Overview
With the 2010 off-season less than a month away, every team is trying to strengthen its roster, while maintaining its youth. One team in particular is the Washington Redskins. After finishing a dismal 4-12, good for last place in the NFC East, the 'Skins have fired GM Vinny Cerrato and replaced him with Bruce Allen. Also, they fired Head Coach Jim Zorn the morning after the 23-20 loss at San Diego. Looking for a new coach, the Redskins hired former Broncos Head Coach, Mike Shanahan. Shanahan, a two-time Super Bowl winner, is known for his offensive mind. It seems that he would fit the Redskin's bill as they finished near the bottom in the majority of the offensive categories.Draft
With the Redskins picking forth in the upcoming draft, there is a lot of speculation on whom the organization will select. Will they take a in quarterback Sam Bradford (Oklahoma) or Jimmy Clausen (Notre Dame)? Or will they take on offensive lineman in Russell Okung (Oklahoma State) or Trent Williams (Oklahoma)? If they pick an offensive tackle with the 4th overall pick, that about the second round? Do they go runningback? quarterback? The Redskins have a variety of options because of the various holes they have throughout their organization. What about the later rounds? Should they take a RB then? Shanahan is notorious for selecting later round backs and turning them into studs. Also, the Redskins need to make sure they draft wisely, as they only have five selections. They gave up their 3rd rounder when they chose DE Jeremy Jarmon in the 2009 Supplemental Draft and their 6th round selection when they traded for DE/OLB Jason Taylor. Jarmon has shown some promise, but Taylor was a total bust, posting a career-low 3.5 sacks and being released after one season.Free Agency
Other key free agents:
- CB Carlos Rodgers
- LB Rocky McIntosh
- OT Stephen Heyer
- S Reed Doughty
- DE Phillip Daniels
- OT Levi Jones
Another question is what base defense will the Redskins run next year? Many rumors show that new Defensive Coordinator, Jim Haslett, along with Shanahan will run the 3-4. The Redskins have also hired several personal coaches that have experince with the 3-4, maybe the biggest LB coach Lou Spanos. Spanos has been the LB coach in Pittsburgh, running the 3-4 there for 15 seasons. Another major coaching change is the hiring of Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shanahan. Wait! Is Kyle the son of Mike? Yes, he is.
There are plenty of valuable free agents that the Redskins can sign to solidify both sides of the ball.
Will DT Albert Haynesworth play the nose tackle or defensive end if they decide to run the 3-4? This will be a big question to look forward to. Haynesworth; famous for his 7 year, $100 million dollar deal; is atheletic enough to play the end, but also is big enough to play the nose. I hope is they decide to play this base defense, he plays end, that way he is more free to rush the passer.
Well, that will about do it for now.

I hope you were joking about putting Landry at 3-4 LB. Anywho, the smart thing to do would be to tender Jason for a year as insurance and then draft a Bradford/Clausen to develop into a franchise QB.

I was kidding, but Landry is useless at the FS (move him to SS). Anyways, the 'Skins have Doughty and Horton (I like them both) at safety.
JC probably won't accept the one-year deal, that's the problem.

What do you mean he won't accept? lol. He doesn't have a say in the matter. He will be tendered as a restrictive FA. Only way Campbell is gone is if some team is willing to deal a 1st & 3rd for him or if we get an offer come draft week.
