Is 2K12 aware that their controls don't do what they're supposed to do a lot of the times?
Going up for a dunk, point the shot stick right of the basket is supposed to be rim hang, to the basket is signature, left is hop step, and away is reverse.
I'm in practice mode with Gerald Henderson (I gave him Evan Turner's dunk package). I point to the right of basket he did a reverse. I point away from basket he does what I think is a simply stupid looking reverse dunk. I point to the basket and sometimes he does a reverse, sometimes he does the sig. The only time the control does exactly what I say is on the hop step dunk (which is something that is impossible to do in a game apparently...)
So then I tried reverse layups. Going from the right baseline and laying up on the left side works fine. However, if I try the EXACT same thing from the left baseline he will NEVER do a reverse. Same thing with reverse dunks. He will do them from the right baseline and dunk of the left but he won't go the other way.
There are other times in a game where I press Y to jump up to contest but my guy will sit in a CANNED ANIMATION, like he's trying to draw a charge and get dunked on.
And is it just me, or is it time to get rid of the player automatically changing dribbling hands? I should decide when I want to crossover. And the escape dribbles this year, I swear to God, is like watching a mini-movie.
Anybody else find this highly annoying?
PS. On a side note, why does everyone shoot sideways this year? Like if they're right-handed (on a set shot) their right foot is always way in front of their left and it's almost like they turn their bodies when they jump up to shoot. Most NBA players I have seen are squared to the basket when they shoot, not turned.

It's very annoying; but i learned to deal with it. I wont nitpick about other stuff in the game, as i am okay with the patch and exactly able to play some decent games. Lets try and get these issues on a wishlist for 2K13.
cheers

It's about as annoying as it has been since 2K9, and unfortunately for us, VC seems to be quite content with it despite the complaints.

Well this year it just hasn't been good IMO. I'm looking forward to what EA has to offer next year because they over-hyped 2K12 WAY too much. 2K11 was better in my opinion. This year, it's like the CPU can do almost anything, dribble through traffic, dunk on whoever they want, and my team is full of idiots...

Yea, the controls this year are wack! Last year the control scheme was on point. How 2k managed to screw it up is beyond me. SMH.

the only real issue i have with the controls is when i have a player in the midrange area.....and i see the defender is giving him baseline...i try driving, flick right on the shot stick to do a right handed layup....but he goes up to shoot for it. for the life of me i cant ever get a full on drive to the hoop to attempt a layup in traffic. they always stop too shoot

yeah, I have the same problem man. Not to mention it's almost impossible to go baseline most of the time anyways...

They changed it to the way the ball handler is facing the rim, so if you are driving across the paint to the right, and press (2k cam) up he will go to the right side of the rim for a lay-up. Now if you press it to the right, he will do a reverse lay-up. Idk if this was in the insight but just something you had to figure out. But I do agree that players will not do what you want them to do, as in dunk instead of a lay-up.

are you playing with the right stick as "camera relative" or "absolute"? Playing with absolute seems to help these issues a good bit. Hopefully this helps better your 2k experience...

There isnt a command for rim hanging dunks this year, its only Normal/Sig dunks, reverse dunks and 360 dunks. As for reverse layups they are done baseline. All this is explained in the in game advanced control section

Seems pretty responsive me. Every move I want to do I do. Maybe your playing on 360. I heard controls are more responsive on ps3.

I had to change from my beloved Stadium Broadcast cam to the hated 2k cam just because the controls were bustin my balls so badly. I tried practicing with a side cam to get better, but it's just much, much easier to control certain moves on the 2k cam, especially the hopsteps and layups. Hopefully I'll learn to like the 2k cam more with time.

The problem is not with the controls, its with 2K Sports dynamic "momentum" system in which the AI dictates how quickly your controller responses will be. Its become quite obvious that when you have momentum on your side, the controls always work perfectly. And when your opponent is on a run, the controls magically stop responding as smoothly as they were a few minutes prior.
2k basketball has become a canned animation and team rating based mess. Stick skills really dont mean much in this game any longer if you know how to generate momemtum and get the AI to help you stay on a run. And if you are using one of the top teams like the Heat, you will always be on a run and can do no wrong.
