Decided to start a GM mode with the LA Kings. I really enjoy their play style and the type of players on their team such as Richards, Brown, Quick, Doughty and more. Their team is big bodies and tough, physical hockey. Quick can also lead in net with Bernier behind him, growing to also be a possible starting goaltender. I did not do a fantasy draft for this GM mode, and I will simulate until 2020 and update this with draft picks, trades and more. Once I get to 2020, I may start playing then.

AND THE LOS ANGELES KINGS HAVE WON THE STANLEY CUP! Wow! Amazing playoff run. Came back down 3-0 against Chicago to go on and win. The team's ability to bounce back after losing is amazing. Down 2-0 in Calgary series to come back and win 4 games. Forcing game 7's and coming out on top! Both Tampa Bay and LA were 6 seeds. I had home ice for only the Finals. Simon Gagne lead the team in goals with 9 during the playoffs, Doughty with 13 assists, Kopitar with 16 points and Scuderi with +7. Quick was 16-5 with a 1.68 GAA and a .945 SV%. Amazing. Already knocked off one goal and looking to continue moving forward and possibly repeating as the Stanley Cup Champions! 2012-2013 Season next!

Draft went pretty well. Could have maybe been a bit better, but hopefully some of these guys will still grow since they're 17 or 18. I picked up that draft pick from Edmonton at the deadline, and it paid off. Got the 3rd overall pick and selected Yakupov. Really wanted Grigorenko, but selected him in my last GM mode. Would have picked a guy named Pontus Aberg who turns out pretty good, but I wanted a lefty lol. Time to resign some guy and start the next season!

Another early knock out... I am just going to sim until 2020 probably, and then start playing. I won't update much, just major stuff from 2015-2020, because it will take too long to continually update.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright so here is where I stand right now. Currently I am playing the 2016-2017 season. I am 1-4-0 so far, don't know if it's road play (I always seem to struggle on the road) or just haven't been playing much or what. Just won 3-0, so that is a good sign, and this 5 game road stand to start the season is over now.
Couple of young guys who are contributing and I have expectations in are:
Thierry Comtois, a FA signing who is a C PLY at 81 overall. He is 23 years old 6'2" 188 lbs and has B- B- B- potential. He has all 84-86 for offense and mostly 82s for all defense. Athleticism is all 80-85.
Nick Ritchie is a 79 overall LW PWF. I drafted him 6th overall in 2014 and he is now 20 years old at 6'2" 215 lbs. He is really an amazing depth player, at least in my opinion. He has potential to be a shut down player on the 3rd/4th line. He has all mid 70s for offense and all UPPER 80s for defense (89 89 88 92 86 89 87 88). I may have to place him at center with an 86 face off rating, very good. His athleticism is pretty good as well, with 83 speed. He is a big body and is definitely a key part to my defense for my bottom 6 players and my penalty kill. He has B- A B potential. Amazing player.
Jordan Tkatch, selected 14th overall in 2015 by the Kings. He is a 78 overall C TWF with A C- C potential. He is 23 years old, 6'2" and 205 lbs. Yeah, the C- isn't looking good, but the offense is. He is there to be a bigger body and hopefully provide some depth scoring with his 86-89 for all offensive skills. His defense is all lower to mid 70s though.
Alex Carnevale, a 3rd overall pick in 2013 by the Kings. He is now 79 overall as a LW SNP. He is just 21 years old at 6'2" 175 lbs. He has B A- B potential, which makes him a solid all around player. His offense is only in the 81-85 range, which I hope will get up to mid to upper 80s. His defense though is pretty good, all 82-87 and he still has A- potential as a sniper. Also his athleticism is all 83-86.
Joel Hamilton, a 25th overall pick in 2014 by the Kings. He is 81 overall and a LW PLY. He is now 22 years old and 6'2" 180 lbs. He has B C- B potential, which doesn't make him the greatest but he can provide some offense. All 82-85 for offense and mid 70s for defense. He has 85 speed and can be a great depth scorer.
Vincent Marcoux is a 24 year old 6'2" 171 lbs LW PLY. I signed him from the FA and he now has B C B- potential. Marcoux is a good depth player, 4th line usually. He has upper 70's for defense and mid 80s for offense. Just wish he was a bit better on defense, but he can always improve.
I've got some other people in the minors, but they aren't really contributing to the team atm. Some of these players are also on defense, including Kenton Helgesen. He is now 80 overall and still has B B B- potential. He could be a solid 3rd line defensemen or better in the future. Might call him up sometime during the season for some NHL experience. Another guy is Ville Pokka, a real stud on defense, or at least potential to be. He has all upper 70 to lower 80s for offense, and mid 80s for defense. He does however has B- A- C potential, providing a possible shut down defensemen on the 3rd line eventually. Goalies right now are pretty strong. I have an 84 overall backup for Quick in the NHL, still with A- reflexes and that player is Austin Smith. I also have 2 guys in the AHL, both at 83 overall. Their potentials are B C- C and B- B- B-. No franchise goaltender, but still a decent backup.
I know that the players mentioned above who play on my 3rd/4th line are not very defensive. As 3rd and 4th line players, you want some good defense. However, I feel that if I can get enough scoring I can win. Also these guys can still developed and are being trained defensively. I have a few guys I can toss into the mix and juggle lines at the bottom in order to see the most effective depth lines. My team overall is 100, with 100 at off, def and goalies.

This is my new lineup. As you can see, a lot of new guys. Cap room is an issue. I just signed Doughty and Quick, and they are both at around 11M deals. So the younger guys are now taking over. Many have developed well, and the guys who are just 83 overall are usually strong defensively. I have a lot of hope in Baptiste, I feel he can be a star for my team. Also Kobasew is a big body PWF who can be an effective 3rd line player. Quick is now 97 overall and a start goaltender, leading the team to their 2nd Stanley Cup last season. I am now going to play this season, without simulating. I am not going to focus so much on draft picks now. However, I did trade away people like Mike Richards and others for picks. I needed the cap space and wanted younger guys>older ones.

Game 1 - LA 5 WPG 1
Stafford (1), the rookie, scored on a power play to start the game (from D Brown and Murray). Then J Brown (1) scored with the assist to Quick. Yakupov (1) scored an unassisted goal at the 6:01 mark and following that was J Hamilton (1) from Kopitar and Helgesen. With 36 seconds remaining in the 2nd period, Helgesen (1) blasts one from the point to put the Kings up 5-1. No 3rd period scoring. First star Helgesen (1 G,1 A), Second star J Brown (1 G, 0 A) and your third star Quick (1.03 GAA, .957 SV%, 23 SA)
Game 2 - LA 2 FLA 0
All the scoring was early on and started off with a goal by Dustin Brown (1) just under 4 minutes into the game (assists to Yakupov and Kopitar). At the 8:30 mark of the first period, Anze Kopitar (1) buried a rebound into the back of the net for a power play goal, with assists to D Brown and Yakupov. First star Dustin Brown (1 G, 1 A), second star Anze Kopitar (1 G, 1 A) and your third star, Jonathan Quick 0.00 GAA, 1.000 SV% 15 SA.
Game 3 - LA 4 TB 1
Just 5 minutes into the game Anze Kopitar (2) buried one into the back of the net because of a mistake by Tampa Bay goaltender Jonathan Bernier (assist to Murray). Stamkos scored for Tampa with 5 minutes to go in the 1st period. After that it was all LA, as Drew Doughty (2) blasted his first and second goal of the season (assists to Murray and Brown on the first goal and Murray and Carnevale on the second). With 40 seconds to go in the 3-1 game, Tampa pulled their goaltender and Baptiste (1) was able to score on the empty net (assist to Kopitar and Yakupov). First star Drew Doughty (2 G, 0 A), second star to Ryan Murray (0 G, 3 A), and your third star of the night was Anze Kopitar (1 G, 1 A).
Game 4 - EDM 1 LA 0
Mostly a defensive game, though I did have a couple chances. Only goal of the game was scored by Edmonton's Taylor Hall (4). First star Devan Dubnyk (0.00 GAA, 1.000 SV%, 14 SA), second star Taylor Hall (1 G) and the third star Ladislav Smid (1 A). Edmonton is 5-0-0 and LA is now 3-1-0.
Game 5 - Van 1 LA 2
With 11 minutes remaining in the first period, Dustin Brown (2) buried one into the back of the net. Then in the 2nd, Vancouver tied it with a goal from Tardif-Riohard. Halfway through the 2nd period, Josh Brown (2) blasted one from the point to score the eventual game winning goal.
Smith (1-0) - 22 SA, 21 S, .957 SV%, 1 GA, 1.00 GAA
Game 6 - Dal 0 LA 2
Again, another defensive battle. Daniel Asham (1) managed to slip one past Lehtonen for his first goal of the season, giving the Kings a 1-0 lead with 7:38 remaining in the 3rd period (assist to Helegesen). Ryan Murray (1) finished it (unassisted) with an empty net goal late in the game, sealing the 2-0 victory for the Kings. First star Jonathan Quick (0.00 GAA, 1.000 SV%, 22 SA), second star Kari Lehtonen (1.01 GAA, .958 SV%, 24 SA), and your third star, Daniel Asham (1 G).
Game 7 - Chi 1 LA 4
Continuing the dominance on defense, the Kings win again only allowing 1 goal. Outscoring the opponent 18 to 4. Carnevale (1) opened the scoring of this game with beautiful goal 5 mins into the first (Baptiste and Murray with the assist). Then, late in the 2nd period, Ville Pokka (1) blasted one from the point giving the Kings a 2-0 lead (assists to Springer and D Brown). Chicago came back early in the 3rd period with a goal from Toews (3). However, the Kings answered with a goal from Yakupov (2) just 2 minutes later (picking up the assists were Kopitar and J Brown). Then Yakupov (3) netted his second goal of the game into an empty net (from Stafford and D Brown). First star Nail Yakupov (2 G), second star Jonathan Quick (1.00 GAA, .960 SV%, 25 SA), and your third star Ville Pokka (1 G).
Game 8 - Det 0 LA 4
Powerplay was deadly this game going 3/4. Yakupov (5) and Kopitar (4) both netted 2 goals, Yakupov scoring both on the PP and Kopitar scoring 1 on the powerplay. Stafford and Doughty had an assist on Kopitar's goal off a rebound with 6 minutes remaining in the second. Then the Kings ran away with the lead when Kopitar buried his second of the game just 30 seconds in the third period (assists to Yakupov and Murray). Yakupov sniped on from outside the circle just 4 minutes later (assists to Doughty and Hamilton) and then scored again with 5 minutes remaining for his second of the game (assist to Carnevale). First star Nail Yakupov (2 G, 1 A), second star Anze Kopitar (2 G) and your third star Jonathan Quick (0.00 GAA, 1.000 SV%, 18 SA)
Game 9 - CBJ 4 LA 3 OT
Gordon started the scoring for Columbus with a goal in the first, followed by a goal by Alonge in the second period. Then there was a lot of scoring as Helgesen (2) shot a rocket from the point (assist to Carnevale) and then Brassard answered back for Columbus with a goal 2 minutes later. Then Carnevale (2) scored (assists to Baptiste and J Brown) and then with 28.2 seconds left, Ryan Murray (2) shot past the many bodies in front of the net to tie the game and force an overtime. In overtime, Brassard scored for Columbus with just 2 minutes remaining, giving them the win. First star Derrick Brassard (2 G), second star Alex Carnevale (1 G, 1 A) and your third star Coda Gordan (1 G).
Game 10 - LA 0 ANA 1 SO
Not much offense this game. 0 goals scored during the game and the game went to a shootout. With a minute in the third period, I had a PP and 30 seconds later it turned into a 5 on 3 PP for me. I wasn't able to capitalize however, I did have a very good chance that hit the iron though. Corey Perry scored for Anaheim in the shootout, the only goal, which gave them the win. First star Christopher Gibson (0.00 GAA, 1.000 SV%, 21 SA), second star Jonathan Quick (0.00 GAA, 1.000 SV%, 11 SA), and the third star Kenton Helgesen (3 Hits, 5 Shots)

Game 14 - NYR 2 LA 3
Dominated the whole game by LA, up until the end. Breakdown on defense and New York scored with 30 seconds left, and then pulled their goalie to score once again to make it a 3-2 game. However, time was too low, and the Kings prevailed. Anze Kopitar (8) opened scoring in the first just 2 minutes in (assists to D Brown and Doughty). Then the power play struck, scoring 2 goals in the second, the first one going to Yakupov (7) (assists to Kopitar and Stafford) and then Baptiste (2) putting in a rebound (assists to Helgesen and Carnevale). Game 15 - NJD 4 LA 2
Well this game was pretty much all New Jersey. I came back with a late surge when Alex Carnevale (4) scored with 4 minutes to go (assists to Doughty and Baptiste). Then with just 50 secs left, Yakupov (8) scored off a rebound thanks to assist from both Murray and Kopitar. However, with 30 seconds left and the net empty, Kovalchuk was able to score and ice the game. First star Jeff Carter (1 G, 2 A), Zach Parise (1 G, 1 A), and your third star Ilya Kovalchuk (1 G).
Game 16 - WSH 3 LA 1
Washington started scoring early with 2 power play goals by Ovechkin and Semin. Then with 5 minutes remaining in the first, LA went on a 5 on 3 power play. Ryan Murray (3) was able to capitalize on a blast from the point to make it 2-1 (assists to Stafford and Helgesen). There were chances the rest of the game, but I was unable to capitalize on any of them. Ovechkin scored on the empty net with 10 seconds remaining. First star Alex Ovechkin (2 G), second star Alexander Semin (1 G) and your third star Michal Neuvirth (1.01 GAA, .941 SV%, 17 SA).
Game 17 - LA 2 PHX 1
David Backes opened up the scoring for Phoenix, however that wasn't enough. Early in the second Kopitar (9) sniped his first goal of the game with assists to Yakupov and Doughty. Then late in the 3rd, Kopitar (10) was able to pull off almost the exact same shot top shelf and give the Kings a 2-1 lead for the win (assists to D Brown and Murray). Thanks, go on ahead if you want =p. I don't know if I should keep doing a game summary after every game or not, may be a waste of time... but oh well. I guess it gives a me a little break in between lol
I posted it in the other forum pages, I didn't feel like updating this haha. But we finished first in the West, I simulated after playing 23 games. We played Nashville in the first round, but right before the first round, Quick and Doughty both were injured. Then during the first against Nashville, Kopitar was injured. So my top 3 players. I ended up falling 3-2 in the series ( I played all of this one). Game 6 came and it went into 5 overtimes, and I scored on a powerplay with 5.5 seconds left. I won game 7 then. I simulated most of the other playoffs and then in the finals we played Toronto and won in 6 games. It was a repeat year after winning the cup last year. My AHL team also made it to the finals but they were swept in 4 games.
Also, right when I started simming after 23 games, Erik Karlsson was put on waivers for some reason, so I had to pick him up. Due to cap space and such, I decided to just trade him away. I traded him for Jurco on Detroit who is 88 overall sniper, Gentile a 73 overall A- B- B- defensemen and a first and second. During the off season, I released Dustin Brown, the captain. He was D- potential and I just didn't have the cap space. I also signed an 84 overall offensive defensemen. He has A- B- C potential, and I will use him for his offensive capabilities. I got rid of Austin Smith as my backup. Par Nickulas is now 85 overall and still has high potential, so he should be just as good as Smith next year. Also Quick is my main goalie and has a long contract, so I will be keeping him as starter. He is 99 overall too. Kobasew the 6'4" 244 lb PWF is now 80 overall. He only went up 1 overall for some reason, so I hope he grows more this season. He has A- B- C potential I think.Defense is mostly the same except for the guy I signed, so I can put him in or Pokka. My offense is now Yakupov, Kopitar and Baptiste (85 overall) on the first line. Second line is Jurco, Carnevale and Ohlund (80 overall PLY with good potential but is injured atm so Kobasew is replacing him. Third and fourth lines are mostly the same except those are guys I sometimes swap in and out. My team is pretty solid though.
