THE WEEK

Rich Harden had, perhaps, the best game of his career against the White Sox in the 9-0 blowout. Although he did not have a perfect game, he played all 9 innings and gave up only 3 hits, with 4 K's to go with that. An absolutely ground-breaking pitching performance.

QUALIFYING RECAP

The star of the qualifying had to be Prost's Mike Iceshore. In a sunny qualifying with a wet track from a heavy rain shower during the 4th practice, Iceshore performed superbly to claim 4th position. Schumacher claimed pole, no surprises there, however what did come as a surprise was Villeneuve's poor 14th place. His average form would continue, come race day.

RACE RECAP

The determination in Prost's team's eyes had the fans guessing that a Prost driver (Guess who?) would be on the podium today. However, it was not to be. Though stellar in the first 2 laps, he made an awful spin in the second sector of the 3rd lap to drop down to 6th position and lose nearly all of the momentum he had. He was lucky, too; if he hadn't grown as big a lead that he had, he might have dropped even lower. But he still was the main source of entertainment for the fans: he rallied on to fight for at least 5th place against Ralf Schumacher, especially after Coulthard spun from 3rd to 4th position, to significantly throw off both Barichello and Schumacher junior, and after a nail-scratching battle, Schumacher edged Iceshore for the 5th place by just an 0.032 of a second. Nevertheless, the 6th place gave both Iceshore and Prost a very welcome point. It was a breathtaking battle. Other than that, Micheal Schumacher took a nice win to increase his lead in the championship, whilst his team-mate Eddie Irvine had a terrible race, when he dropped 2 places, and for some reason didn't have the pace to race for points. It is shaping up to be a fun season.

GAME RECAP

The coaching staff might have to... change their names. 2 horrible tactical choices prevented the Bears form reaching the Super Bowl. In retrospect, the 1st mistake, although logical at the time was the worst. The coaching staff decided to go for 2 after Hester's incredible full-field kick-off return. The conversion failed and the differential was less than a touchdown. But after an FG to make it a 9-point lead it seemed that the Bears had the game locked up. But, for some reason (coaches? over-confidence? egoism?) Tillman ran to his own endzone just to get tackled for a safety. Heck, still a touchdown lead with 10 seconds left. What could go wrong? This. Maurice Morris returned the free kick 78 yards for the tying TD and PAT. The Bears couldn't believe it. After that it wasn't hard for the Seahawks. Though the Bears played very inspired defense for the first possession after losing the coin toss. But after that it was all over. Neither the offense, special teams or defense could rally to salvage the victory. The Seahawks made a field goal and the game was lost. The worst way to end the season.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

Tommie Harris, Chicago's Pro Bowl DT had an excellent day, and he alone could have won the game with his defensive performance. He had 3 tackles, but the kicker is that all 3 of those tackles were sacks on 2nd or 3rd downs. He dismantled the Seahawks' offense and he should have been credited with the W for the team. At least something good in this woeful day.

GAME RECAP

Carmelo, Jennings and Thornton were just too much. And the lack of an additional star player to compensate was also too much. Steve Nash dropped 2 clutch threes to salvage at least a respectable score out of this game, and D12 scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebs. But the rest of the team did rather poorly. That's something for the management to think about in the off-season. And then there's the trio for the Bucks - Melo, Jennings and Thornton combined for 22 points and it was just enough for the Bucks to win on home court. And other than that it was a pretty uneventful match. And the Magic's problem has appeared to be fouling. The Bucks scored 11(!) of their points on free throws. Although we have the defensive player of the year in Dwight Howard, the rest of the team is rather average on defense and self control. And it was enough for the Magic to be eliminated. Roll on to next year, I guess.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

And again it's Dwight Howard. I don't know what we would do without him. The Magic are going to look for all the time possible to be spent with him, and he might just be the player who stays with the Magic for his entire career.

GAME RECAP

It's been a while since a single player earns the title for a team or even manages to win a series. But that's evidently what the Magic experimented with. Dwight Howard had an excellent game, the best of series. But the fact that he scored 87% of the team's points did not help at all. Turkoglu scored the 2 other points, but other players did literally NOTHING. They kept jacking threes (0-for-5) and did not seem to adjust at all. The Buck somehow tied the series at the Amway Center and are coming back home for Game 7. How did the Magic lose the home court advantage AND a 3-1 series lead? But, that won't be noticed if Game 7 is won, so you'd guess right that the Magic coaching staff and (hopefully) the players will be going all out. But another obstacle has appeared: Carmelo Anthony. The superstar small forward has returned and will definitely fight hard for this game. Q Rich is gonna have a hard time for sure.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

Dwight Howard. End of story. Too bad that his performance wasn't enough to carry the Magic to a victory. Strangely the Magic didn't seem to realize that.

GAME RECAP

One step. One step back was all it took for the game to go to OT. When Steve Nash made a clutch shot everyone in Orlando believed that the game was going to OT. But as it turned out, Nash had just barely stepped on the line. The referee was right beside him, and he noticed it. Only 2 points for the shot and the Bucks get another chance back in Orlando. They force Game 6 and this will severely cut in Magic's confidence. But they still are going to be at home and that means something in the NBA. But what the coaching staff is terrified about is the lack of versatility on the Magic roster. If Dwight isn't performing, the Magic become the Kings or even worse. No offense on him, he tried really, really hard tonight. He could eke out only 6 points and no rejections/steals. The team has their work cut out for the home game, and it will be an excellent game to watch.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

No player of the game this time. It was a team effort for the Magic, and, without a leader in scoring the Magic couldn't win. Had Steve Nash pulled the game-tying basket by not stepping on the line, he would have been the star, hands down. But he didn't, and Orlando have to come back home for Game 6.

WEEKLY RECAP

Another 1-1 week. And what's more disheartening is the loss against the divisional rival Houston in such a close contest. And the offense didn't produce as much this week. But our sluggers continue to produce in a very high ratio, which is... helpful. An excellent pitching job on the second game against the Twins got a nice 2-0 win, with homers from D-Lee and Aramis Ramirez. Just another week in the office for Lou Pinella and his boys, but it won't be long until the Cardinals can find a 2 win week and get ahead of the Cubbies. It's something to notice, and I'm sure that the coaching staff will look in this.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Although Carlos Zambrano picked up the win against the Twins, the reliever Aaron Heilman had a stronger showing, to play 3 shutout innings with 3 K's. For reference, neither Zambrano nor Marmol nailed even a single strikeout. He has undeniably improved his worth for the team with this performance, and has made his future better. Also, he didn't give up a single hit, whilst Carlos gave up 5 and Marmol - 1. Just highlighting his impressive showing.

WEEKLY RECAP

Could have been better, but these two games are really almost irrelevant. Of course, 3 points can always help, but it's way too early to tell anything about this season(Columbus is 1st in the West). The game against Colorado should have been won, as the Hawks lost from a 2-0 lead. But the rivalry game against Red Wings was a game where almost everything went for the Blackhawks. It was almost sad to watch the Wings fight so hard for no reward.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

This was a week where everyone could have been the player of the week because of solid team effort. Sean O'Donnell, however, performed the best, notching two assists and playing perfect defense, breaking up a lot of opponent offensive chances. It's unlikely for him to stay as the player of the team, but this week he earned the award fair and square.

GAME RECAP

Nevermind. The Magic are back on track easily. Putting the same performance against the Bucks which they had to face in Game 3 proved effective and the Magic are 1 win away from the next round. 3-1 in the series, but you gotta think that the Magic still are frustrated, knowing that the series could have ended today. Nevertheless, it's going to be very difficult for the Bucks to come back in this series. And what's impressive, is the cut turnover number on the Magic. Evidently, Stan van Gundy worked on this intensively, and it has paid dividends, with only one turnover in the game. It actually happened in the first Magic's posession, and it seemed just terrible. But everyone got their act together, and a 15-point win is just what they deserved.
For Game 5 the Magic go back to Milwaukee and the Bradley center, and you gotta think that this time it is not going to be easy by any means to win the game. It's the goal, and, for once, the Magic might just not want to come back to Orlando for this series.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

JJ Redick becomes our player of the game, and he has surprisingly pulled it off for the second time in the series. His 3-point shooting has been a big part of Orlando's game-plan, and, if he keeps shooting 'em like that, he can expect a much bigger role in the next seasons.

RACE RECAP

After the excitement of the first race, the Brazilian Grand Prix was a good way to cool down. Nothing unexpected in the race, with Hakkinen taking a hard-fought victory against Michael Schumacher. Start was really the most exciting part of the race, as Hakkinen grabbed the lead from Schumi and ended up holding it for the entire race, despite immense pressure from Schumacher all seven laps. In the qualifying, which was under partially wet conditions, Luca Badoer once again surprised the F1 world, by qualifying 7th for the second time in a row. But the Minardi's inferiority showed in the dry race, as he dropped to 18th position by the checkered flag. The most interesting battle of the race occurred in the midfield, where Mike Iceshore and Jacques Villeneuve fought for the 7th position. Iceshore made a great start, jumping from 10th to 7th by the first corner. For the entire race the 1997 world champion attempted to unseat the rookie. But it wasn't to be as Iceshore held on for the 7th place, however not having the pace to race for points. Then again, this performance proved the ability of the rookie Iceshore and, if he continues, he might just earn a point or two before the season is over.

PRE-SEASON RECAP

In a sentence, could have been better. The goal differential 5-6 is not that bad, but the last week loss against the Red Bulls really hurts. The team has to feel down by that and the coaching staff is, undoubtedly, pretty confused. Two draws which is bad against the Crew, as Fire lost a goal in the final moments, but good against the Jets, as Fire pulled the same feat off, tying it very late, to come back from an 0-2 deficit. A nice win against Mexican club Guadalajara, clean sheet for Pickens. But as well a horrifying loss against New York, a direct opponent. But the team has to shake that off immediately, it was just a bad night, and if they put such pressure to the opponent as they did in that match, during the season there shouldn't be any problems.

PLAYER OF THE PRE-SEASON

Paulo Wanchope, a native of Costa Rica is our player of the pre-season, and it just appears that he is going to earn these honors very often, as he scored 2 goals and notched 2 assists in 4 games. Not bad at all and Fire is going to need more of that from him, if they are about to make it to the MLS playoffs, as their board expects.
