Overview
With the 2010 off-season less than a month away, every team is trying to strengthen its roster, while maintaining its youth. One team in particular is the Washington Redskins. After finishing a dismal 4-12, good for last place in the NFC East, the 'Skins have fired GM Vinny Cerrato and replaced him with Bruce Allen. Also, they fired Head Coach Jim Zorn the morning after the 23-20 loss at San Diego. Looking for a new coach, the Redskins hired former Broncos Head Coach, Mike Shanahan. Shanahan, a two-time Super Bowl winner, is known for his offensive mind. It seems that he would fit the Redskin's bill as they finished near the bottom in the majority of the offensive categories.Draft
With the Redskins picking forth in the upcoming draft, there is a lot of speculation on whom the organization will select. Will they take a in quarterback Sam Bradford (Oklahoma) or Jimmy Clausen (Notre Dame)? Or will they take on offensive lineman in Russell Okung (Oklahoma State) or Trent Williams (Oklahoma)? If they pick an offensive tackle with the 4th overall pick, that about the second round? Do they go runningback? quarterback? The Redskins have a variety of options because of the various holes they have throughout their organization. What about the later rounds? Should they take a RB then? Shanahan is notorious for selecting later round backs and turning them into studs. Also, the Redskins need to make sure they draft wisely, as they only have five selections. They gave up their 3rd rounder when they chose DE Jeremy Jarmon in the 2009 Supplemental Draft and their 6th round selection when they traded for DE/OLB Jason Taylor. Jarmon has shown some promise, but Taylor was a total bust, posting a career-low 3.5 sacks and being released after one season.Free Agency
Other key free agents:
- CB Carlos Rodgers
- LB Rocky McIntosh
- OT Stephen Heyer
- S Reed Doughty
- DE Phillip Daniels
- OT Levi Jones
Another question is what base defense will the Redskins run next year? Many rumors show that new Defensive Coordinator, Jim Haslett, along with Shanahan will run the 3-4. The Redskins have also hired several personal coaches that have experince with the 3-4, maybe the biggest LB coach Lou Spanos. Spanos has been the LB coach in Pittsburgh, running the 3-4 there for 15 seasons. Another major coaching change is the hiring of Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shanahan. Wait! Is Kyle the son of Mike? Yes, he is.
There are plenty of valuable free agents that the Redskins can sign to solidify both sides of the ball.
Will DT Albert Haynesworth play the nose tackle or defensive end if they decide to run the 3-4? This will be a big question to look forward to. Haynesworth; famous for his 7 year, $100 million dollar deal; is atheletic enough to play the end, but also is big enough to play the nose. I hope is they decide to play this base defense, he plays end, that way he is more free to rush the passer.
Well, that will about do it for now.

They use there first for Russel Okung and also draft Dan LeFevour, also they should get a better RB because Rock Cartwright and Ladell Betts are both 30 years old :S they should also draft some linebackers that can play in the 3-4 defense there incorporating this season, and for the Jason Campbell situation they should re-sign him, he did decent when he had time in the pocket.

Thank you. I believe that they should do all of that too. I bet they will draft a RB because Shanahan is notorious for drafting them in later rounds and making them studs.
I just haven't had the time to finish this...

-LT could be a good fit, given that Shanny turns average RBs into good players. I think LT is done, but you never know in Shanny's zone blocking scheme.
-They will probably need to trade for Vick, but yeah, look what Shanny did with Jake Plummer.
-I think Doughty is a good enough safety, but either move Landry to an 3-4 OLB (my opinion) or put him back at the strong safety.

I agree Landry blows at FS, and he proved that when they played the Saints(stupid suisham)

Also I think some of there starters last year are going to be traded for draft picks because they only have 5 currently, if anyone would go I'd think it would be probably Carlos Rogers because I think this is his contract year

Yeah, I think players like Andre Carter, Rodgers, Cooley, and Landry all have great trade value. Also, I think resigning Rocky is a must. I was at the 'Skins game vs. the 'Boys on MNF, and when Suisham made that FG, I was so mad. I was in that section right behind those uprights. it was literally in that exact same spot where he missed against the Saints.

Finished reading the blog but I don't think they are going to start Reed Doughty unless they can't pick up a decent safety they should keep Levi I think Rogers is good enough to stay but they might trade him to get a draft pick they should keep Phillip Daniels as 2nd string and maybe give Jeremy Jarmon a starting position they should start Stephen Heyer , and they should probably have Haynesworth be the DT in the 3-4 they're most likely running this year. Didn't he play in a 3-4 in Tennessee?I really dont know didnt care much for him then or now.

Redskins need an offensive line in order to really see what Jason Campbell can do. The Redskins also need to beef up at the receiver position.
THey should draft a QB however in the 2nd or 3rd round. They also need to get a shutdown corner like they had in Champ Bailey.
