Fixes that 2K12 NEEDS
Posted on November 29, 2011 at 03:52 PM.
Defense:

Why does it feel like we are on ice while the CPU can quickly change direction. My players keep sliding even when I react at the right time and the CPU just runs right on past.

Help defense is God-awful. My players help out at the most idiotic times. I didn't call for a double-team but my teammates think it would be wise to leave Ray Allen to double up on Jermaine O'Neal. They switch for NO REASON. And why is it that the PG ALWAYS runs to the middle of the lane on fast breaks and from there on for that possession, no one is guarding the right person. I could understand if my SG were guarding their SF and vice versa. But it ends up being my PG on a C, SG on a PF, PF on a PG, SF on a SG, and C on a SF. WHY?!?!?!

Controls:

Why is it that the controls do not do what they are told to do? If I want to attempt a Euro step, then attempt a EUROSTEP. If I want a a turn around hook, don't have my player jump into a contact CANIMATION shot.
PASSING SUCKS, I can't even get into that, it just needs a complete overhaul.
For God's sake, please get rid of all ridiculous canimations that play out over and over and over and over and over.........
Get rid of the game changing my players shot when anyone is within 3 feet, I'll decide if I want to change my shot or not, If I don't change the shot, then they shouldn't change their shot, they should just go up strong.

Offense:
People have been raving about the play calling and it is pretty good, but my Lord, why are there sooo many plays where you just stand there and dribble at the top of the key forever??? Not every possession goes for 20 seconds of the shot clock.

By the way, can we not get a Game Style where they completely get rid of game sliders and the game plays based ONLY on player attributes and tendencies???

I have another blog entry for things that weren't done well with 2K12. I just hate being told how great this game is and then it only plays out great 1 time for every 10 times I play it. I just want a game to play well every time, especially if I pay $65 for it. Personally, I think the demo played smoother.

I've shelved the game until the big gameplay patch and have gone back to 2K11. I can see the potential in 2K12, but the game is very frustrating in its current form.

Yeah, it really is. Something that I forgot is that when there is A LOT of contact on a shot or somebody gets hit on his jumper and falls, there is almost never a foul called. However, when there is little or NO CONTACT AT ALL a foul IS called... it's frustrating because I watch A LOT of basketball and I'm a coach so it gets annoying seeing key, fundamental things overlooked.

I've shelved it myself until the lockout is over and I can use the rookies. I figure there is no point in continuing the association of my player I have now, if I'm just going to restart when the lock out is over.To be honest I think the gameplay is pretty good, the whole to many 3's by cpu being made has been cleared up. The only thing I want patched now is the trade logic in Association and MY Player modes.

I went back to playing 2K11 because of the lockout and the lack of rookies. 2K11 is hands-down the better game. It is the best basketball game made to date. 2K12 took a major step backwards. I can't even describe it. The graphics, presentation and some of the new features are much better in 2K12 yet this game still bothers me. When I play a game in 2K11 I feel like I'm playing a real game of basketball, at least as real as a video game can get. I'm praying for another patch to clear things up and hoping with the rookies and updated rosters I'll get into 2K12 down the road. For now it just collects dust. Not worth the $65 if you ask me. Way over-hyped.

Hate to disagree, but Im going to.
2k12 is the better game.
if you want the plays to run quicker run the quick plays. each player has a qucik play. if you want more in depth plays then you use the more in depth plays.

2k12 does so many things better. and the stats are so deep this year. they break down the stats of players based on how they do in wins, losses, against certain temas, all the way down to points per quarter.
the general team stats are broken for certain stats, but thats an easy code to fix (hopefully)
the live ball in this game is so awesome. you have to play controlled basketball.
and the fast breaks are great.
the blocking fouls etc. nice, nice nice,
and teh canimatiosn are kept to a minimu.
learn to play controlled bal in every aspect and teh issues of passing etc disappear.
and speaking of passing, its great to see that if you throw a pass to your player and hes not looking in the direction if the pass, it will be a pass that goes out of bounds, or stolen. thats such a great touch.

as far as gameplay, the little things in this game are above and beyond anything Ive seen in a basketball game ever.

yes it has its quirks, but man its great. I honestly dont know what version some people have, or what settinsg they are using, cause the issues folks complain about are very minimal.

I have no idea what game you are playing, but that is not the experience I am having. Glad you're having a good time, because tonight I decided to sit it on the end of the bench because to me... it sucks and I try to play as close to real life as I possibly can.

I agree with tril on this one... I'm not sure why 2k12 is getting all the negative feedback... I think allot of it has to do with the fact that there has been no NBA Season, and, people are looking to 2k for their "real" basketball fix...

Have to remember folks, it is a video game... There will be things that are unrealistic...

I don't have any of the issues the OP listed... Like tril said, their are "quick plays" for every player on the floor... Also, if you watch an NBA game, the few times that they do "run a play" it does take a long time... There are more teams that play slower than there are Phoenix Suns / New York Knicks / Golden State style teams that get up shots as quickly as possible...

If your not getting through plays quick enough, pick a different playbook, change your coaching tempo and so on...

As far as controls go... If you don't "understand" them, then yes, your not going to like them... If you coming from NBA Live, a game where you could pull off any move and anytime regardless of momentum / physics then yes, your not going to like them... But if you understand realistic player movements and realistic physics / animations, then you will appreciate the fact that are certain things that you simply CAN NOT pull off in certain situations...

They went way TOO far with physics and momentum this year, that's the problem. And the controls just feel unresponsive to me compared to last year. I would go back to 2K11 and download a current roster from 2K Share but oh wait..... they shut down the servers..

# 9 MNHuskerman @ Nov 30
They need to get those servers back online pronto for 2K11! What happened to the recent release stating they would leave the servers open until April? Not very happy right now. Once a patch or two come down I will probably switch over to 12 though.

Good Post. Finally somebody notices how bad the defense is this year. I that I just suck but it's almost impossible to stay in front of your man because I just keep sliding. Passing needs to be overhaul for real. I think they need to get of sliders and let the player's. It can't be that when against the Miami Heat and everybody is hitting all types of three's and fadeaways. Great Post again man finally somebody see's the same issues in this game I see.

Thats the problem..play it like a video game and stop with the real life stuff...the game isnt programmed close to anything that real life displays.

thats insane that you see one way you play dont work BUT you still continue to play that way...PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT..

I thought the samething until I took my time and learn the in and outs of the game..

or maybe this game just isnt for you if you think some miracle patch comes out and make it any thing close to real life...the bigger the patch the more the door opens for greater error

Well I like 2K11 better. I think it plays a lot smoother than 2K12. Also they removed some KEY FEATURES in 2K12 that were loved in 2K11. Such as the ability to edit players ages( which is really needed because of the lack of players due to the lock out).. Also not being able to add LEGENDS to teams & franchise is a killer for me***I know about the workaround*** Another thing is I am still waiting for a LEGIT ALL STAR WEEKEND with SLAM DUNK CONTEST... Last although this is a game - it is a basketball SIMULATION. I dont run-n-gun, I play it realistically. Game or not

2k11 isn't that great. It has it's own control issues. The main issue with the control is the speed of the game. Set your speed to 54-58.

You will find an incredibly smooth game and the response time is great. The problem is I don't play against the AI. So online I'm screwed.

When they first announced they were slowing the game down in 2k10 I knew this was going to cause a problem. And it did.

It made the controls sluggish.

I don't know what happened to the passing game. Once again before they started slowing the game down in 2k10 passing was not an issue.

What 2k needs to do is start with 2k8. The dribbling and passing system was at it's pinnacle of the series.

Start there. Because every game they have released since then has gone down hill as far as game play.

I don't know what happened to the passing game. Once again before they started slowing the game down in 2k10 the passing game was not an issue. The ball went where you wanted to. They would even throw the correct bounce pass.

"and speaking of passing, its great to see that if you throw a pass to your player and hes not looking in the direction if the pass, it will be a pass that goes out of bounds, or stolen. thats such a great touch." —tril

I'd be fine with this happening if it didn't also happen that when you throw a pass and the CPU is not looking, the opposing player magically predicts where the ball is going and grabs it right out of the air. I mostly play My Player and I can't count the number of replays I've watched where My Player's hands go up to pass the ball and the opposing player's hands go up in PERFECT SYNC as if he can read my mind. It's garbagey.
